Grand Theft Auto V

Dear sweet baby Jesus

Thank you for this game, and Rockstar, and 48" 4K displays.

Glad to see the FUD was false

WORTH THE DELAYS.

Yeah, I cannot get this game to stop stuttering... even with everything on lowest at 1080p I get stutters. Maybe something to do with 144hz and Gsync?

SMAA injectors don't work, I'm using an AMD card so no TXAA.
So I'm limited to MSAA or FXAA. Incredibly disappointing.

It's running good on my i7 5930K + 980 at 1080p, locked 60 most of the time, I might turn down MSAA a bit (4x now). Everything else is maxed. A far better port than IV was, last time I tried that it still wouldn't run at a locked 60.

Not like I expected it to play smooth on my ancient notebook, but it matches most of the older gen or exceeds their specs, but I can't even launch the game. It seems like I'm not the only one with a mobile processor who can't launch the game either, reports are that it will launch under Intel Graphics, but refuses under certain mobile NV platforms so if you can disable them. I'm force verifying my game files right now and if that doesn't work I'm going to at least launch the game under Intel Graphics to have it run once. That is the best I can do until I get home to my sanctum and my glorious TITAN.

970 @ 1440p here, game is running amazingly. All the naysayers that swore it would just be the GTA4 launch all over again can suck a fat one.

4gb 960ssc is having no trouble at 1080. The game seems well optimized. Glad I had 240gb free on the boot SSD.

...you really aren't reading all the BSOD reports out there. GTAV Launcher has a huge memory leak, the game won't recognize some mobile GPU, but will launch on Intel Integrated (at a major hit of performance), some people are getting the infinite download bug where the download is getting larger and larger, etc. Those are a few major bugs I've found trying to figure out why it won't launch on my notebook.

There were a few times I had to ALT+TAB and manually exit the launcher after starting the game.
It's a hog.

Enjoying the game so far. I have found out that the shadow and draw distance detail options under the advanced tab affects my fps the most. Everything on very high or maxed out, TXAA/FXAA on with MSAA at 4x.

Not use to the driving at the moment.

Graphics wise I'm waiting for ENB because my modded GTA IV looks better in some areas while GTA V looks overall sharper.

Wow...it looks pretty stunning. At first I thought vsync was broken, but it seems like windowed borderless is the issue. Putting it in fullscreen took me from 24fps to a solid 59. The internal vsync seems locked at 59, but using the one in the Nvidia panel fixed it and I'm now getting 60 all of the time.
It occasionally bogs down a little, but it doesn't seem to actually change the FPS...or at least my readings in Afterburner.
Graphically it looks pretty damned amazing. Almost too fluid. The joys of GTA animating well even at 30fps. In 60, it's freaky.
Lovin' it. It's already 100x better than GTA4 was at launch already. I'd imagine fixing the borderless windowed would fix any of my gripes.

The driving IMO is a great compromise between old GTA arcade-style physics and GTA IV's more realistic physics. Driving is a joy in this game. Not too light, not too heavy.

Oh yea. This game runs very well. It's a welcome change from the previous one. GG Rockstar. I'm already having a blast.

First person mode is freakin amazing holy shit!!

Yeah. Runs.So. Smoooooooove. Playing at 1440p everything ultra/very high/Fxaa/No MSAA (not using any AA of any kind) Advanced graphics/ all maxed getting over 60fps at all times in Los Santos.

Some 4k maxed everything, resized:

Pro-tip: The "grass" setting murders your framerate in the countryside.

If you haven't driven outside of Los Santos yet AND you're done messing with your graphics options, I suggest you drive around the wilderness a bit to make sure your fps won't cut in half later in the game.

Running like butter on a Titan X @ 1600P on a 30" Dell. Now to get that 4K 40" Philips...

For anyone with a laptop as well, runs excellent on majority Very High/Some Ultra (no MSAA) at 1080P on a 970M. Haven't tried 4K yet though, hah.

4K is actually doable on a single 980. I just turned the first few details from very high and ultra down to high. Didn't touch anything past the 3rd slider. Under the advanced graphics, I turned those down to half.
That still gives me 50-54 FPS all of the time...which is still fantastic looking. The catch is that I'm not sure it's better looking enough to justify the occasional hiccup when 1080p/60 looks so nice.
On my combo of hardware, the game is pretty fantastic. Fix the windowed performance (which is stuttery...and the exact opposite of every other game I own) and the 59hz thing and I'm happy.

What's the fps on your laptop?

15 minutes remaining on my download, commencing Sam Adams Crystal Pale Ale consumption now.

Very eager to see how it will perform on my 2 GB 770. The game, not the ale.

Games running like butter at 60fps on my gtx670 2gb even though vram usage shows 2.4gb in the video settings, only noticed a hiccup or two around the downtown area with the tall buildings. Gonna swap in the hd7970 tomorrow and see how it runs with 3gb and red teams new driver.

No problems so far with the game, much better launch than GTAIV. Only planned on playing it an hour tonight and ended up playing 4 hours. Playing at 1440p haven't had any issues with everything completely maxed. Wish DSR worked with G-Sync+SLI though.

At 1080P and most of the settings at Very High, I honestly feel like it's 50+ at all times. It's just buttery smooth. I didn't have a counter up so I could not tell you the exact numbers I was getting, but driving around and doing a mission or two felt fantastic (and I get pretty anal about framerate drops into the 30s and 40s). I couldn't notice any drops at all even with a bunch of crap happening. 970M is an excellent card for anyone looking to grab a gaming laptop. I'd get a 980M if you can get one cheap though, it'll only be better.

Anybody have performance figures from 4k and dual 970 setup? I'm particularly looking for everything ultra with no AA. Let me know what you got, thanks!

Decided to get it just now, and will let it download and install so I can play it tomorrow.
you guys that are playing, you using a controller or KB&M?

keyboard and mouse

its harder for driving, but using the mouse as dynamic viewcontrol is solid, and aiming from a vehicle is pure butter...aiming with a mouse is so much better in general. im dropping headshots like its going out of style.

runs amazing on my 980

Apparently, if you start the prologue, quit without finishing it and then launch the benchmarking tool, you get all kinds of strange behavior.

At least on my end I do.

I think Steams servers are getting hammered right now, was at 13MB/s and now it's under 1MB/s.
Was able to get 6GB before the slowdown.
My internet is running fine too,

Remaining time jumps between 1 and 2 days. :(

I'm glad someone else noticed that. I thought the game was broken and started wondering what all the delays were for.:D

I was getting between 50-60fps the whole time, with a mix of High/Very high @ 1080p on my laptop (770m). Damn impressed so far at how well it played.

Damn, pretty impressed by how it runs on the laptop. I'm really considering picking a laptop up.

I may need to work out of town sometimes and I want to get a laptop. I wanted a Gigabyte P35x at first but they don't really sell them readily here in Canada. So I was thinking of the ASUS G751jy or the step up to an MSI GT80 Titan... could be overkill though... that laptop looks like a sexy beast to me (some people think it looks ugly though :p)

I have a 360 controller sitting on my lap for the driving parts and use k+m for Shooting which almost feels like Im cheating compared to my first playthru on console, kind of wish they tweaked the ai to compensate for mouse users.

Approved!

Enjoy the game. No doubt it's Rockstar's biggest PC launch ever. Hopefully it opens their eyes to the viability of the platform and we get the next Red Dead game too. Because I will mail them a bag of dog excrement if it is console only again.

If you buy this on Steam tonight do you still get the pre-order bonus since it isn't officially released until tomorrow? Never mind, the answer is yes, until midnight PDT
