Samsung 850 evo vs 830

I got a new laptop and swapped my 830 into it from my old laptop and I was wondering if the 850 Evo is a good upgrade from the 830 or should I get the 850 Pro? I will be using both with a hard drive caddy anyways in the new laptop but was wondering which one should I use for the OS or if it is even worth the trouble. Alternatively is there another SSD out there that is recommended? I havent been really up to date with SSDs.

850 Evo is plenty fast. Doubt you would notice a difference between it and the Pro, though I haven't put them side by side yet.

For that matter, I'm not sure the difference would be too noticeable from the 830 eoither

If you currently have an 830, I say leave it. You won't notice much, if any, difference doing anything. Your response times is where most of it is going to take place. Do you plan to do lots of large file transfers?

Unless you are upgrading to a larger drive, I wouldn't worry about swapping it out.
I have many of SSD's. The 830 is still very solid in comparison to the newer models.

There a number of solid other drives to consider, best of the best? Sandisk Extreme Pro. Top notch drive, but price is matches it.

The Samsung 830 will do fine, stay away from the EVO devices in general. If you want an alternative have a look at Crucials M550 series which have a good price/performance ratio.

The 850 Evo is using the 3D NAND so it is supposed to great life. With that said though if your 830 is doing fine you won't notice a difference.

The 850 Pro and 850 Evo are very similar in a lot of ways, the Pro edges out in pure speed but you will never realize that and it also comes with a massive warranty.

Keep the 830 unless you have a specific need for something the 850s have.
Performance difference will be small.
