How to store on HDD and have access on SSD boot drive

I just got a good deal on an SSD and cloned everything over to it from my 1TB HDD. I used Macrium Reflect (free version) for the clone and everything went well. Now, how do I continue to use my 1TB drive for storage and have access to those downloads from the desktop on my new boot drive? How do I direct my computer to route a download to either the SSD or my old HDD? Thanks.

Are you currently booting from your SSD? I would remove the HDD temporarily to verify that you are.

If you are, then what you are asking will greatly depend on your operating system. If you are running windows, your user profile is by default on the C:\user\PROFILE path. There are ways to change that - but I have found that is not the best solution.

For a Data drive - I would just change the download destination in your browser (IE, FireFox, Chrome, etc), and the path in any download client/ bittorrent client to the Data drive. It should be under the settings and easy to find.

Yes I'm booting from the SSD. So for each download I would manually route the download to the data drive? Say it is a game or something...would I be able to start that game from the desktop that I believe is on my SSD? Is there any way to establish a link on the desktop (on the boot drive) that will access something that is on the data (storage) drive?

1. Wipe the HDD clean. Nuke it and format it correctly.
2. Put the following folders on it: Documents, Pictures, Music, Downloads & Desktop.
3. Now go to your SSD, into the Users folder and go to your profile.
4. In there, you will see each of the folders like what you just made on the HDD. Right-click on each and go to Properties.
5. Now select Location.
6. Now select Move.
7. Now browse to the HDD and the folder match same name and select it.
8. Follow the prompts from here and it will move the data from these folders to the HDD.

These steps will see a huge space saving on a SSD without the bullshit of registry hacks on profiles that will screw you if the HDD died. The advice given above is even better when the HDD's a RAID-1 Mirrored set protecting against a drive failure.

right click your download folder and Set Location to your 1TB , you can do the same for most folders

Keep your user profile ON your SSD.

When you download files, just choose where to save them.

This is good help, thanks. Will this leave a desktop icon or some kind of link on the SSD's desktop? Also is it absolutely necessary to wipe the 1TB HDD? Is the procedure the same for something like Steam or Origin (maybe moving my games to the storage drive)? Also how do I put the Documents, Pictures, Music, Downloads& Desktop folders on the blank drive (how do I create them)?

You don't have to wipe it. Wiping is a good way to start fresh.

If you have games or folders like steam/origin then these will need to be placed there and the client (Steam/Origin) needs to be pointed at the games folder.
