The much touted The Legend of Zelda is not going to be able to keep the promise of a release in 2015. In what is becoming an all too familiar mantra of we would rather get it right before we release it from gaming companies, Nintendo announced the delay earlier this week.

Very classy way to make the announcement. I wish more companies did it in such a respectful manner. Made me feel important to him.

Well... damn. I was really expecting this game. But if it means they can make it bigger and better then so be it. I just hope that it doesn't become too big and ambitious. Having too much shit to do can be overwhelming. Dragon Age Inquisition is a good example of this though thank god 90% of it is just optional reserved for completionists that love grinding.

GOOD.

The trend of games that need to meet release dates needs to stop, so the focus can be placed on the quality of the game instead.

FUCK YEAH!

Game publishers are finally starting to see that we only give a shit how the final product works. We don't want a zero day patch to hastily attempt a fix. We want the experience we paid good money for and were promised. If only every publisher could learn this.

You even watch the video? The delay of Legend of Zelda seems to be against the Wii U. They already started focusing on the NX console system.

No, because it's some random jackass playing a game while he spouts speculation.

Is the WiiU a dead platform? Yes..this we can agree on. It never had a chance to begin with. However the speculation that Zelda is going to be delayed for the new system is just stupid. It isn't even remotely feasible for that to happen. That is a huge lack of understanding of how game development works to even think that is going to happen.

Their argument is based entirely on the lack of third party support, the NX announcement, and the Zelda delay.

I can guarantee that people who bought the Wii (like myself) or the Wii U did so primarily due to the first party Nintendo games.

I do however find it odd that the push of this Zelda game into 2016 is strangely lining up with their potential NX console release, whatever it may be. It is almost like they are developing it for the NX with a gimped out Wii U version so as not to burn the existing Wii U base.

Cmon now folks, I'm probably the most notorious Wii U "troll" on these forums (apparently) and this news doesn't do much for me.

Zelda usually gets delayed and they never really showed much as it is. Not showing it at E3 is odd but whatever most everyone should have known it wade through going to be out this year.

Wouldn't have had to be alive to be dead? Like you said it didn't have a chance to begin with. Basically it was still born and people just dressed it up like a normal living baby and pretended it was alive and well.

I agree, they won't be pushing it back to the NX. It will be on the Wii U, the NX doesn't even have any release date in site, we won't know more about it till next year. So My guess is Holiday 2016 if not 2017 at best. If they wait that long they are really dead, they need as much out the door now to get people to stay with the Wii U and be around for the NX.

Guys why do you keep saying it's dead? Maybe because we are older gamers, my kids are 4 and 7 and they mostly play wii u. I own more games for that then we do the Xbox one and ps4. I'm sad it's not coming out but we all want it to be done right.

The truth is that:
Every (non handheld) Zelda title has been delayed since OoT
Every Zelda title since OoT has been downgraded as compared to the "first trailer" teasing/announcing the title
Every Zelda title is a rehash often with identical puzzles as the last

I just can't be excited for them anymore. Nintendo is perpetually a kids or early teen developer/console maker. They don't care to progress, they're comfortable where they are at, playing it safe, milking their franchises.

We say it is dead due to numbers.

The Wii sold a lot of systems, but not a lot of games. The Wii U has not sold very well. It isn't selling a lot of 3rd party games, in fact many developers have scrapped even making games for the system. If you own all 3 systems and own more games on it than you do the other 2 I can say that you are probably one of the few in the position. Nintendo isn't in the position they were before and are struggling to keep up with the changing tide.

It's obviously being scrapped for the new Nintendo system.

Once zelda went 3d, they have sucked quire badly.

As mentioned, because of sale numbers. It just never sold well. Age has little to do with it really. I have two kids as well 4 and 8 and the Wii hasn't been touched in over a year while the PS3 gets daily use. That said, their gaming platform of choice is clearly their DS. :D

T'was a grande thing ye did Nintendo. You let the folks know that the Zelda of all Zeldas is going to be a bit delayed, but only because its going to be a rock solid release and ye need more time to really bring out the special magic of it. For that, I applaud you, and will continue to support any company that will focus on quality instead of meeting the deadline. I see so many online supporters of these types of companies, but the numbers just don't reflect it, and its a sad thing really. The company thats putting out quality after quality release is not getting the backing of most console owners and their pocketbooks, while the major two consoles are having a tough time with the quality aspect of their games, but can easily pry the coins off the hands of their owners. Ye just gotta wonder how such a thing can happen, but its happening. A reality that is scary for the future of gaming, and it doesn't look like its going to change.

Have you ever actually looked at the list of games that was made for the Wii?

There are quite a few that I am not sure most parents would want their kids playing. There are a few that creeped me out and also a few that would not be age appropriate for younger players.

I only ever buy Nintendo consoles for the first-party exclusives. I really couldn't care less about third-party support.

Wasn't Twilight Princess on the Gamecube pushed back because of the Wii version? Wouldn't surprise me if the same thing is going on with the new one.

this guy is on the level of kotaku with his clickbaiting crap.

It's par for the course with Assbringer. You would think that he'd change his tune once in awhile so that people would actually give a crap what he thinks.

Of course Nintendo is working on a new console. It's not like that is some big revelation.

Nothing can ever be as bad as Zelda II for NES :D

Screw you that game was awesome! Except for couple of really obscure problems which are almost impossible to figure out without guide. Meaning Nintendo Power or similar magazine back then. :D

I disagree. Skyward Sword was quite refreshingly new feeling. Too bad the motion controls kill it. Would have been my favourite Zelda otherwise.

THIS is why I told my wife the other day "maybe we should sell our Wii U". This bothers me as well.
