I know you can't "charge" for Paypal fees but Paypal has been offering the option for awhile to where the buyer can cover the fee.

Is it allowed to ask the buyer to cover the fee in my thread? Covering the fee is handled through Paypals checkout.

Interesting.

Another option is to use Google Wallet - no fees for seller. No fees period unless the buyer uses a credit card to fund the purchase.

I've never used Google Wallet before. Might have to look into it. I still think most people use only Paypal on the FS/FT forums.

Just used it today. Sold some camera equipment. No fees but there is a weird $1800 transaction limit.

I've been selling a lot of equipment over the last week or two. I've asked for google wallet but only 1 buyer would use it. The rest are all paypal.

Darn, I find this thread too late. Just sold a processor and did not think to ask for google wallet. I got hit with paypal charges instead.....

If you plan to or do end up using Google Wallet make sure you get their debit card (takes 2-3 weeks). You can withdraw from ATM's or use the card anywhere that a credit card is accepted. GW has also recently done 5% cash back promo's for using their services - hopefully more soon.

Important update. I was confused. A sender can only cover the fee if it is a personal payment which gives the buyer no protection and that is against the rules. The wording on the Paypal site confused me. Apologies for any confusion! Sellers are still responsible for the fees and nothing has changed!

There are no fees unless you use a credit card to fund the payment. If sending via gift from a bank account or linked debit card neither party gets hit with fees.

I am just going to stick with USPS money order from now, don't want to deal with Paypal unless I am using eBay. I'll definitely check out Google Wallet though, thanks.

which is a very bad idea if you want any sort of protection at all.......not to mention against the TOS of PayPal if your paying for goods....

so remember,if you send someone a gift payment and things go south, you are completely on your own....
