I have this processor and a Zotac GTX 970 8gb ram and an ssd with lots of space left.

I unistalled the newest version of flash player b/c 4k video on youtube would run my processor almost 100% and it would skip.

After uninstalling flash play I went to watch 4k videos so maybe it didn't get all the way uninstalled but they don't seem to run the processor as much and don't skip as much. They actually run smooth for the most part but the processor run at 80 and 90 percent sometimes and does start to skip sometimes.

I've had a macbook pro retina before and it watches 4k youtube on Safari with no problems and that processor isn't as good as this one and it only had intel graphcis.

Maybe it's the OS but seems like my computer wouldn't have an issue playing 4k video like this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Enable hardware acceleration in the browser and done..

I did that within google chrome and it still makes the processor go up to 80 and 90 percent
then I get the skipping.

Thanks

well its weird i've played in both browsers.. in google chrome percentage usage vary from 25% to 35%.. in internet explorer 25%-30%. in both cases the playback is choppy.

Interesting, Ill have to check at home, my work PC wont play it if I threaten it.

Tried on mine just to test...did get some skipping before enabling hardware acceleration but smooth as butter with it turned on...using chrome as always....task manager shows about 20% cpu utilization

not bad for such an old cpu:)
Internet Explorer actually used a bit less cpu.....but might not have been quite as smooth or it was just hard to tell

all in all it seemed fine though with explorer being a bit more power efficient

I just played this in IE @ 4k on a G3258 that is OC'd to 4.2 currently. Turning off hardware acceleration my CPU usage went up to 50-80% during the playback.

Why the heck would you turn off hardware acceleration?

BTW, I also tried the video on my secondary monitor which is hooked up the integrated video on my 3770k, I only tried it on IE there and it was just as smooth as on my main monitor. CPU utilization was about 1% higher.

Maybe a driver issue?

Because I wanted to see if I could get it to be choppy without hardware acceleration.

There was, but not much and on a pretty weak cpu too.

I'm trying out IE on Windows 10 Technical Preview and it seems to be working pretty well.

Chrome is still having it's issues tho.

what kind of issues? and is hardware acceleration enabled? it should be by default tho

just tried to watch this,no choppiness, but I did get anywhere from 25% to 56% cpu utilization on this 4790k @4.3 that is with hardware acceleration enabled, also seemed to increase system ram usage by around 1GB,whatever that is worth.

In Firefox, I see 1% FF and 5% Flash, and the video is a bit jerky and not quite smooth.

In IE (Win8.1), I see 1% totally IE, and the video is fairly smooth. Interesting.

I tried the html5 player in FF but then 720p was the max res offered from YouTube.

Wow, I've just seen a comparison of 4K vs 1080p and it's really revealing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55SWtb1Hm7w

I guess you do have a reason to watch 4K if you can. :) (Of course, I watched that on my HP 25xi which is really a 1080p monitor but I could still tell the difference.) By the way, I was using an Intel i5-4570 and Geforce GT 640.

Bah I saw no different on my 1024x768 lcd at 240p. ;) Just drive down to the local electronics store and watch the 4K TV demos, a lot of detail. Good luck getting that same detail level from the cable company or typical online streaming though. The HD cable I saw had sharp edges but massive smoothing everywhere else (basically selective Gaussian blur.) 4K must look incredible with the proper game titles.

Project Spartan seems a bit more efficient over Internet explorer....or at least just as good
