Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I was waiting to see the game get a bit more "feature complete" before I started playing it.

Funny, I have the same feeling about Star Citizen. And apparently so do a lot of people playing Elite Dangerous; they put S.C. on the backburner until a meaningful addition like PU.

Just a reminder the Orion mining ship goes on sale tomorrow start ripping those hundreds off your toilet paper roll.

Haven't been following the changes to selling/trading packages for a while; not sure if there were any changes. If someone can answer these I would appreciate it:

1) Thinking of selling my LTI Digital Scout package. I can still gift this entire package, correct?

2) If I were to buy a new package, would I have the option of trading it / cross chassis upgrading if I wanted to?

3) When it comes to combat, how does the Mustang Alpha compare to the Aurora LN? I know both are low tier and not dedicated fighters, but just wondering if they preform very similar. Similar cargo capacity?

4) Any other catches/disadvantageous of new packages VS old ones? I know I'll have to rebuy all of the alpha passes and won't get LTI, but anything else?

5) Anyone know if they charge sales tax in CA still?

Think I got someone willing to get my LTI Digital Scout package for roughly the same price it would take to get an Avenger or Origin 325 package. I just don't find the Aurora to be fun... I don't really care about LTI, so essentially swapping an Aurora for a dedicated fighter seems appealing to me.

1) As long as you see the gift option in your hangar you can gift it, if you used store credit for any portion of the purchase you cant gift it.

2) Yes you can CCU to anything that is flyable in Arena commander, if something you want to ccu to is not there, just wait until it is arena commander ready and it will get a ccu option.

3) I cant answer this as i do not own either of them, i have the omega and delta mustang and no aurora's

4) Nothing should really be different other than the lack of alpha and lti.

5) Yes they still charge sales tax in California

also i am not sure what the current value of lti packages are, i know the heralds likely affected the price a little but at one time you could get $100 easy for an aurora lti package.

also the sneak peak from todays around the verse was the FPS alpha map, its looking pretty good i like the animation for the gravity gen. room.

The Mustang Alpha only has "dumb" rockets (ie they don't target anything). I don't know if that will change in the long run or not. However the Mustang can outfit an aim-able turret on the nose. It's kind of a crap shoot considering so much can change in the long run. The nice thing is once you get rid of LTI you can melt our package every 24 hours and try different ships :)

Is anything posted on the orion yet? I can't get to RSI at work and am dying to get some info on it.

i think sales usually start around 5 or 6pm eastern and they usually drop the info on the ship when the ship goes on sale at about the same time so i would not expect anything until later.

oh yeah and there is supposed to be a mini game for the orion like there was for the carrack.

Interested on how other ships other than the orion will do for a mining ship.

Pretty cool that the 4 row of boxes rotate.

The mining concept is also up:https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14522-Star-Citizen-Careers-Mining

The remastered Omega class DD looked awesome from Call to Arms, Crusade and later the even higher res version from Tales From Babylon 5.

haha, yeah I don't have that problem at the moment. I was considering buying some more bullion this month with my play money but I may be persuaded to grab this lol.

I have to say that the design of the industrial ships are my by far my favorites. The Reclaimer, Starfarer and the Orion are very very cool. I hope they can pull off the Hull C for me as well.

Yes, they looked pretty damn good.

and later the even higher res version from Tales From Babylon 5.
The cruiser from Tales is the new Warlock Class destroyer. Those had artificial gravity (that we got from the Minbari for joining the Interstellar Alliance) so they didn't need rotating sections anymore.

The Omega in Tales is seen at the start of the episode which take place during the last episode of the series during the decommissioning scene, trust me I have enough Omega double D miniatures and a Warlock from playing the Earth Force faction in Babylon 5 Wars to take notice and tell the difference. Plus the Warlock was already in A Call To Arms.

I'm gonna have to watch Tales again 'cause I missed seeing the Omega there. I do remember seeing the Omegas in ACtA 'cause that was what the Russian Consortium sent out when Sheridan called Earth Force to fight the Drakh, and you are right they had some Warlocks in the background.

By the way did you know JMS is gonna write a B5 movie script this year. Let me quote The Great Maker himself on it

JMS said:
Here’s the plan: We’re going to have, through Studio JMS, at least two, maybe three TV series on the air next year. We’re going to have at least one or two movies going ahead. And we’ll use that to parlay serious investment in the studio. I’m not talking Kickstarter, I’m talking about one hundred million dollars, two hundred million dollars; we already have people who are lined up and interested in doing that.

So in 2015 I will write a Babylon 5 screenplay. I’ll be giving Warner Bros. the opportunity – if they want to step up, “Help yourself”. If they don’t, 2016: We make it. I’m not going to wait around for more of our cast members to die.

Yay, so much for saying it didn't feel right with the death of the actor who played G'kar.

Orion looks really mean, to bad it's not my kind of ship, I would really dig a warship like an Omega double D.

Not optimistic. Back in the day B5 was my favorite show. Have you read the synopsis of the last B5 feature film he tried to get made? It did not seem impressive for a TV movie, let alone a feature.

Anyone want to bet against the appearance of either some ancient evil force or some rogue Vorlon or Shadow tech as the MacGuffin for the plot?

Ok so I want to buy the Orion, but to realistically do it I would have to use my Starfarer LTI. How do you actually sell/trade ships for Starcitizen? I assume the LTI Starfarer is worth more than just melting it for store credit right?

reddit Starcitizen_trades is the best place, i have not sold anything in months tho so i have not been keeping up on current ship values but i would assume an LTI starfarer still holds some value

but generally you should get around 100 more than the melt value.

someone has one for sale for $320

so if you want to sell it faster you would need to price it lower, i would think around 280-290.

the lower the price the faster it will sell obviously and since you need to buy the orion before the end of the week you should try to be a little more lenient on the price to get it to sell faster.

Just make sure you link your RSI account to reddit for the star citizen trader flair ect which helps. here is a link to get confirmed http://www.reddit.com/r/Starcitizen_trades/wiki/userconfirmation

and if you pm me a link to your sale i can help vouch for you as a legit seller as i have a few trades under my belt.

also forgot to mention if you plan to melt it to not deal with the hassle of reddit, there is a chance lorien could be interested in it at cost not sure which ships he is interested in, i know when ever i mention i melted an lti ship he was interested in them instead of melting but i only melted them when they are account locked so it was never an option for me to pass them off to him at cost.

edit there is a video comparison of the orion

I've got $200 to spend. I haven't played a space game since Homeworld. The last game I played that I used my flight stick was BF2. I thought it might be fun to dust it off or buy a new one. Any recommended ships at my price range?

I'd say a Super Hornet if your a fighter jock, they go on sale every now and again as a complete game package for $180. Otherwise start small, pick up a Origin 325a or an Aegis Avenger (both are arount $75) or a for a bit less, the Mustang Alpha Starter Pack ($45) which includes an Arena Commander pass, which you'll need to fly, just to get a feel for the game and have something offensive. All these ships are fun to fly and no matter how low you start, you can earn the ships once the game gets released.

In the next month Update 1.1 will come out and then you'll start being able to earn the ability to fly other ships on a rental bases using REC, getting the Mustang Alpha Starter now, seeing if you like flying it, testing various ships with REC and then if you really like the Super Hornet, you can melt your pledge (or upgrade it) and apply the money towards a Super Hornet Game Package.

EDIT: I should mention, I went down the fighter route right now. The game for all intent and purpose is going to be an MMO, but skill based rather then point and click RPG gameplay. There are lots of other ships that are good for other gameplay types, besides figher, cargo, explorer and mining to name a few, if you chose a ship that is not in AC you'll get a loaner ship that is similar to the price range of that ship (either an Aurora MR, 300i or a Hornet F7C). Arena Commander currently only focuses on 2 types rolls, fighter and racer. If you want to try various ships out, you can freely melt your game package or ship for credit every 24 hours to try something else, all you need to play is a "game package" and a "arena commander" pass or a "game package" that includes an "arena commander" pass. It hasn't been to clear how other tester passes will work, if FPS will be included in the AC pass. Also you'll see something called "beta access" on most game packages, except the cheapest game packages and the second wave of AMD game packages, this is to access the "Persistent Universe" or PU of the game we call Star Citizen before retail release. Squadron 42 and Star Citizen is included in all game packages and that is what makes them game packages, those are the games you are preordering.

Just buy a Aurora or Mustang starter package for $45 if you decided you really want to support the development of the game beyond that slowly work your way up. You can reclaim your game package for store credits and apply it to something better if you want to later on.

It's hard to say what kind of ship to recommend, for Arena Commander ship combat a Super Hornet seems to be the king at the moment, however the FPS module is coming out making dog fights and racing just another option. Then of course once the PU alpha goes live you'll have trade and exploration and mining, which the Super Hornet will be pretty worthless. Also they will be instituting REC soon which basically means if you help them test out the alpha and beta by actually playing the game (multiplayer only currently planned), you can earn credits to "rent" some of the other ships and what not without putting down real money.

Just remember, with the exception of 2 very limited ships that where offered early on and 1 or 2 cross promotional items. Every thing is earn-able in game, so don't think you need to go and pay $200 unless you really want to support the game.

nice, but my gladius and tali are melted atm because of that damn idris so i dont get to see them in my hangar boo hoo lol

Roberts also revealed that the Star Citizen FPS module will be publicly playable for the first at PAX East, which begins on 6 March.

Great news. Seems like there's going to be a ton of game development news next week, between GDC right into PAX.

Who knows they might actually fix that annoying "invisible Idris" known issue one of these patches.

Yeah, I dropped $50something (maybe more?) on a Origin 315 package way back when. That's basically all i'm going to be spending on it. My only regret is that I didn't get one with lifetime insurance. Even if I never play the persistent universe it sounds like the single player is going to be a good return on the money I paid for the game.

Though I really wish they had joystick button remapping already... having to use TARGET (thrustmaster's joystick software) and editing profiles is a bit of a pain.

They have button remapping and the ability to save control profiles in the game now. Take a look in the menus.

just remember to save the config file before you update. I think I saw someone say that it's stored in the user folder that gets deleted. I'm not sure though, but there is a save to file or export option in the menus.

yeah i think updating currently deletes it.
