Premise: early 4k displays used MST in tiled aka collage mode to display 4k at 60hz.

Anecdotal Evidence: Online blog posts have claimed that connecting 2 usb 3.0 -> DP adapters to an MST, tile mode display provides 50hz refresh rate at 4K resolution bypassing the 30 hz barrier that affects usb 3.0 docking stations.

Stupid Question: Could a graphics adapter be developed that takes multiple usb 3.0 connections from your computer and converts them into a single, 50-60hz, 4k displayport output to send to a SST 4k display, or a display that doesn't support tiled mode?

Let me entertain the idea for a moment.

If you would want to take two output of those USB 3.0 to DP adapters and turn them into 1 output, you would need essentially an external scaler chip to fuse the two together. The idea seems ludicrous. MST seems ludicrous.

There's no technical reason why something like this couldn't be made. That said, the market would likely be small and the costs would be high, and the window where it would be useful is probably going to be small since in the near future everything will support 4K @ 60Hz.
