LG 34UM94-P, $749 @ NE

Helluva price this one. However, not sure I care for the stand.

Yeah, I'm tempted, but I think the absolute cratering of prices on these ultra-wides signals the ramp up in production of cheaper and comparable 4K displays. Also, even with a 970 I'd be wary about it being able to drive a panel like this all on its lonesome.

I'm honestly still quite happy at 1200p - I can game in 1050p stacked windows with all the bells and whistles, and my 970 never hiccups.

Seeing as people were jumping for this @ $849 when it was Massdropped a while back:

To be fair, those people have had the monitor for 7 months now. $849 was a steal back when these were $1100-$1200 and sold out everywhere...and this is a good price now. :)

A single 970 will drive one of these just fine in most scenarios. I say most because I'm sure there will be some cutting-edge game at some point that, when played with ultra settings, will mean a less than fluid experience. But I'm currently playing Alien: Isolation among others and I haven't found anything that makes my Gigabyte G1 970 struggle.

980 can't play BF4 or Hardline in Ultra. FPS stays under 60 on my system so it has a stuttering feel.

Good to know, but that's no reason not to buy one IMO. If someone is the type of gamer who insists on running Ultra settings at a solid 60+fps AND is willing to shell out money for a monitor like this, they're not likely to be running a single GPU. If you want 60fps in demanding games with Ultra settings, might have to go SLI or wait until the 390X comes out. :D

Yes, I was thinking the same thing.

Yeah, this was very close to an impulse buy. Then I started thinking and realized that I will ultimately want two 32" 4k displays in the end. Probably going to consider the Samsung U32D970Q and then one of the G-sync 4K IPS (or maybe even TN) displays for gaming.

The only issue there is the desk space to fit them both :)

My Titan X drives my 34" very well. I don't even have SLI setup yet. I DSR slightly, ultra, in BF4, from around 5k in Borderlands 2 and Minecraft looks amazing. The immersion is so much better with these things.

My Titan X is 38% faster than my 980 was OC vs. OC and I don't even have it underwater yet. Then the 980 was ~18% faster than the 970. So 1.18*1.38, the Titan X is about 63% faster than a 970.... I could see you having to turn down a few settings driving a 3440x1440 with a 970 but it should still look awesome. Also you don't need as much AA.

For the 390x you'll be waiting a while. A really long time (2016) for the 8GB. I don't think Gen II HBM will be ready until the end of 2015, then it actually has to be integrated into production.

Yeah a 970 for 2560x1440 wasn't really great on a 970. Next day grabbed a 980 and still wasnt happy maxing out the 144 frame rate till I grabbed another 980. Bf4 would dip down to 50-60 in explosions. Now 110 is the lowest I see but mostly pegged at 144fps.

Your runing even higher res on that monitor. Maybe one 980 Overclocked at 1500 since you only need to hold 60fps.

my mid-2013 11" MBA powers this well for standard desktop usage when i need to impromptu-work-from-home; though they do look silly sitting next to each other.

The res doesn't need *that* much to drive; though my PC Gaming has been light recently I haven't found anything my aging desktop in signature has had issues with.
