A Picture I Took 2015

I mentioned this is the other post, but I know it was a wall of text... sooo yeah, I shoot everything on location, and I don't have a studio space. This is literally her bathroom. We 'set dressed' it, maybe literally, by using the curtain rod as a dress rack and covering the back window with that window blind and a few other things like that, but yeah, that's a bathroom. Pretty easy to do though, because all her clothes were on a dress rack to begin with, her being an actress and all, it was actually seeing that visually that gave me the idea to use the shower in that way.

The super tricky part about doing these shots was shooting angles and focal length. I wanted at least 50mm (which these were shot with), but what you don't see is the fact that I'm shooting through a door. I locked down the first two shots on sticks because any movement to the left or the right would have introduced the door frame. But that's the magic of photography! Had I not shared that, you'd never know.
...

^^ Thank you for taking the time to explain all the info. It is great when the shots tell a story and have a narrative to it.

Beautiful images! That had to be cold!

Ty, hard to take credit when its all mother nature. It was frigid, I totally underestimated how cold that part of the world can get, and I was definitely not ready nor dressed for it. When we drove through New Mexico, we encountered a snow storm. Snow?! New Mexico?! Who would have thought.

Bryce ...

Wow. Love these shots. I need to do a tour and hit some good landscape locations like this.

a batch from yesterdays hike. Gave the a6000 a good test in some unfavorable conditions. It rained pretty heavy for most of the hike.

Very nice! Perfect sky in that last one would make any landscape look epic. Gotta love it when everything lines up for a shot like that.

Nice catch...I've been enjoying my new Nikon FE enough that part of me is seriously considering getting a medium format film camera. I was thinking more along the lines of a Mamiya 645 though.

That's crazy, I've been thinking the same thing for a little while. A 1000s with prism, 80mm, and auto rewinder can be had for like.... $200 (if you're patiently looking, closer to $300 if you're less patient). My only issue is of course cost. Not necessarily with the system itself, but man film is expensive. Digital has spoiled me in that sense.

I've enjoyed shooting film the last few years. Shooting 120mm film on my Dad's Twins Lens Reflex Mamiya C330, and 35mm film on a Pentax Spotmatic.

I really like the flat look of the medium format for people pictures, both full body and head and shoulders. Makes people look better. The 80mm lens is wider on the medium format and it all just works great. (The same flat look can be had with the 35mm by tossing on a telephoto lens and standing back a lot further, but the bokeh and background separation won't be there.) The perfectionist in me has a problem because I don't have any way to get sharp scans easily. That is where the 35mm wins out because I can get 4000dpi scans on my dedicated Canon FS4000US scanners. The 120mm I can scan on my Epson V500, but that is only good to 1200dpi. A V750/800+ would be better, and fluid mounting could improve it more.

A benefit with the 120mm film is that it is more forgiving to film grain. I shot a bunch of rolls of 30+ year expired Kodak Kodacolor II ASA 100 color film shot at ASA 12, and they looked great. Same with some fresh Lomography 800 ISO film that looked good. The larger grains of the Lomography film actually worked out to be a benefit because the film scans "sharper" on the V500.

hows that X-T1? compared to your Canon?

I havent really used my 5D Mark III in about 8 months.. I love my Fuji X-T1.. and man their lenses are equal or better then most of my "L"..

I have been slowly selling off my canon glass.. but probably going to keep my 5DMkIII with the 24-70L 2.8 v2, 70-200L 2.8 v2 and 135L... I already sold off my 17-40, 50L, 35L, 85L.. and not sure what I am going to do with my 24-105...

And the weight.. my old backpack weighed 10lbs.. but the same focal length Fuji glass/setup... only 3lbs :)

nice, i got 5DIII with 17-40, 24-70 v1, 40, 50L, 85L v1, 70-200 2.8 v2, 100L and tammy 150-600, kinda in the same boat, waiting few months to see if Canon does anything in sensor/mirrorless department if not then will start selling stuff.

I wish canon stepped up with their EOS-M.. but it just wasn't there... I am going to see what Canon does and see the new Fuji X-Pro 2 that is suppose to be released later in the year.. before I decide what to do with the rest of my canon gear.. I guess I could sell it all, keep the fuji and get a Pentax 645z :)

Another one I just caught about a half hour ago as the sun was coming up:

If that's the Los Angeles National forrest I'm thinking of, and that's Mount Baldy right there, then you were pretty near my house...

Ugh! Death Valley is so close but it always feels like I can never get out there. Would love to shoot fashion or something. Landscaping might be fun too. Great shots as per usual. Always jealous about how much globe trekking you get to do.

Beautiful sunset. But... Is that a tardis in the extreme right side?

It was sunrise not sunset.

Not sure what a "tardis" is or what your referring to. If it is the object that is square, that is the end of the gutter on the house. :p

OK, thanks for the clarification. And I see that someone explained my reference. Excellent.

Hah! I live in Toronto and got all the way out there, you have no excuse! :p - If I lived in that part of the world, oh man, i cant imagine just how much landscape shooting I'd do. Everything is so close - all kinds of terrain, deserts, mountains, forests, snow!

My issue is cost. :(
I see you made it out to LA. Love Griffith. If I'd of known you were out here, we coulda met up. I'm assuming you're back home now as you're showing processed images, unless you do all that on the road.

We did, and we could have met up, however we only spent a day in LA, most of which was spent on the beach, otherwise we spent a large amount of time in SF. I am back now, while I did edit a large chunk on the road, I did it merely to see how they'd turn out. I'm redo-ing everything at home.

We did get as far as San Diego though

Daggah, those last 3 are all great! Love that great non-distorted 14mm of the sky-scraper. I'm a little surprised you'd be shooting with the OM-D when you have the D800/14-24 option as well. What's the story behind that?
