Facebook Posts Land US Contractor In Emirates Jail

Humans are born with rights, but the governments of the world we're born into take them away or limit them in some artificial manner.

Interestingly, that's actually the exact opposite of reality.

What rights do you think you have vs a lion? Vs a gang out in the plains? Vs even just one other person who happens to be between you and your gun, pointing one at you?

There are absolutely no "inherent rights" that you get by "being born". None at all! Not the right to congregate, to speak, not even the right to live a few minutes more.

ALL rights that we recognize are the result of humans getting together, forming groups and societies, and agreeing that 'yes, certain things are going to be assumed to be basic rights', which can only be enforced by the power of the people acting as a collective. Which is another word for 'governments', in case you were wondering.

When has saying something bad about your employer on a Facebook EVER lead to good things happening? He does it in the US, he's out of a job, does it against someplace over there, faces jail time.

Personally, if I was told to report the police station, I would go to the nearest US embassy instead. No way doing something in another country should land you in jail in a different country. I mean what if the country (say England) has an age of consent of 16, everyone 18 and over who had sex with a 16 year old landing in the US should be arrested for statutory rape charges? That's basically what this is.

Pretty crazy and unfortunate. I was surprised to read that the actual act had happened in the states yet this whole thing still went down. I feel for the guy. Definitely a shitty situation to be in.

You just can't go around saying whatever you want online anymore without consequences. I've heard of certain employers actually asking for potential employees Facebook accounts and passwords. On a more personal note I know of two people who had to resign from my place of work after the company found things that they had said about the company and other employees on their Facebook accounts. Right or wrong, this is the way it is now.

Having sex with 16 year old girls sounds more fun than mouthing off on Facebook if I had to pick one.

There are no rights in this world, we all need to learn the difference between rights and privileges.

Hi All

QFT. disagree? Talk to a Japanese American that was alive during WWII. They were put into concentration camps for the duration. German Americans weren't. Neither were Italian Americans. As has been stated earlier, we are born with rights but governments take them away at a moments notice when it suits their needs.

As another person stated above, we weren't born with any rights. Governments are a necessary evil to allow us to have these "rights". Of course they're not always fair and are inherently corrupt, but so are people.

Hi All

Disagree with we aren't born with rights. We are. Governments decide when we are able to exercise them. Period.

No, we are most certainly born with rights. It is up to you if you and the people around you if you decide to stand up for those rights when oppressed. Some do, some don't.
