BLOODBORNE - Gamescom gameplay trailer

- Farm early on. Farm. Farm. Throw all of your echoes into Vit and stamina until you get them to 25/25 then start throwing points into strength or skill. learn the basics for combat, I am sure there are YouTube videos.

- Early on there is some Hunter armor in the sewer that is probably the best attire in the game and it makes everything much easier -- especially the first boss fight.

- Ring the bell and bring someone in for help if you need it.

- UPGRADE your weapons. Can't stress this enough.

- Any enemy can be parried by shooting it during 'windup', even bosses.

- Learn the bosses attack patterns instead of just YOLOing it and it will make them much easier.

- Lock on with R3 and Dodge,dodge,dodge.

- Take it slow and enjoy the amazing atmosphere and combat -- this type of combat can only be found in Souls games, it is the main attraction of BB.

A little caveat here though, locking on can be a hinderance at times. Like with the first boss, best to just roll around constantly slashing his legs.

i agree, locking on generally makes it harder vs giant monsters

the Cleric Beast is the hardest 1st boss fight in any of the Souls games (I haven't played Demon's Souls)...normally they ease you into fights by teaching you mechanics you will need later on...the Cleric Beast does that but he's a tough dude to start with

If you have enough stamina, say 25, using forward dash while locked on is much faster and uses less stamina than roll. It works wonderfully on the paarl beast fight especially.

spam forward dash while locked on and win (for big bosses). :D

paarl isn't tall enough to block your camera angle so i guess lock on still works better

Thanks to you and the others for the info. After about an hour I got the hang of the combat and am not dying because of the mobs. I can easily take out the packs of 4-5 that are roaming around at the beginning. I'd usually die by something unexpected and would be so frustrated that I lost 4000-6000 blood bux. I didn't buy any gear or farm or upgrade my weapons. I'll try farming enough to buy all the entry level gear and upgrade my axe. This is a really n00b question but how do I upgrade my stats?

you upgrade (level up) by talking to the Doll in the main town (hunters dream).

if you're just starting out, this is what i recommend for the WHOLE game:

SHORTCUTS SHORTCUTS SHORTCUTS!

you NEED them. it makes it so that you run 20seconds to a boss, without losing health, VS doing the whole cricle of monsters, taking forever, and losing health vials.

So I leveled up to 84 using the dupe glitch and the game is actually playable now.

Beat the werewolf boss without issue. But I don't see how its humanly possible to beat him without cheating like I did (or wasting your life away farming stats). His werewolf form was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. How the hell do you dodge it when it's unleashing a fury of attacks every second? And how are you supposed to know when to attack? It's just too fast.

Game is certainly cool but I don't see how it's getting such rave reviews considering the niche market that it's catered towards. For the casual gamer this is absolutely unplayable.

Honestly some of you people should not be playing this game because you suck at it. You have to dupe to make the game playable? LOL

This game isn't as hard as some of you portray.

the beginning of Bloodborne is tough but it gets much easier once you level up your skills and weapons a bit...much more forgiving then Dark Souls or Dark Souls 2 DLC...the game also seems much more linear and the lack of tons of weapons and gear makes this much more accessible then any of the other Souls game...once you master the fast combat/dodge/parry the game is not that difficult

yea bloodborne is actually quiet easy compared to dark souls except for depth 4 ~ 5 of chalice dungeons

The werewolf boss? The 2nd boss in the game? I beat him at level 18 by just dodging, slashing and then throwing a bunch of molotovs when he goes into beast mode. It was pretty easy dude :| And this coming from someone who sucked miserably at DS2.

Anyone know of a good Blood stone Chunk farming area? I wanna level up some weapons and I am having a hard time finding these damn chunks. I am using the 'eye' rune and have leveled my arcane to discovery at 200 and still nothing. I was doing the blue-eyed werewolves in the upper cathedral area with no luck-- and this is supposed to be a good farm spot from what I have read.

I'm up to the 3rd boss now- Blood-Starved beast- and once again just like with Father Gascoigne I was thinking the fight was easy...but then he transformed and the fight became hard...Bloodborne bosses are weird in that they look somewhat easy to start but once they transform they become much more difficult...I've also lost a lot of souls (echoes) in the game because the game doesn't show you that a boss fight is coming until after you enter the room

Level 55, Forbidden Forest. Game rocks so far.

Finally dealt with Vicar Amelia. Like traditional Souls bosses, sometimes it comes down to the luck of them not doing certain things...like healing in this case. That opened up a lot of new things, too. I'm heading back to the Old part of town with the machine-gun hunter, which I just killed before bed.

Granted, I'm not very trigger happy, but the gun makes certain enemies much easier. Like the hunters, the 2nd boss, and those huge guys with the axes. The firearms don't really work the way I figured (distance) but are more like a parry attack. The repeater is decent for distance if needed, though. Kind of like a poor-man's molotov.

I'm still enjoying the hunter's axe, especially with the extension on it. Love that charge attack. I have it up to +6 now and will probably ride it out as long as I can.

All the message spam on the ground didn't give it away? :p

I can't even beat Gascoigne, I am trying to parry in the final phase and getting smoked. My brain just doesn't process the super small timing window on when to hit the button for parries to land visceral attacked. The whole thing feels like NG+ even though I've cleared previous Souls games. I got a few more attempts in me and this is going to sit on the shelf for awhile.

I think the difficulty is up and down. I rarely die on the actual levels, but I've never been great at fighting the Souls bosses. There was a period where I probably went a couple hours without dying but then went on a death spree going back to Vicar Amelia repeatedly. In typical Souls fashion, you usually die the most when you get sick of traversing the same area over and over and over.
With Bloodborne, the bosses are at least a bit more of a surprise since you don't actually have the fog wall until you die. I find myself getting nervous whenever there are no enemies around and I'm heading into a new'ish area.

Yeah... people using the duping glitch and still dying.. smh. I beat the first two bosses before hitting level 15... it wasn't overly hard and no cheating required. I'd only do the duping glitch after I beat the game to do things for fun... on a separate character.

I made a new character and beat father gascoigne at level 10... he wasn't overly hard you just need to "git gud" lol :p

Maybe I got lucky, but I killed Father Gasciogne on my second try. I probably would have done it on my first, although I got stuck in a corner and couldn't roll away or move.
Essentially I just back away and then shoot him with the blunderbuss when he charges. From there, heavy axe shot or two. If I get hit in the process - roll away like mad and heal. Back up and repeat.
When he went into his second form I don't know if I did anything differently, I just remember having to run away and heal a lot. The f+heavy strike smash with the Axe tends to stun enemies a little, does good damage, and gives you a lot of range. I use it a lot. Don't be afraid to use the environment to hide behind and heal, too. It at least gives you a little time to breathe.

I've always done well with the smaller/humanoid bosses, but I full-on suck against the huge monsters. I always dodge too soon when they're gearing up to strike. Smaller enemies don't do that.

I just can't get the time to breathe. I am sure this comes down to me doing it wrong, however the frustration is setting in. I am at like 11.5 hours played. On some attempts I can get the boss to like 30% and only use one Blood Vial before getting smoked trying to land a parry. On other attempts I've gone through five Blood Vials before 50%, I just get my face smashed in the whole time and I just can’t recover. I've tried using the Music Box too.

I didn't realize there was a duping glitch however I will give that a go before giving up on the game :(

Ohhh man they need to fix the farming glitch NOW. That defeats the entire point of the game.

People who need to use the soul farming glitch are doing yourselves a disservice....I have only played this game at my friends house for two hours but I can pretty much guarantee that there's no part (especially boss) of the game that's "unfair". You just have to adapt and find new ways to fight.

I don't think the game is impossible, but it is certainly pushing my frustration limit right now. I have memorized the level layout and enemy location for literally everything up to Gascoigne at this point, it isn't fun for me to keep playing if I can't get past the second boss. I have over 14 hours played between three characters, I can get back to Gascoigne on a new character in like 40 minutes at this point.

I don't know what the duping glitch is (I haven't bothered) but I actually endorse people to use it.
The Souls games aren't for everyone and yet it's honestly hard to find a review that will admit to this. The marketing campaigns, too. Anything that allows more people to enjoy the game without smashing their controllers or feeling like reviewers tricked them is fine by me. It's a niche game that was pushed as a blockbuster.

It really trivializes the game, quite a bit. It'll make the game easier than "easy mode" on most games out today. That's how game breaking it is.

lol not gonna lie, i did the dupe cheat, lvl 165 now
Beat the forgotten forest before i did it.
I'm just a tad over powered .
Call me a casual, idgaf

I don't mind if it's game breaking. It really only breaks the game for the person playing and I honestly think 1/2 of the people that get this game will probably never even kill the first boss normally.
If this allows them to play the game and enjoy exploring the world - I'm okay with that.

Those easy mode games get completed though :p Plus it looks like you can dial in how much you want to cheat with the dupe...

Shame on all of you for using the dupe cheat. These games are not for everyone...and while I want more people to play them...not at the expense of turning the game into something it's NOT meant to be...These games are meant to change your approach to gaming, change your style and your thinking. I'm now playing Demon Souls for the first time and am 6 or so bosses in and have only died once. Not because I'm a skilled gamer but because I have a good 500 hours of souls playing under my belt and I now know how to approach the game and I've learned how to adapt. That's the point...sheesh. You are not supposed to just breeze through it!

to each their own I guess.

It's a shame when given the opportunity to turn on a supposed cheat...so many jump for it.

Eh, I think my approach is fine. I can beat Dark Souls without dying* and have probably a bit under 200 hours into that. How many times am I supposed to die in Bloodborne before I "get it" and change my approach? I don't even know what I should change, sometimes I am nearly perfect until the final phase and other time I get absolutely destroyed while take the same approach, same weapons. I don't even know if doing well or doing poorly is the anomaly at this point. Shouldn't mastering almost everything in Dark Souls make me a pro at Bloodborne? And if not a pro, I should be at least a tiny bit decent at the game, right?

I didn't have this bad of an issue with Demon's Souls or Dark Souls, and overall I played much more methodically because of the shields. I am getting the to point where I am already ready to stop playing Bloodborne, so it is either cheat it up so I can stop being pissed or just trade the game in for something else. And this could be due to the second boss being small and fast, and apparently I only play well against huge bosses that telegraph their attacked a lot. Heck I bought Bloodborne for a friend and they have almost ten hours into it and are stuck at the first boss

I'll never cheat in a game ever again....

I used a Cheat in Borderlands 2 I used a lot of cheats in that game just wasn't fun after the over leveling.....

I see cheats in COD AW and they just suck ass wrecks the game for everyone....

I did use Macros In UO but only to save time and they were really not game breaking.

I cheated in Demons souls with the item dupe came in pretty handy =) I'll never over level in this game....

I beat Vicar Amelia and Blood Starved Beast. I'm not sure where to go next.

Any tips?

I haven't killed the Blood Starved Beast yet, but I can give you some places to go after Vicar Amelia. When exiting the area where you killed Vicar - take a right and follow the path through a shit ton of guys with rifles and dogs. Take that area slowly. That will eventually take you to Hemwick Lane.
You can also go back to the door where the guy wanted a password to open up another new area. I've done a little exploring in both and clearly at least one of them is the next step :p Enemies aren't too crazy in either spot, so you'll probably be fine in either.

In your case..I can't criticize nor do I have any business commenting on the difficulty of Bloodborne based on a few hours of play. I was mainly directing my comment towards folks who DO NOT have a lot of hours in souls games and have already conceded.
