NVIDIA Unveils The Titan X At GDC 2015

Honestly if you've held out this long, I'd just wait until either the cut down, much cheaper GM200 part ("980 Ti") or the 390X drops and take it from there.

that or take advantage of the impending '980 For Sale' threads that will blow up the forums.

I guess part of what scares me is that the 980s went on sale around 2:30 am EST when they came out. I'm probably going to upgrade to SLI Titan X's, as I'm assuming the first batch will be very limited and sell out. (I can't remember the last high end video card that came out which didn't sell out within a matter of a couple hours).

So what is the over under on the price of this thing?

$1299.00 or less?

I was guessing $1399 but with the 390x rumors, maybe NVIDIA prices it at $999:p

Will most likely only see premium Nvidia partners with cards at launch, EVGA and ASUS.
MSI and Palit are questionable, though I'm leaning towards probably not.

Availability is going to depend on what revision they are mass producing, the samples we have seen were A1, if they are launching with A1, availability should be pretty good. If they are launching A2, they only had about 2 months to build inventory which then depends on how well the fully enabled chip is yielding.

I don't think we will see too much movement on pricing, Nvidia has their pricing models that resellers seem to follow.

There was another manifest screenshot indicating 6GHz vram on TPU today. =/

Damn thing better not disappoint. I ditched my 980 today. :) If it's over 1k it better be impressive!

is this confirmed ?

Source:confused:

nah, that's not confirmed. that's the price that's been thrown around though by all these leaks though.. and it makes sense to me, with the lack of DP and a Ti version right around the corner sitting at $650-700 (or whatever). know for sure tomorrow..

the MSRP is $999. after etailer gouging probably get one for $1100-1150 tomorrow.

Price increases generally come after it has been sold out.
It should be no more than $50 from the major e-tailers.

If customers get desperate and buy from the small guys, the price can be a bit high over MSRP.

The real question is, will Nvidia cut down the 980Ti?
If so, no buy for me and I'll go for a Titan X.

Well, I think we can learn lessons from the first Titan. The 980Ti will more than likely be a Titan-X with 6GB of Ram and will probably perform equally well in games. And it wouldn't surprise me if it performs better, especially if the 390 AMD exceeds expectations.

I would wait and see what June brings.

For me anyway, this is a year for going cheaper on a GPU and not buying a halo card. With Pascal coming next year, which is really a double die shrink since we skipped 20nm, and directx12 been released later this year. It's looking like next year will be a great year for graphics cards. So there is no way in hell I am paying $999 for a card right now.

Oh A question, does anyone know if the Titan-X has full DP functionality like original titan? Heard rumours it doesn't, guess we will find out later.

Its doesnt have fully function DP, they confirmed it.

Since it's Maxwell and the way it scales, people more intelligent than me have worked out roughly how it will perform. They reckon between 30% and 50% better than the 980. My guess, based on everything leaked so far, would be slightly less than that. I think it will be between 30% and 40% better.

Oh? Well that makes it less impressive than the original Titan. The Full DP was a good draw for some people who wanted a workstation card but couldn't afford a good one and could live without the Nvidia support.

Is 12GB of ram the only thing this has going for it? Yes, I know there will be a performance increase over the 980, but is it worth $400-$500?

I think Nvidia realized they made a mistake of giving buyers too much value for the older Titans, where you can game and do pro work. This time around they are pushing the M6000.

I guess. Basically people are getting hyped up about a card with 12GB of VRAM? Maybe I am getting old or something but so what? This Titan-x is boring, no new tech, No DP. The highlight is 12GB of VRAM. The GPU wont have enough grunt to power any game to fill that amount of vram. Yet people see to be chomping at the bit to buy one. Some people have already sold their old cards and are waiting for this to be released without knowing anything about it, only all the rumours.

I guess Kudos to Nvidia for the hype they can build up over their products.

We know Nvidia are going to release something around the time AMD releases the 390. It's going to come in between the price of the 980 and the Titan-X possibly even push the 980 price down a little.

People have used up the 6GB on the vanilla titans in tri-SLI+.

Considering these are supposed to be what, 60-70% better performing than the original a Titan, if you have tri-SLI shouldn't be too hard to pass 6GB.

My guess is the Titan X will sell-out within a few minutes after release.

There are many who will grab one - or more - to upgrade from what they have now just for the larger frame buffer. There are others who will use the Titan X for other than just gaming such as CAD/CAM applications, renderings and such. Then, there are the power gamers who want the fastest, most technological advanced video card on the planet to provide them with the best experience possible. These guys are the ones who will be hitting F5 on various etailors so as to get the card(s) on the way to them as soon as possible.

Any idea if these will sell out right away?

lol 60-70% better than the 980? Come on, where are you pulling those figures from? Every site I have read puts it at between 30 and 50%.

There is no way it could be 50% faster as it only has 50% more resources and is clocked about 10% lower than the 980.

And I think he was simply referring to how much faster the Titan X will be over the original Titan.

Yup vs the vanilla Titan not the 980. I'll clarify my post. I was responding to a post that said the card can't fill it but the original Titans have in SLI. I would have concerns about bandwidth at some point depending on your target FPS.

But I think you can pretty easily get over 6GB of VRAM with a few of these in SLI.

Ah yeah, maybe that's what he was talking about and I misread it.

haha.. *sigh*

i'll have 6 980s doing nothing hopefully by the end of the week.

Well depending on what the prices of the 980Ti prices are, if they go way over my budget, be sure to hit me up with a PM once you put em up for sale. ;)

One thing about all prices is simple inflation. Our money is worth half or less what it was 15, 20, 30 years ago. Gas costs more than double as well, etc.

Having been in this a long time, very good sweet spot video cards used to be $200. It's not so crazy that they're now $400. And frankly, even $1000 isn't that crazy. $1000 is approaching disposable income for many. Money is simply worth less.

Anyways was just looking at a spec sheet and I didn't realize Titan X has just a few more cuda cores than the last Nvidia flagship (3072 vs 2880)? Rather disappointing but to be expected. Nvidia maxed out 28nm much faster than AMD. Nvidia dies are so big they hit the reticule limit and literally cant get bigger on 28nm. That's why AMD will now surpass them with R9 390X (well, that and the game changer HBM). AMD has more room as well, they could get even faster, except that I'm sure another round of GPU's wont hit on 28nm.

But I will say one of the worst things Nvidia has been doing to consumers in recent times is stiffing them on RAM. Such as my brother who paid $650 for a geforce 780 a while back that came with a whopping 3GB Vram (he's not a video card guru just a gamer). He's screwed if he gets a 4k monitor, it's a $650 paperweight. So at least the Titan X doesn't do that, if anything it goes in the opposite direction.

For those people its not about the VRAM, but the fact that its rumored to be 40-50% faster than a 980. My option is that it wont be quicker than 30% over a 980. I just do not see Nvidia selling these at $999 over a $550 980 that have more than 30% boost. At that rate a 980 SLI would be the way to go - yes I know its 2 cards.

I guess well see the outcome soon.

I think the majority of buyers in the Titan bracket, will buy the Titan X regardless of its feature set (or lack thereof).

I really don't think "natural" inflation can account for the ballooning of GPU prices.

Consider both the 480 and 580, which were full GF100 and GF110 chips respectively, went for $499 at launch in 2010. According to the CPI inflation calculator $10 in 2010 has $10.72 worth of purchasing power in 2015, so that's 7.2% inflation.

The full GK110 780 Ti went for $699 at launch, which is a whooping 40% increase over the 480 and 580, much more than the mere 7.2% inflation since 2010.

Only 12 more hours of rampant speculation! Yay! (Wow [H] server is 6 minutes slow!)

Cool story.
