ASUS is downgrading me to a GTX 780 on a GTX 780Ti RMA

Sweet card!! I see you finally got it. What's your impression so far compared to 780ti?

It's pretty sick so far, did a cookie cutter OC I found online, and ran a benchmark using Kombuster. It went from 69 fps stock to 105 fps. Can't wait to try out some resolution scaling on BF4

Card is up and running now

Congratulations! It looks great! I know you'll be happy with it.

Very nice.

So it only took 3+ months of back and forth to finally get the problem resolved.....

It's good that you got the appropriate upgrade.

Nice looking system.:D

Reading these Asus support threads reminds me of the nightmare I had with gateway support. I specifically went with non asus hardware my previous build.

It is not too bad, it looked new in the box but it wasn't sealed. It also has the plastic wrapper on the back plate.

Coil wine should all but completely disappear in time and if setting v sync on in global settings should help as well. Took a long time but looks like you got fixed up nicely in the end. These days it be pretty rare to get brand new replacements so enjoy your new card.:)

I don't remember my ASUS cards or motherboards ever being sealed, so it might still be as "new" as they come (unless you saw actual signs of use).

Jesus.

These dumbasses can't even find it in their collective conscience to send you a new card after all this bullshit.

Really sad.

It's not the end of the world, but it just emphasizes the overall attitude.

Remind me to never buy an Asus GPU. But meh for nVidia there are better options, likewise for AMD, so I'm not missing out much.

I figured it out, they sent me a card that someone returned due to coil whine.

Hahah, not sure if you're serious about this one or not, but even if you are I think you finally came out on top! Who cares about a little bit of coil whine anyways. I'm surprised they sent you a DC2 980, and not a reference one or something like that. Good job dude for pressing them to make it right.

lol please tell us which vendors send out brand new replacement items cause even the best vendors of know of when dealing with rmas do not send out brand new units. Working refurbs are best case scenario unless your purchase is still inside a return window where it was purchased. Lets not make a happy ending into something its not

OP, glad to see you got a [good] card back and score on the upgrade. You deserve the [H] equivalent of a purple heart for putting up with all that horse manure from them. :p

To those blasting Asus for not sending a brand new card: seriously? I have never seen a company send a brand new item back on a RMA. Would be ludicrous to do so. The first time someone reports they got a new product back, *everyone* and their mama will B&M about wanting to get back a new one as well.

Congratulations! Had a similar problem (not quite as egregious) with zotac and persisting is really the only course. I imagine you'll be quite happy (though maybe not with the new titan x coming out :p)

Man, this epic (fail of a) thread makes me reconsider leaving EVGA's loving arms. Their service is exemplary. Sheesh. Congratulations.

I'm not trying to claim entitlement or anything, but read the whole thread.

this guy put up with a shit-ton of problems. I mean really.....three separate RMA parts and not to mention the time and energy to return each and every part, having to reach out to other areas of ASUS CS just to get the right thing done.

Honestly, if it had not been for the suggestion of another forum member, the OP would most likely still be dealing with a broke-ass part.

This kind of grind is deserving of a little special attention.
For a business to fail this badly time and time again, and then finally offer up some resolution, only to send out another used part is just not right on a number of levels.

Yes, in the literal sense of returns, no one expects to get a new-in-box replacement, unless it is inside the 30 day window......but this is not your typical case, by any stretch.

ASUS failed to man up, period.

and yes......I have received NIB RMA replacements from the likes of Corsair and MSI.

I do believe the card sent to you was new but opened for testing prior to being shipped out? Either way congrats on the the new card and it really makes me happy to see Asus make it right. (Even after 3 months' although honestly shouldn't have taken that long.) I personally have had my fair share of Asus MB's and GPU's in the past and currently own a Z87i-Deluxe in my HTPC but only have had one bad experience years back with a Asus P6X58D Premium board where a defective board was shipped out as a replacement.

However, that being said I did a few months back opt for a pair of MSI 970's over a pair of Asus 970's but that was based solely on preference at the time.

Generally, retail NIB gpus are tested at the factory or their final stop (OEMs) then packaged and shipped with security stickers or shrink wrap in place.

If the sticker was cut or opened before arrival to the OP it isn't new.

I see it from the corporate/beancounter/logical standpoint. You all seem to see it from the customer/freeloader/entitled youth standpoint. That's fine and all, but wait until you are responsible for this kind of fiasco on the corp end, and you'll see what happens.

since when is customer=freeloader/entitled youth?

Lets put it this way beancounter/corporate slave, you want my business? you better damn well stand behind your products and your service. IF it took me that long to get my replacement card, going through not 1, but 3 faulty replacements, time + money wasted on shipping back to Asus, I would be expecting 2 980s!

In my experience with RMA's (unless getting new) company's normally send you a replacement item in generic "white box" packaging, not original packaging with items/accessories.

To be honest at this point IMO new or used, item OP received is what he was promised and I'm sure he'll be more then happy overall.

I've received RMAs in a number of ways. Retail packages and generic white boxes.
Most of the time, an "open box" return is sent out in retail packages (and may/may not include accessories), although not always.

I agree, no matter what, the deal is done.
It's just wrong to take so long.

Companies.....the plural of company.
Company's.....belonging to a company(singular), possessive.:D

My 6970 DCII RMA with Asus went smoothly, I received a brand new 6970 DCII

Glad to see the happy ending. It sucks that they jerked you around for so long (pun not intended), but coming out with a GTX 980 Strix in the end is a net gain for the overall experience IMO. Kudos to Asus after all the BS.
