I have one, but don't really have a choice. I have two small children and they LOVE cell phones. So, when you turn your back for literally just a few seconds, it is gone.

I currently am using an Incipio DualPro on my Z3. Between that and the Tudia Ultra Slim Bumper style case, I keep something on my phone at all times.

It has already saved me from some scratches and potential breaks.
 
I used to have an OtterBox on my Atrix 2. One day the rubber membrane started to break so I just took the whole thing off and went caseless. I bought an LG G2 when it first came out and couldn't find a case that I liked at the time, and ended up never getting one. It's been dropped a number of times and looks fine.

I've never used any kind of screen protector, never found a need for them. My phone is the only thing in my pocket so there is nothing to scratch it.
 
I have an otterbox on my Moto X. I never used to use cases on my phones but ever since thin became cool I've started just to add bulk to the phone. Also between working on the house the cars and knocking it off server racks. I'm guessing the case has saved the phone a few times.

I kinda like my cases it just one less thing to worry about if the phone gets dropped so what.

It even survived being thrown across the room at the cat. Never used a screen protector and never had my screens get scratched.
 
I have a Samsung Protective on my Note 4. Its a bit thicker now, but seems dumb not to have something on an $800 phone.

I don't use cases. I don't buy a nice thin device just to fatten it up with a case. Instead, I simply choose not to drop the phone.
 
Always start with a case on my phones, but eventually get sick of the thickness and remove once they are no longer new and I quit caring. I drop my Moto x all the time without a case and have yet to cause it harm.

Only screen I have even broken was my droid x and I don't think a case would have saved it. I Fell asleep with it and when the alarm went off I used my sheets as a catapult to sent it flying. Broke the lcd, but not the screen it self.
 
I've dropped my phone but only in a home setting onto carpet and then it's really an issue of accidents involving USB cords. So my concern is actually the durability of the connector something a case wouldn't really protect. As such I don't use a case.

Regarding scratches the issue is fine scratches from abrasive particles and not deep scratches from objects like keys. If you take your phone and examine it at various angles under a very bright direct light with the screen off chances are you will see fine scratches that wouldn't otherwise wouldn't notice in regular use. But the bare screen just feels and looks better so it's a tradeoff.

Related to this is going forward you may see phones utilize flexible but plastic displays which are much harder to shatter/damage or displays that are harder to scratch (eg. sapphire). I'd personally prefer the latter development.
 
I habe dropped my current phone in a full bathtub, I have fallen in freezing water with my phone in my pocket, it has fallen on the ground in every possible way and it still looks pristine. I don't need a case on a Nokia ;) (Lumia 1020).
 
I have a thin TPU cover almost entirely for grip purposes. I spend a lot of time in my car, and the slick plastic back on my phone meant that without a cover, even the most mild acceleration (longitudinal or lateral) would result in the phone slipping away somewhere nigh irretrievable.

As it happens, I've also dropped it a couple of times (literally, 2 times) and I feel the case probably saved me from a cracked screen on one occasion where it landed on a corner.

I do not use a screen protector. Used one on my first iphone, but since phone makers started using gorilla glass I haven't seen the need, none of my last 3 phones have suffered anything but the most imperceptible scratches.
 
I usually have a case on all my phones, just something simple with a good texture so it's more comfortable to hold. I treat my phones carefully, I haven't broken/dropped a phone yet. My phones even after years of use look brand new other than a little scuffing around the charger port. I generally avoid the screen protectors too. I'm old enough to know that I shouldn't put my car keys and smartphone in the same pocket.

I know my electronics/cars/toys aren't an investment since you (generally) won't get that initial purchase price back ever if you sell it, but that's no reason to treat the stuff like garbage and abuse it.

I'm always amazed when I buy/sell/trade phones what people think is actually good/mint condition lol. Half the stuff I see looks like it was stuck in a sock of nickels and ran in the dryer for an hour.
 
I usally rock outter boxes on all my phones but I wanted to keep my new note 4 at about the same size as my old phone with the outter box . So it has a thin silicone cheap case on it and a glass screen protector. I can say enough how great the glass screen protector is . I would tell every one to get one. Feels like there is nothing there at all. And for the whole 4 bucks from amazon why the hell not. Already dropped my phone like 3 times lol. If the case wasn't on there I would have nice gashes in it from the concert. My wife has an outer box on her phone because life in that purse of hers can kill anything lol
 
I use cases for 3 reasons:
1. Phones are getting so damn thin, they are difficult for me to hold and get a grip on. Truth be told, I don't give a shit how thin they make a phone. In fact I wish they would make them slightly thicker (to a point) and use the space for larger batteries, heat dissipation, etc. For some people the thinness isn't an issue, for some people it is. I also have an HTC One M8, and the curved back and polished metal with thin sides makes it slicker than a bar of soap for me.

2. Most cases can add a small lip to the front of the phone. This raises the screen off the surface that it is sitting on. It is very handy if you drop it so it doesn't land face down and scratch the screen, or if I lay it down face first out of carelessness.

3. Corner and edge protection. Gorilla glass is damn strong, but we all know that sudden impacts on a corner or edge will focus the energy more and increase chances of the glass shattering. This happens even more often now when the screens go to the very edge and there isn't much material left in the housing to absorb energy.


I currently use a Seidio Dilex case on my HTC One M8. It's got a rubber inner layer and harder plastic outershell for extra protection. The hard outershell also has a metal spring loaded kickstand that is held in place with a magnet, so no cheap plastic that can break. Best $30 I have ever spent on a phone accessory.
 
I had a cheap case on my Nokia 928 for 18 months, never had an issue. took it off at work to clean it and it disappeared. still haven't had an issue.
 
Say all you want about glass screen protectors, I just know that they have saved my phones screen. I dropped my m8 on bathroom tile, picked it up, found the front completely shattered, pulled off the screen protector to find not a single scratch on my screen. I don't care if the hardness is 9h, I just know that it's doing a fantastic job of keeping my screen safe from breaks and scratches. It feels a lot better than the stock gorilla glass too.
 
I can't imagine not having an otterbox defender, I drop my phone too often for that
 
I never had one in the past, but when I got my iPhone 6 Plus I bought one of the cheap OtterBox covers for the back and the sides. For the screen I just use one of the film covers that I had used on my previous phones.

I wasn't sure about it at first, but I think I am coming around to the combination.
 
Phones have gotten to be such beautiful designs, and almost artwork, like the HTC One series, the iPhone line, even the OnePlus One is a good looking smartphone. Such a shame to cove them up with a case. But a case is a must.

I don't care how good you treat your phone, if no case, it will eventually show everyday wear and tare, a little accidental scuff or scratch, here or there. Which is impossible to prevent over a years worth of use.

So if you don't care what you're phone looks like, then run naked with no case. But if you want to keep it in near perfect condition a year + later, then a case is a must have.
 
I have a razr M with that hard shell, no screen cover case with the shell belt clip. It is minimal but does help with the bounce. I have dropped mine in rocks and dirt more times than I can remember, and knocked off big pieces of screen saver in the process. No marks on the screen itself.
 
Just bought a Note 4 and absolutely love it! Bought a Tech21 case for it that looks really good and adds very little bulk and is still easy to slide in and out of my pockets. Probably the best case I've owned in terms of looks and performed. I use a screen protector too. Zag I think was the name. Can't remember. It was whatever Best Buy carries. I think I they're all the same unless you get into the glass ones. I stick with the plastic ones. They're cheaper and still protect great.
 
No case, too bulky. Only phone I have ever broke was my note 2 and case wouldn't have prevented the damage. I've had 4 smart phones, all case less.
 
I keep my phones for a minimum 4 years and it drives me nuts to see cracks and dings.

Don't have 800$ to spend every 2 years. (I can't work with carrier locked phones)

Case on for my phone.

What's the point of having a perfect phone if you never get to see it? I find it odd when people buy a phone because of its exquisite design, then slap some bulky Otterbox on it.
