Volvo Selling Highly Reflective "Life Paint" For Bicyclist

lol

When I lived in Cali, I had a next door neighbor that went batshit crazy when I spayed weed and feed on my lawn. Never mind that a driveway separated the buildings. She even wore a doctor's mask for a week after.

The punchline? She was a psychologist. Imagine this woman "helping" others with their problems.

Monsanto GMO advocate said that you can drink weed killer and it won't hurt you.

Would be interested in trying this out on some camping gear...

That's the impression I got from the video.

Same, they ride their bikes wherever they want, crossing in front of cars, changing multiple lanes.

If you drove a car like that, you wouldn't live long.

Those same cyclist being asshats and not obeying traffic laws are the same ass hats driving cars doing the same thing... but currently there are more drivers on the roads not obeying traffic laws than cyclist. On a side note get use to it , because until the PD does their job and cracks down on both it's not going to stop... :p

Oh I'm used to it I live and work in a college town I've been in two accidents involving cyclist. Each one the cyclist fault from running red lights. I hate all idiots on the road pedestrian, motorist, and cyclist alike.

It's annoying that it only lasts a week, if this was permanent or at least lasted a year or two I'd get some in. I don't ride my bike at night but the improved visibility wouldn't hurt. I have noticed a fair number of people riding bikes at night without any lights (which isn't even legal here) and without helmets (which is just stupid). It seems like there is a good segment of the population who lack even the slightest forethought.

I've always been very careful because a friend of mine suffered serious brain damage when he was hit by a van riding his bike down the street. But saying that, there are a lot of cyclists out there who just do whatever the hell they want.

One of my friends is a hardcore bicyclist who has done the track from southern California to AZ(Yuma?) and back. I've seen him yell at other cyclists who have no concern for their safety or other motorists safety so its certainly not everyone who rides.

I used to do it and its hard from the cyclists perspective to as careful as some want them to be but at the same time you see idiots all over the road who think they can do whatever they want just because they are riding a bike.

In the end 2 tons of steel > 200lbs of flesh, some of these guys need to leave their ego at the door.

I can see a bunch of neat uses for this stuff if someone can figure out a way to make it permanent. That said, count me on the "hate cyclist" train. As a general rule they are rude inconsiderate assholes who seem to think the rules don't apply to them. One of the many things I don't miss about constantly being in the city. I have nothing but contempt and mockery for any cyclist who gets hurt while disobeying traffic laws or not taking reasonable measures to protect themselves. That said, Drivers of cars should absolutely be held accountable to the same standards of them paying the fuck attention. That virtual street runs both ways.

I'm afraid of cyclists. I nearly ran over one at college, too. I was turning to the left, so I look both left and right. This was at night, so there were a few blind areas due to spotty lamplight coverage... but overall I could see there weren't any cars around, and at the very least there wasn't anything in front of me that I could see. Wait a bit. Start turning (looking left to make sure I don't mess it up and all), look back forward because something caught the corner of my eye... there's this girl with a bicycle literally in the middle of the road (like on the yellow lines dividing traffic directions), directly in front of me. Walking perpendicular to the way I was turning (wasn't on the bike). This was as I was literally in the middle of the turn. I'm not sure if I barely touched her while jamming the brakes or if she tried to fall down to absorb the impact, or what. Either way, she ended up totally fine and nothing happened to me in the way of charges or anything. I got out and made sure she was okay.

But that experience scared the crap out of me. I had no way of seeing her, she was walking forward on yellow lines directly in front of a car that was going to turn to the left, as if I didn't exist and she was totally walking where she was supposed to be. There was a crosswalk somewhat nearby, but she definitely wasn't on it. The worst part is that this all still would have been my fault. If I didn't have good peripheral vision and fast reflexes, she would have died or been seriously injured. Forget the charges I would have faced.

Now fast forward to commutes, I honestly wish cyclists would just stay off the road. I mean literally. I think there should be a law against bicyclers using roads meant for cars. If there is a sidewalk available or a bicycle lane specifically... that's fine. But just on the road? No, they're not normal traffic and it's plenty obvious that they don't believe that they're normal traffic from the way they act. Not to mention their riding is unsteady so you can't really be sure how close is too close. A total nightmare on one lane roads too as a single bicycler could block off a whole road and cause everyone to be at a standstill as long as there's oncoming traffic because everyone is afraid to get too close. I'm just of the opinion that not only are they a pain to deal with in general, but they're an accident waiting to happen. Make one misstep around them, and manslaughter charges. At least cars have airbags and whatnot. A bicycle: you touch them, they may die. If the government is really serious about allowing bicyclers to use roads, give them dedicated lanes. They're not motor traffic.

Another thing I also love to laugh at when I look at it are signs that say "give them like 3 feet" (or something like that). Yeah okay, on this extremely thin one lane road where I have maybe 2 feet of leeway, I'll try to also give the bicycler 3 feet from where his arm ends. That'll work. Totally.

I feel for ya ,It doesn't matter day or night you have to be hyper aware when cycling any more...I run a rear light day or night when cycling... I have had a few close calls riding at night in the bike lane and non bike lan streets , riding above the speed or at speed limit ... that's even with a Dinotte 400R RED Taillight strapped on my bikes with their DiNotte XML-3 head lamp. Some drivers just do not pay attention to the road when they are driving...

And those "drivers" should have their driving privileges revoked for life.

That's actually a law in California, so you can actually get an expensive ticket for passing too close.

I feel for ya. I cycle and I've had the same problem in SF a couple hits and a few misses with red light runners on bikes while cycling myself. Shit I've had adults cycle the wrong way down cycling lanes into oncoming car and bike traffic just because they are tooo lazy to pedal around the block to get where they have to go :| ... Most of it seems to be this sad trend of self entitlement , laziness and just the lack of manners.
People forget that driving and cycling on public roads and public accessible areas is a privilege, not a right .

Yep I agree , I just wish sucky drivers would just admit to sucking at it and just not drive or bike at all ... hell I suck at driving in highly populated areas and once I moved to California I decided to give up on driving so 99% of the time I either hoof it , cycle ,take the bus or train. It's one less head ache for me the people around me and I get to save on 10mm rounds :p .

After watching the video I can see why so many damn cyclists are injured or killed in the UK they ride their damned bikes anywhere randomly on the roads at night like idiots that think they are invincible.

Wake up you idiots and ride responsibly, I ride but not like an idiot, riders and drivers can be the scum of the earth if they don't think....

/flame on

Hold on a minute. Most of the riders shown were in the "correct" or "normal" lane, but there are a few scenes in transition places. If the lanes are splitting the road up into different paths, you have no choice but to change lanes, just as in the US, if you want to turn left you have to get into the left hand lane, or if the right hand lane is peeling off, you need to get into the middle lane to keep going straight. Details matter, as does compassion, bro.

I'm just jealous that this stuff didn't exist a few years ago when I maticulously cut up reflective tape into little strips to place all over my bike, even in curved surfaces, like the wheels. The one thing I've got on this is that mine is both red and white, and looks pretty sweet under headlights in motion.

Natural selection at its finest.

So if a wise person got ran over and killed by an idiot 'just' practicing natural selection, what would that be? I feel like your statement is equivalent to saying 'people die' and yet you're expecting a pat on the back for saying it.

I take a shit, everyone clap for me.

I think spraying ones license plate with this might lesson any photo tickets and or government license plate tracking system. So yes, I like this stuff. I'll take two cans please.

Really cool stuff. If they can make a small can explode from a money deposit bag when the bag is forced opened by a thief or spray onto criminal's clothing as they exit a convenient store after robbing the clerk. I can think of a million uses for this stuff to identify individuals by... better yet, make it illuminate in different colors? :D

Yo, this is amazing, I'm surprised it took this long to come up with something like this.
