According to this article, Google will be moving on to the next version of Glass soon. Glasshole 2.0 anyone? :D

Google will stop selling the current version of Google Glass and reorganize the business behind it, Dow Jones reported on Thursday. The newly reorganized Glass business will report to Tony Fadell, CEO of Nest, the home automation company Google acquired last year.

Whatever Google ones out with next for Glass the it's going to have to be significantly less than $1500 in order to have much of chance for much market acceptance.

They can try.
Try? all they have to do is not let you in the first place. If you try to force your way in, you will probably go to jail. If you do manage to sneak and in and refuse to leave when asked, you will probably go to jail.

You do understand $1500 was for developers, not end users. So if they come out with another $1500 set it will once again be targeted at developers. This isn't brain surgery here.

Without users, why would developers want to spend their time on it? For their own use? That seems to be the primary market.

Many places already ban it. I'm not seeing how it can take off.

As it evolves and tech improves, they'll continue to blur the line between Google Glass and a regular pair of glasses, and at some point people won't be able to tell the difference. So they're just pouring more money into reaching that convergence point. And then unless everywhere is willing to ban glasses altogether, I'm afraid its not going to matter much.

Google's competitors already all have similar wearable initiatives in their labs as well, lest anyone think Goog were the only ones interested in this market segment.

Unless if those cameras start changing the very basics of how they operate, Google Glass will be quite obvious to just about anyone who wants to know (ironically, probably wearing similar devices themselves).

Hell, a public feed is already enough to facially scan stadium attendees to facial recognition purposes. Start adding in wireless connections and camera lenses? Might as well paint a sign over your head.

Let;s hope the next version is more reliable, has much better battery life, and looks less dorky.
I fully support my kids wearing these - best form of birth control ever.

The only place where the word "developers" appears on this page is at the bottom of with the fine print links. From this ordering page:

Who are Glass Explorers?

From chefs to cyclists, Glass Explorers are the first to make, move, and marvel through Glass. They're bold and inspiring and they're helping shape the future of Glass.

Not one reference to developers. But the $1500 Buy button is there. Not trying to get into a debate over this, just pointing out completely indisputable facts as of 01/15/2015 10:25 PM EST.

They can try to ban it off my face.

I'm pretty sure not understanding the right of a business to deny service to people for non-discriminatory reasons is part of the problem with Google Glass going more mainstream. Yes, you're turning yourself into a walking, talking Google Creeper Cam tripod and that's also kinda sad from the perspective of people who are a tiny bit more intellectually wealthy, but the main problem is the "I gots me some rights yer violatin'!" attitude of people who don't understand that they can easily get slapped with a criminal trespass warning by the business that results in an arrest if they violate it.
