Hey Y'all.... So my Magni 2 / Modi 2 Uber stack finally arrived. I plugged in the optical cable from the Modi 2 to my Sound Blaster Z, the RCA cables to both units. Setting SPDIF as default in playback devices on windows 8.1. Sound isn't loud at all with windows sound turned all the way up and volume control on magni 2 half way. I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong! Please help!! Also do these units tend to get warm?

Check the volume mixer, sometimes applications individually get turned down separate of the master volume control.

Check the back of your Magni, do you have the Gain Switch? It may be set incorrectly for your gear. I flipped it to get more control via the Volume knob.

have you tried using the USB connection rather than the Optical and or different analog (rca) cable from Modi to Magni? or different optical cable?

No I haven't. Waiting on different RCA's to come in... I just got this Optical Cable from Amazon. It works. Could it still be bad?

i would try it using USB instead of the optical, I guess I would also try different RCA cables probably a good idea to try to rule as much out as possible.

Is there a specific usb cable i need to use?? Also could it be the power being fed to the amp from the power supply is weak? I have the two power supplies connected to a whatever extension until i get another surge protector.

did the Modi 2 Uber not come with a cable?? if not what you need is a USB Type B cable.. generally like what printers use..

like this cable (for example...) if you are like me... you have 100 of these cables somehow that have collected around your home?

well i tried using the dac with a usb cable... and volume is the same as optical.

Do you have a laptop or friends computer or something you could test the new gear on?

do you have another Audio source with optical? You wouldn't have volume problems with optical, it's an it works or it doesn't work affair. The only other thing causing low volume output would be the source. Can you try using your onboard sound (if you have one?).

Any old USB cable would work.

Loud relative to what? What SPL levels are you trying to achieve? What happens if you set the gain to hi and turn the knob to the 3/4 mark or so? Or higher? Is there a material change in volume?

Are there different audio modes on the SB-Z software? If there is an option of bit-matched playback, enable that. Try changing the various SPDIF options.

I've changed everything in the SB-Z Software... as well as SPDIF options. I already spoke to Nick at Schiit... And he's asking me to change the headphone adapter to see if that is the cause of the issue. He is confident that the adapter is the problem... We'll see.

Can you post a pic of your set up right now? I just want to see your connections.

Just the front and back of the Schiit stack with the headphones connected.

Why don't you contact schiit? They are super fast about replying to email questions. I got myself a Modi 2 Uber/Magni 2 stack and volumeis not an issue at all.

sounds like the amp could be bad tbh. I am using them both although they're the first generation.

Well just to update yall... I got a replacement amp from Schiit.... and I'm still having this same issue.... So I'm sending Adorama my Sennheiser HD600's for a brand new replacement hoping this is the problem.
