I'm looking at some older threads and it seems the price for a 4790k at microcenter was $250 in November. Now it shows $279?

Was it just for black friday?

It was all the way in December for $250 also. I think around the second week it went back up to $279 then. It has now stayed there at that price. I'm waiting also for the price to drop back down. Best Buy will match MC prices also. It is nice if you don't have a MC close by you.

Typically, and I say this because it really depends on the person working, but typically Best Buy will not PM a B&M store of which there is not one in the local area.

I think it was a 20 mile radius thing with Best Buy. But I have not seen them turn people away. But as always it just depends on who it is and what kind of day they are having. Some will help you and some act like they own the store and you are trying to take money out their paycheck for them doing it.

I have a Microcenter within 30 minutes so that's not a problem. I just wish I had picked up the chip back then since $250 is such a screaming good deal. I'll have to check on it every day for the next month or so and hope the price goes down.

I wish I had a microcenter near by. I paid $299 on amazon, great cpu though.

I need one also. I'm hoping they go back down soon also. Need a case, cpu and a nas box to finish my build now. Hopefully we can get one at a decent price soon. This was the deal here though at Frys.

Fry's Extended BF sale (Saturday) - Intel i7 4790K Haswell CPU - $239 after $100.99 email promo code, in-store only

It'll drop in price. I also picked up one for a friend's build in late December when it was $249.99. Just check Microcenter's website every day as the price fluctuates like crazy. I remember waiting for my 4770k for a couple of weeks until MC dropped the price to $249.99 in May of last year.

I was waiting for it to drop to $200 but I guess that's not happening. Guess my next upgrade will be a different platform

Ugh, I have a Fry's back home. Why is everything on sale when I don't need it.

I've read that the price periodically drops to $250 every couple months. i'm waiting for it myself.

Well, in a couple of months it will be an old chip won't it?

By then I'm hoping for a normal price of $230.

Well there is a bit of a monopoly problem here. Intel tends to pull older chips before dropping the price.

Got it also at $249 during black friday, best money spent on a cpu since. Upgraded a 3570k which wasn't a big leap but i have been itching for a hyper threaded i7 for awhile. Mine is currently OC'ed at 4.7ghz.
