Philips BDM4065UC - 40" 4K 60Hz monitor thread

I also had a amazon UK order waiting since mid december. But last week this company "DB Technology srl" temporarily listed 2 for 2 days for £598 inc shipping to Ireland. I think it was based in Italy. Since they claimed dispatch within 3 to 5 days it overrode the amazon supplied one which is still 1 to 2 months. Though only today it said dispatched so we'll see. Anyway this one mentioned by Darwin32 seems good too especially considering where the Euro is going. http://www.hw1.it/philips-bdm4065uc-bdm4065uc-00/ref_tdb/

Weird didn't knew amazon could do that, I assumed that as long as you buyed from amazon (the actual amazon) the stock would have to come from amazon.
I have had the opportunity to buy the monitor for that price a few times, they https://www.wireshop.it/philips-bdm4065uc-bdm4065uc-00/ used to have it as well, but honestly since I'm not 100% sure I will keep the monitor (extremely likely I will but still), I have been hesitant to buy it anywhere else but amazon, even though buying from one of those stores would be quite the saving (almost 200€ cheaper really).

Hahahaahahha! I started out just wanting one and assumed the Korean 40" would be okay. I then saw that jp was selling his and I couldn't pass up on a good deal!

By Wednesday, I should have 2 up and running -- they'll be completely replacing my 27" Korean PLS/IPS panels.

Very cool, I can't wait for the US models to arrive in a few weeks. Please post some shots of them when you do get it, two of these on an adjustable arm would be one hell of an immersive experience!

Wonder if the next step for these screens is going curved, will we just end up buying 4 to make a circle?

Actually I made a new order from that company and then cancelled the original amazon fulfilled order.

Patiently waiting for the US model. Wish Amazon would put there listing back up so I can pre-order one ~~

And yikes Overclockers UK has there next batch as ETA: 06/02/15

This is part of my setup, as a comparison between the 40" Philips and a 27" Crossover. Pardon the focus/brightness/color -- this is from my phone.

I've gone with a cheap $30 VESA mounting option until I figure out how I'm going to arrange the setup. Unfortunately, I don't *think* I will be mounting them next to each other. I bought one of the monitors for a specific purpose -- to hook up to a secondary PC I have off to the right of the picture.

I may need to build a bigger desk if I ever plan to use these as part of the same setup.

Ah, Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers. I miss those, and actually I have a funny story involving them. My set spontaneously died one day even though I never played them anywhere near their potential, and despite power cycling them with the switch on the back of the sub, letting them sit unplugged for an hour or so, and even replacing the fuse in the sub, I wasn't able to make them work again. So I took this sad turn of events as an excuse to go 5.1 and purchased the Logitech Z-5500. While setting those up, my good friend living in the room next to mine (I was in a fraternity at the time) walked into my room. I explained what had happened and since I knew he was a fellow tech enthusiast and also a bit mechanically/electronically inclined, I said, "You know what, if you want my old ones, they're yours if you want to try to make them work." So he took them, and before I had even finished cabling my Z-5500, I heard loud bass on the other side of one of my walls, which I knew could only be coming from one thing.... So I walked into his room and said, "Ok, what the hell did you do to resurrect those speakers so quickly?" He said, "Absolutely nothing. I just plugged them in and they worked!" I honored what I told him earlier, so he obviously got quite a smoking deal on some sweet speakers! :p

Since then I moved into an apartment and bought a Kuro TV, so my Z-5500s was repurposed as a home theater setup, and I subsequently sold it (for almost what I'd paid for it 6 years earlier!!!) and upgraded to a real AVR and home theater speakers. My PC now has a very basic Logitech 2.1 set, but I don't use it as often as I used the Klipsch/Z-5500 setup anyway. Great memories, though!

Wow, you just gave me a great reference on how big the Phillips is. I have the same Crossover monitor. :)

but does Wire Shop charge shipping?

as Amazon UK is only £609.12 w/ no charge on shipping

otherwise, there is a €202 difference

They surely charge shipping, but if it's like the other Italian store, we are talking a bit less than 50€ in P&P, it really is quite normal for the monitor to be found at this price, since if it wasn't for the stock shortage, that would be quite a common price, lets not forget the MSRP/RRP for this monitor in most countries is 700€, and as a general rule most items can easily be found at bellow the recommended price, https://www.worten.pt/monitor-4k-40-philips-bdm4065uc.html for example that is the price of the monitor in my country in one of the big stores.

Now that's not to say that all stores will have this price, since at least in the UK the MSRP seems to be a bit higher, but amazon has several European stores, so when they show up in those, they will probably need to "price match" other stores, and as such I suspect at least amazon will at some point in the future have the monitor for quite a lot less, than they currently do.

Question. Does anyone know what the diagonal inch is for 3 times 23.8 inch screen in portraitmode? would like to see if i am able to handle this screen since that is working fine for me.

If you currently have 3 24" in portrait mode then this screen should work just fine, since 3 screens in portrait mode give you an height of 20.92 inches, and a width of 35,31 inches, the 40" has a height of 19.61 and a width of 34.86 (this in landscape obviously).

This shows that a curved 40" would be absolutely perfect substitute for one type of multimonitor setup. I hope R&D people in LG and Samsung are sweating now on prototypes of such displays.

so i just sold my 3 Dell u2414h... now to decide to get the philips or the Dell curved...delll is in stock atleast.

Shh! Tring desperately enough as it is to resist the urge to buy this monitor. :)

I have displayfusion, so I've split the screen up into 3 vertical panels, with the 2 outside panels being split in half horizontally. My primary IDE goes in the middle, tall panel and sits at ~1280x2160; everything else gets pushed to the outside into 1280x1080 boxes.

That software also works with just one monitor?

Taken from the TFT Central Review:
"...the SmartUniformity mode offers an improvement to the uniformity of the screen, some other areas are impacted negatively. At 100 brightness, we are now limited to a maximum luminance of 198 cd/m2. Not actually a bad thing as the maximum before was ~ 300 cd/m2"

So, concerning PWM, I was wondering if letting the Brightness level at 100 in this mode PWM would be off? What you guys think ?
This mode looks great and TFT Central gives a calibrated profile for it! So if we get rid of PWM with "not too bright" 100% brightness... problem solved ! :D

If you read the ENTIRE review, you'll find that they confirm that at 100 brightness, PWM is indeed off. But if you read this thread, you'll find that nobody here has yet had an issue with PWM. TFT Central also found that SmartUniformity had its downsides, though.

I know it's supposed to be off at 100% brightness. I have no problem so far using mine (30-50 hours) but I guess a "safer" setting would be nice. Also, I read somewhere that depending on the modes and brightness mix used by the monitor, PWM could be used or not. So maybe at 100% in smartuniformity mode, it's still on. But if not, the 200 cad in this mode is bearable so I guess many could use it.

From what I understand in the review, the smartuniformity brings more good things than bad things so this is the mode I am using right now with the ICC profile they created for it!

This review shows that the screen itself is on top of anything available today maybe except high-end professional requirements like perfect color temperature etc.

Great size but I would prefer the screen to be curved like the Dell u3415w.

Does anybody know if curved LCD panels are made only by LG and Samsung or other manufacturers are making them too???

Registered myself because i wanted to join this discussion :)

Yesterday i brought back my Dell U3415W Curved screen for the following reasons:

- Backlight bleeding (upper left & right corners)
- IPS glow (lower left & rights corners)
- Connecting a PS4 won't give me full screen (correct properties)

I bought the screen (together with 2x GTX 970) to be able to run everything smoothly for the next 2 years or so..

Then the whole 3,5gb gate started and i really started to think if i'm going to be happy with the bleeding & glow for the price of 800 euros

After 12 days of gaming i made the choise to return it..

So now i think i only have 1 alternative and thats the philips BDM4065UC
Also gonna return my sli gtx970 and upgrade to the gtx980

1 thing i'm still curious about and thats the possible "lag / ghosting" in FPS games..

If you are willing to spend the money then sure sli of GTX980 is nice, but if not you can get the crossfire r9 290x for about the same price as the 970, and they perform just aswell (or better really), they do require more power, but still they are a nice purchase.
Now granted I'm saying this as someone that didn't actually go for crossfire r9 290x, but instead went for the SLI of 970, but I do get evga 970 for around 60 to 70€ less than I get the 290x so that for me is a no brainer.

BTW you should be aware that the 4k is quite a bit more demanding than the resolution of the dell, it might not look like much of a difference, but it is around 60% more

Not necessarily true they might pull the same trick Phillips is pulling and just use one of their curved tv panels (not necessarily ones that already exist), since doing this is not only cheaper for them, but also cheaper for their buyers.

Considering how well this monitor is selling it might be a strong possibility.

From Amazon:
"Due to a lack of availability, we will not be able to obtain the following item(s) from your order:

"Philips BDM4065UC 40" Class 4K UHD 3840 x2160 Resolution, Speakers, USB Hub, VGA, DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, MHL-HDMI"

We've canceled the item(s) and apologize for the inconvenience."

I guess people in the US will have to get it shipped internationally after all.
