There is something really really wrong when myself with 400kPPD is now ahead of Grandpa, rhavern or Nathan_P and other dinosaurs of the team :(
Hope you guys find your way back soon, with some GPUs in your multi-slot motherboard.

I can still do 400k - its just that WU distribution atm puts me at about 315-330k. 7505 on both rigs would see 400k restored. AS for GPU's, I have a lot of expenditure planned this year for other items, F@H is not going to get much of a slice of the pie.

Edit:- At least it makes things interesting, I haven't had a full threat list in months

I have been folding for around 14 years and this is nothing that has not happened before and will continue to happen in the future. Unfortunately F@H may have shot themselves in the foot this time they choose GPU's as there way of the future unfortunately they choose a very limited resource as it stands today.

#1 the fastest card is Nivida 9xx for core 17 which is the last generation of WU's
#2 the slowest card for core 18 is 9xx which PG blames Nvidia driver issues
#3 PG says it is Nvidia's problem and they need to fix it.
#4 Hmmph I always thought that if you were writing software it was your responsibility to make it work with existing software. Not the other way around.
#5 Limited WU size they still can not make the higher atom count WU's work on GPU's
#6 Loss of resources due to points system moving away from cpu based folding.
#7 Folding Forum admin bad behavior toward donor public.

There are several things that currently point to less community involvement and support at this time, hopefully they get it worked out before it cost them too much more in donor participation. Personally I do not believe that at this time there is any good way to go, I would lean towards GPU but then there is the driver / core 18 issue. And even if that was not there I do believe the donor public deserves to be treated much better than the way they are at the Folding Forum.

I personally believe very much in the science that PG is doing unfortunately when you add all the thing above up, it adds up to there are other choices out there that are more attractive.

Which is sad to a person such as myself that has devoted as many years as I have to a project.

There is another point - no need to keep dreaming of that E5 v2 rig that you want:p.

PS; I'm not a Dinosaur quite yet - I haven't even reached 40!

Hmmm, if you use 40 as a definition of a dinosaur, then I guess I am a fossil.

OMG, I just about fell out of my chair laughing reading that!!!

Well, technically the OpenMM that Core 18/17 is based on came out before NVidia screwed up their drivers. Really this comes down to the contempt NV has towards OpenCL because it runs on more hardware than theirs.

Yes, the Folding-craze drove many of us into building rigs that we had never even thought of doing...and it was glorious!! I miss those days. But I'd already peaked (equipment-wise) before PG did their thing to Bigadv and would have been facing doing electrical capacity work in my home if I took it any further. :D

PS: you still have milk on your breath at 40...

Wine, actually, at the moment. I fit the dinosaur symbol in two respects: 50+ years of age like Grandpa, and 15 years of Folding. I'm too beat up to continue for a while. Rigs are turned off.

Not Team 33, but with [H] going on ten years now.

Linden, did you ever venture over into the "darkside" and try Crunching or have you been Folding all these years? Just wonderin'...

I'm trying to run projects through BOINC, unsuccessfully.

So far, no joy. I must have something configured wrong.

Yesterday I installed BOINC and it was my first experience with it. If I recall correctly, in 2000 or 2001, I ran SETI for one or two days. So yes, it's be Folding@Home for me essentially exclusively for nearly 15 years.

Update, 18 February 2015: This dinosaur is stomping butt with four multi-core machines on BOINC projects for team HardOCP.

I still need GPUgrid on CentOS 7; still no package to install :( and no time to tinker with source;
But also don't want to go back to Ubuntu

I'm emotionally less attached to BA-points; have only a few dozen made on EC2; but to drive a bunch of GPU I'm thinking now on a pair of 2620v3 and fill with SMP slots

I guess I'm an old dinosaur pushing fossil, but a folding yungsta since 2010.

I sense a new tag-line or maybe badges that account for your chronological age in DC work. I'm 62 and figure that I'm not the oldest DC'er 'round here. I've run into them in other forums that were into their late 70's and still doing this work. Hope that I make it at least that far and can still remember how to use a PC. :D

I'm thinking about changing out my 7970s for newer stuff. It is indeed a sad time in 4P-land.

Yeah I'm looking to see if I can squeeze a 750ti or 960 in my Z9PE mobo, plenty of space for them and ideally I'd like to shove 2 or 3 gpu's in there but no cash to do it:(

Ditto Nathan. Wouldn't mind getting into some more efficient PPD but can't seem to get anything recognized by my AsRock mobo in my Server (tried 3 vidcards) which is strange as it used to fold fine with a GTX460 a year or so ago. I read somewhere to re-seat the CPU to reset GPU detection on these AsRock Z77 boards. Was only trying to get a GTX550Ti to run so haven't been motivated enuff to take the Server down but if I get a 750Ti or > I'll get out some tools.

edit: I'm a dino too, 50+ , only folding since 2004 but did SETI on screensaver for years before that ;)
