According to this company blog post, Uber is taking credit for a drop in the number of drunk driving crashes in California.

In California, Uber’s home state and largest market, drunk-driving crashes fell by 60 per month among drivers under 30 in the markets where Uber operates following the launch of uberX. That’s an estimated total of 1,800 crashes prevented since July 2012.

While the numbers are debatable, I believe the overall hypothesis. Before getting a cab was more expensive and incredibly inconvenient most of the time. Having it on-demand on your smartphone, can't tell you how many times I've used it while....incapacitated. Handy having the timestamped receipt to see what time you got home that night. ;)

I wish people would learn how to properly use "less" and "fewer". If you can count them, you should be using "fewer".

These seems like a reasonable call to make, maybe not full responsible but it would be a fairly safe bet to say that they have contributed.

I liked free rides home when you were drunk from some of the clubs in los angeles... and on new years eve and a half a dozen other times...

I have lots of alcoholic IT friends that use Uber for parting on Friday Nights.

No direct money required, just your phone. They swear by it for safe fun bar hopping.

So Yes I believe it! I think it's actually higher number of saves they they list!
