Notch's Housewarming Party

This guy's got enough money to make any woman not care how many cameras he's got set up in the bedroom.

So basically, he's just another douche who feels compelled to show off everything he has the moment he strikes it rich.

This is why I have so much respect for people like Gates. I've never seen that guy flaunt anything. I've seen him get hit in the face with pies and cure diseases, but he's never shown off.

Good for him!! I am really happy that this guys is able to live the American dream to it's fullest. He earned every dime.

Better yet, guys got enough sense that he divorced his wife before he sold to Microsoft! I'm not sure how Swedish divorce courts work though, hopefully not anywhere as retarded as they do in the US where his wife would be considered an "owner" of the game just because she married him.

Also wonder how he was taxed for the sale, I don't think he's an American citizen, and while I know Sweden taxes the crap out of your paycheck, not sure how it would tax this. Also not sure why he decided to move to Beverly Hills, but hey with that kind of money if he changes his mind no big deal if he takes a loss on this house :D

Can't say that I like his taste.
Except for the Ferrari I would gut the place and redecorate.

Heck, Warren Buffet is the same. He's lived in the same 5bd/2.5bath house since 1958.

about the same. Well, And the chocolate wall, and the glass foosball table. Those would definitely stay. Not enough black/silver for my taste, but he makes more money in interest daily than I will see in the next 20 years. He can afford to gut it and try again in a few days and not lose a dime.

I'll admit, if I have that much money, I would love to have a home with such a hilltop view too. Though I don't see the appeal of having such a huge home, or having expensive cars around just for display.

I hope the guy has a good portion of it saved away and properly invested, yeah I know he has lots, but still a lot of suddenly rich people (like many lottery ones) end up flat broke because they spend likes it's infinite.

Nice jacket douche. Hipster 2005 called and wants it back. He looks like a tool and the type that will blow it up his nose in no time.

Notch is wearing a red polo. The dude whose site these pictures are on is the guy in the jacket.

It's interesting to attack the clothing of someone out of jealousy regardless; you may want to check your self-loathing and just consider being happy for someone else who hit it big.

Haha the butt-hurt in this thread is making my day :D

Grats to Notch! Enjoy living the dream!

Fairly out of character for him, half of those people seem to be random celebrity assholes who get added to guest lists to make something seem more like an occasion (I highly doubt Selena Gomez knew who the fuck he is).

He'll be back to live streaming code projects and trying to reverse engineer Doom soon enough.

It's easy to attack Notch, call him names, etc and honestly, like some of you, almost left a negative comment. Honestly, it's his baby and he hit one hell of a home run. Take comfort in knowing that 95% of the people at that party are just like you and I.

I'm envious.

If I had all that money, I'd do the same thing. go on a shopping spree and stimulate the economy.

What the fuck else did you expect him to do? Give to charities, help the homeless, write you a check?

Grats to Notch. Aside from the poolside view I couldnt see myself living in a house like that. Sure I'd go on a buying spree, just different taste in "things I want"

im happy for him.

i rather see him in that house with all that money and property than some scumbag rapper or basketball player.

For real... while it may be common place for a software engineer to do well (think $100k-ish/annual well), it's extremely rare for one to come home with the kind of payday that negates the need to work. The guy helped take a novel idea, make it an international success, and managed to capitalize on it before the fickle gaming crowd got bored. If you are hating, it's because you are still slobbing it at a 9 to 5 like the rest of us.

Interesting how one creative guy attracts so many do-nothing parasites.

I hope he enjoys his fame and keeps his money safe from all those wanna-be's.

Bill Gates is an excellent example to follow.
I don't expect anything, but think about what good some of that money could do.

I think Notch does a good job in giving back to the gaming community. I believe he supports various Kickstarter project in the past. During ESA last year, an European speed running event, he donated 10k. And he did the same at this year's AGDQ speed running event.

Notch was fortunate enough to enjoy the "Zuckerberg Effect". He just got lucky! Stealing/acquiring/dreaming up the right idea to create the right product at the right time.

I've seen far more talented programmers stuck on dead end projects, which were far more technically superior to Minecraft, but didn't fly in the market place and crashed.

To paraphrase a quote from my old AD&D gaming group, about being lucky...

"Good dice rolling, will beat skill ANY day!"

My bad. I'm sorry to assume the guy featured in most pictures was Notch. Being that I've never played mine craft or cared about this self important quasi-celebrity, the guy on the jacket fit the bill.

On another note, I have a quite comfortable life and am not jealous in anyway. Just appeared to be another millennial acting foolish. I don't hero worship these fat guys (*cough gabe) like so many of you do.

ENjoy your money Notch!

On a side note , feels like the party at the beginning of silicon valley on HBO.

Huge amount of respect for Warren Buffet.

He even drove the same old car for something like 15 years.

I'm not suggesting that everyone with money race out and buy a Bugatti, but imposing limitations on yourself just to say you did it when you have plenty of money is just silly. Definitely invest well. Definitely give to good charities. Definitely try to make the world a better place if you can. If you have an attachment to your old home for sentimental reasons, buy all means keep living in it. However, why not pick up a new car? It doesn't have to be extravagant. Unless he REALLY just likes the car I guess.

I'm just saying it's ok to live a little, and get fun things if you have the means. Otherwise, why bother acquiring wealth in the first place? To pack it all away until you're too old to get any enjoyment out of it?

Maybe his views are completely different. That's fine. Maybe he spends it on something nobody knows about that brings him enjoyment. Maybe he just bathes in it like Scrooge MacDuck or something. Great. But people that hold back on some of life's luxuries just to say "Hey I'm rich and drive my piece of crap Datsun still, look at me." is silly. I really don't know much at all about Warren though, so this is all off the cuff. It seems to be a thing though with some. Even Bill Gates who is possibly one of the best philanthropists in the world drives a nice car, owns a nice house, etc.

*Meant "by all means" not "buy all means" but I guess that's kinda funny. :D

Oh, and go Notch!

(and on the fingernail thing, yikes!!!)

It's easy to say. But he DID it. He did it better and bigger and smarter than anyone else.
To claim anything else is just sour grapes.

Ever heard of the Porsche 959? He basically had US import laws changed so he could import what was at the time the fastest production car in the world.

Wikipedia said:
The "Gates 959" is an infamous car,[10] one of the pre-production Porsche 959's built in the mid-eighties, imported by Bill Gates to the United States in 1987. Gates' fellow Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen imported another one, as did Porsche collector Jerry Seinfeld. These cars had not been approved by regulators and had no Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency approval. The "Gates 959" was stored for 13 years by the Customs Service at the Port of Seattle, until regulations were changed to allow "Autos of Interest" to be imported with severe limitations on their use.[10] Gates and Allen both helped pass the "Show and Display" law.
