Well it's April 15 in Korea. Samsung's blown it again. First Magician 4.6 shows up without any firmware upgrade, then Samsung yanks the link. They are really hurting themselves and any hope for TLC nand reputation. I for one won't touch any Samsung product or ANY
TLC based ssd. Have a nice day.....

? another identical thread ...

if you are hate samsung, sell me cheap. I will take it your 840 evo.. or even 850 evo.

new development:

Only problem to be released later this month.... Again S@#$ Samsung. they keep playing
these games!!!

You need to ask yourself this... Would other companies even bother to update firmware on two year old SSDs for a problem that took a year to show up?

Samsung's big mistake here is telling people when the fix would be ready. That just sets expectations and gives people a reason to be upset.

They announced that the problem exists and they're working on a fix. The fix is coming soon, why the anger? I have a Vertex 2 from OCZ that causes cold boot failure if you use it as a boot drive. Did OCZ ever fix that? No, I had to work around it by rebooting my PC after it hang every single time I cold booted that PC.

I currently have a Samsung 840 Pro and it has not caused me any issues, yes the 840 EVO has some problems that need to be fixed but it's an isolated incident. Samsung's other drives are fine and the 840 EVO's issues are less severe than a lot of the previous SSD problems, like say momentarily freezing up your PC.

There are more important battles to be fought, even when it comes to PC hardware.

Dang, you just made me realize how old my computer is. Thanks a lot! :p

Oh really more important than your data integrity and access time? I supposed you could run a defective Cpu, Gpu, or Memory we certainly would not gripe to Nvida, Intel, or AMD .Oh wait a minute! I remember a math error on the original Pentium chip or how about the 1.2 Pentium III that Hardocp reported to Intel that would not compile properly. Those are two incidents that I remember. Of all the PC battles to lose an ssd or even HDD are the worst ones. Information is far more important. You can't replace lost data be it games or critical financial facts. ...

1) No data loss has been associated with the Samsung SSD issues.
2) And no point in time has there even been a GPU with a driver that worked correctly in every game and every app. Depending on how you determine a product is defective, GPUs are always defective for someone.
3) Any data can be lost at any time on any system. Having proper backups is far more important than thinking one drive is less failure prone than another.

Problems like this will help Micron.

The Micron/Intel collaboration for 3D nand will help.

I fully agree on the backups I backup to another machine and external Hdd.
Yes I know that SO FAR no one has lost any thing on Samsung Evos.
Does not mean it can't or won't happen. Oh well we are the mercy of Samsung...
Have nice day.....

You blame Samsung for something that hasn't happened? What the actual...?
Sure, Samsung released firmware that had a bug (which is effectively impossible to detect in Q&A due to the time it takes for it to show up). Then, when they postpone the fix to make sure it's as perfect as they can make it, you hate on them some more.

What is it that you want them to do?

To be completely honest, your rant comes off as borderline crazy.

They are still selling 840 in shops.

Well one thing I never understood was why would I want to buy inferior TLC when drives using them weren't cheaper than other ones done on 16nm MLC.

Those TLCs drives benchmarked better than the competition in reviewer test suites which I'm sure led people to believe they'd be getting better noticeable performance in common consumer tasks.

They were also cheaper than the Pro drives, which also benched very well in those test suites, which I'm sure also had some residual halo effect for Samsungs brand.

The 840 EVO still has one of the best price/GB ratios around.

Samsung drives seem to are very resilient against sudden power loss. I had to replace a MX100 in a specific laptop that often had filesystem corruption or bluescreens after suspend-to-disk. Since I replaced the drive by an 840 EVO no problems anymore.
