Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

No single player no buy from me. I'm more than happy when a developer helps me save money. To be fair I don't care if a game is multi only, I'm not one of those people who believe a game has to cater to everyone. I can respect a game that decides to do one or the other and do it right.

If this is MP only then I don't really see how it's any different from Counter-Strike. Tiny levels with more destruction physics, I guess...

I'm for sure going to buy this. And they said they will work hard on the mp.
Can't wait to play this, the game look so nice.

Doesn't look too bad to me. I like how they incorporated at least some form of a tactical plan for MP. The 1minute defense/scout was a good mechanic of CS, iirc. The boarding up windows real quick and deployable shields are obviously done because no-one wants to actually sit there for 20minutes building defenses .. You have to look at it as a condensed time frame as in a realistic scenario, they may do these barricades but they'd take time.

Reviving could be iffy. There are some parts where clearly guys are killed. Other parts (where you see revive) guys are just down, but the team number never changes (ie: 3v2), so there's obviously a kill mechanic to it.

Ammo seems limited. Maps will most likely be small, the 5v5 mechanic is there to appeal to the ADD generation since there's no respawns.

Should be called SWAT.

Ummm no this game shouldn't be called SWAT because the SWAT games are far superior to this dumbed down version. I miss the original RB6 even the original Xboxs ones were better then there latest releases....

This is way closer to SWAT than Rainbow Six. I've played both series and it's definitely close to being SWAT if that series was made today with modern mechanics. Like it or not, that's what sales, and this would be close to what a SWAT game would be.

And BTW, SWAT doesn't necessarily mean the Sierra series. I meant it as SWAT, because that's what it is. You're literally playing as a SWAT team. R6 was counter-terrorism, so unless they have some more exotic maps, this doesn't fit the name.

Heck, call it Flashpoint and tie it into the TV show. It fits that better.

That is true. I am just glad SWAT died with 4, as it is better off dead than being dragged in the mud. :p But I do agree, if we were to see a SWAT 5 (aside from the cancelled one), this is what it would look like.

Mainly MP. They scraped Patriots because the industry is shifting away from SP games. Easier to throw in grinding and microtransactions and make everything an MMO I guess. They said there will still be an SP but it is not the focus; my guess is a short SP campaign (4 or so hours) or simply playing with bots.

This is very disappointing.

I still see a heckuva a good looking multiplayer game potentially here, though, and I like the idea of all efforts being concentrated on making either the best MP game that you can OR the best SP game that you can vs trying to a hodge podge on both and then both sides suffer for it.

I for one have not and will not move away from a single player preference and emphasis regardless of what "the industry" does.

If there comes a point the industry leaves me behind? Then so be it.

I'm with you. Ironically though, the original R6 games were known for the great SP and co-op. And the team vs team was rather popular to.

I fear that "SP style" MP games will replace traditional campaigns/story modes in the coming years. Borderlands, Destiny and Titanfall are some examples of developers attempting to do this.

I actually don't fully understand how this game will work if it's just PvP MP. Why wouldn't the terrorists just shoot the hostage immediately? What's stopping them from using her as a human shield and just camping the whole time? I can see massive griefing occurring in a game like this if humans are on the terrorist side.

That's what everyone in the stream was saying. This is a game where both sides have to actually care about winning. What if cops have a griefer who just wants to kill the hostage? What if someone blows up the door to the room and does 99% damage to the hostage, but one stray bullet from me kills her? Is it my fault or the guy who did 99% damage with the C4?

This is a strictly MLG game because in every other setting, I see nothing but griefing going on.

Classic internet at its best right here.

This game looks awesome.. Versus MP looks really fun with friends.

True but those games still allow for solo play, too.

Ideally that's what I'd like to see here: "All of the above."

This game looks sweet. :)

Alpha sign-ups if anyone is interested - http://rainbow6.ubi.com/siege/en-us/

I'm below minimum system requirements -
Minimum Rainbow Six Siege Closed Alpha PC Requirements:

OS: Windows 7, 8, 8.1, x64
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-8120 Eight-Core
CPU Speed: 3.3 GHz (Recommended), 2.6 GHz (Minimum)
RAM: 8 GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 / R9 280 X
VRAM: 2 GB

I haven't seen anything I've liked yet the leaked videos so far. Certainly doesn't look like they are trying to return to the old rainbow six in anyway. Ammo is pooled even, no individual magazines i think i saw someone reload 20 times. How lame.

It looks like a rip off of CS GO with some Payday 2 elements. Which is an entirely different genre from the originals. The HUD system seems to be torn right out of a social-style game; player avatars are constantly hovering on screen like a modern Valve game. Instant barricades that you can pull out of your ass and set up in a second, character outlines like in L4D, ect. Despite the marketing talk, this really does look like a generic shooter.

I agree.

I remember something vaguely about Rainbow Six Vegas 1 or 2 was that there was a mode I think in terrorist hunt where you could not respawn after being killed on a higher difficulty.

I am a little discouraged at the fact the Siege seems to be making this a game-wide theme that you can't respawn... but it might not be bad. I am looking forward to it, but hopefully there will be a option to allow respawns... I also hope there is a single player mode.

Damn shame they cancelled Rainbow Six Patriots altogether. Looked awesome.

This looks neat. If the gunplay is good it could go up against CSGO. Having said that, the gunplay doesn't look like it is on that level.

Ironically, the thing that probably keeps GO afloat is nostalgia. Once I played it for a bit I never loaded up the game again. I do wonder if Siege can stand on its own without it. This looks like a copy with higher end graphics. I am sure millions will buy it in droves, but do we really need another CS/CoD clone? :p I suppose the market speaks though and my assumption is this will be an excellent seller.

As for GO, I wasn't a fan of the extra fluff and new game modes (which all suck IMO). It was just too cluttered with extra crap and console influence to continue playing. Had it been more stream lined I might have played it some more.

This game is looking good, I am going to be watching it closely. Like many of you, I really hope it has a single-player mode. I'd love to see something that played Rainbow Six of old, especially with co-op. There are no words for how badly I miss Swat 4 and Raven Shield. I'd love to see a throwback to them.

That said, I don't think i'd automatically dismiss it if it turned out to me MP only. I wouldn't pay $60 for it though. I'd value it the same I would GS:GO or Payday... fine for ~$20-$30, but that's all. If it had a single player, I'd very likely be all in for $60 if the game was well received.

Those weren't real R6 games, they were bastardized spin-offs. The ones produced by Red Storm never had respawns, matches were tense and quick and the system worked great for ladder play. This predates CS. Which was more of an evolution on what RSE started. Ubisoft bought RedStorm and decided to go all cover-system, hollywood-shoot'em-up with the series (Ghost Recon as well). This game is an attempt to partially take it back to the roots to differeniate in a crowded genre.

What worries me is that it looks like we have another Watch_Dogs on our hands - the alpha reviews are stating the graphics are no-where near what we saw at e3. So it looks like Ubisoft did the same thing, pitched a beefed up canned segment to draw attention.

I bet a zillion dollars this doesn't have dedicated servers hah

Ubisoft and MP don't mix

Wallhack for the mass?

Wtf is that?

This game is garbage. I won't buy it.

You do realize the game is in an early alpha state, right? They have plenty of time to tweak the balance of the game before it releases.

By all means, your entitled to your opinion, and if the game doesn't look like it will appeal to you, that's fine. But if your writing the game off because of one specific gadget, you might want to sit tight and see what gets changed by the time the game comes out.

The graphics in the original E3 reveal were hardly impressive anyways. Crysis 3 looked better. The current graphics look okay, but certainly have a cartoonish feel to it. From the colors to the character models (check the gas mask & female wearing nothing but a cap so you can see her pony tail).

Rogue Spear /Urban Ops were the last enjoyable R6 games, and I don't expect this game to change that.

The minimum requirements seem more like the recommended based on those lousy graphics.

Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but it seemed like the game looked WAY better graphically in earlier videos.

The more they show, the worse it looks. Even graphically, it looks very subpar. But the gameplay is where the main issues are. This really is a CoD clone mixed with some CS GO elements. Moving, shooting & weapon mechanics are very arcadey and downright terrible much like CoD. Even the art direction is taking a very cartoonish look. Game looks about 60-70% CoD, with CS GO inspired HUD, and Payday 2 like unlocks/abilities. I suppose if you are a CoD fan this game will certainly be appealing and there are plenty of people who buy into that series yearly.

This looks terrible...I was hoping for an RvS type of game not a crappy CoD/BF clone
