so far one for the P2424H. Low glow a good or a bad thing?

The 2414 is prob the best for under £200, but the problems with the 2414 are : slightly lower contrast ratio (10-25%), 16:9 which looks a lot smaller than a 16:10 24.1", and a matte coating (although is not as bad as older matte coatings) which has worse image quality but less reflections compared to semi glossy or glossy. For the money though it is about as good as you will get if you can live with the things I just listed, I had a 23.5" 16:9 (dell is 23.8 so about the same) and I did not like how wide and short it looked compared to my 16:10 20.1" which was almost as tall as the 23.5" 16:9. If I decide to get a 24" screen I will deffo be getting a 16:10 as you get a lot more space and overall looks a lot bigger, much better for webpages etc and looks bigger for games as well. "low glow" on the 2414 is a good thing, IPS glow is bad, but I think it might be a "panel lottery" with the "low glow" as most reviews of the 2414 it looks similar to other screens for IPS glow.

Is the is p2414h or the u2414h your talking about?

I went to look at an HP Pavilion 27xi last night at the local Best Buy. I'm in the market for a 27 IPS 1080p and I really do think that monitor is #1 on my list tight now. I initially wanted a 1440p Korean panel like the Yamakasi or the Qnix, but my vision has deteriorated so much in the past 3 years that my current 23" TN 1080p panel is set at 1440x900 just so I can read text onscreen - there is just no point at all in me moving up to 1440p !!

And of course Best Buy did not have the 27" in stock at ANY Best Buy - its an online order only on that panel. I was able to compare the 25" HP on display to other panels, and it just blows them away.

Think I'm going to go for the Dell U2414H. It looks good has all the features I need for now and isn't too expensive. I would of gone with the P2414h the other has more features just no DVI :(. Am I wrong to go for this?

Am I wrong to go for this?

Going for a Dell monitor is very rarely the wrong move. They offer up some amazing panels, and the prices are well within reason. It's snobby to say it, but I wouldn't go for less than a 27" if it were me. But, that is simply because I'm a lot older than you are (46) and my eyes just can't see small text anymore (Windows COA stickers are just miserable to read).:(

Displays are like cases - everyone has a different idea of what is attractive, what's practical, what fits the bill, and what offers the best bang for the buck at time of purchase. I loved that Pavilion I looked at last night only because Best Buy's LCD selection was pitiful - they had one 27" panel available, a matte screen that looked completely washed out sitting aside of the glossy screen Pavilion 25xi, so I'd bet my heart would skip a beat if I saw the Qnix 2710 or a Catleap 2B in person.

Don't stress too much on your decision - buy what your heart leads you to, just expect to see a better panel for cheaper within 1 month of your purchase. That's just the way it goes when buying PC hardware ;)

The HP Xi & BW series monitors use LED PWM Dimming (Side Effects) while the glossy Dell S2x145H monitors do not.

The glossy S2415H is better, but the HP 23 Envy is essentially the same as the S2415H, but is much cheaper from Amazon.

Just to get this clear. The Dell S2415 is better than the Dell U2414H?

It is glossy but possibly a slightly worse panel (white glow) and also not many connections, decide if you want glossy or matte. I read it has an AG coating under the glossy coating so don't know how good it is.

It's 100% glossy, not sure where you are getting your information from. There's no guarantee that the P2414H will have a 'low glow' panel, and it uses a non-grain free matte coating.

I too was looking for a good IPS monitor and after browsing reddit I stumbled across a site that had some pretty good resources. It helped me choose the best IPS monitor, try also to look in the comments there for other users feedback: Best Gaming Monitors 2015

Hey guys been meaning to put this up to let you guy know how i got on with my new monitor. I decided to go with the Dell U2415. I am so glad i did. I think it is amazing. I dont get alot of sun coming into my room so the fact is has a ridiculously glossy screen it is almost like a mirror. the quality is amazing.

I was worried about the refresh rate and yes i see screen tearing but the colour that i get out weigh this for me.

the design is amazing too

Just wanted to thank you all for the help.
