Project Cars?

a 780ti is 2x faster than a 290x in this game?!

They are working on optimizing it for AMD cards. They have come a long way but there are still hurdles for them to cross. With that said, I'm not going to hold my breath that AMD performance ever catches up to Nvidia performance in this game.

I love this video of the helmet cam in Project Cars. Really great looking!

Will there be a non-steam retail version of the game or does it use steamworks as DRM now? I don't know if I should preorder on their website or wait for the steam store to start preorders.

Running g great on 2 gtx 980s in sli, everything g maxxed with a ton of cars I'm getting 70 to 100 fps @ 2560x1440

It seems they fucked it up. Then no project cars for me.
See quote above. I would wait for the retail version's release before making a definitive "no." The consoles run on AMD hardware, so they have had to done optimizations for AMD, if not straight port it to Mantle.

The game doesn't come out for another month. Unless there is some swag to go along with the preorder from their website, I would wait and see. It's not like they're going to run out of digital copies :p.

Render team lead announced that the game will have 7% more performance for Nvidia and 10% - 15% more for AMD users because of more optimizations soon. So it's still coming along. :)

I knew they couldn't polish it in the time period that they set for themselves. This is the best thing that ever happened! If they can get the render engine up to speed for AMD cards where they are still light years behind the comparable Nvidia products, then they might be onto something. The game is really good. But damn near unplayable when you turn on the weather and have an AMD video card. If they can rectify this then the wait will be well worth it.

It is disappointing to hear they can't get it out this year, but I am also happy that they're taking more time for extra polish. It's better they do this than be stuck with a broken game for 6 months like another certain title from a company that rhymes with rice...

what title?

played this today on an oculus rift. it was the first time a piece of technology honestly felt like "the future" to me.

I'm looking forward to trying OR once the technology matures a little. Hopefully, it will be widely embraced by the industry and not a niche product.

What do you guys think? Is Project Cars a good deal at $50 for the pre-order on Steam.

Well yes, the game has improved immensely since they announced they had delayed it for more polish. Hell there are actual settings now that I can get 70 - 80 fps in the rain on my system now! There is a ton of development on external apps that add to the racing experience.

I can fully recommend this game to everyone at this point in time.

Is it playable right now? What is the normal price on it for pre-purchase?

There is a physical Limited Edition that you can preorder if you like steelcases. $50 seems to be the going price for the digital limited edition preorder. I almost always see better deals just before launch if you look at shops like Greenmangaming. They haven't gotten around to listing it yet as the game's launch window is still a bit away.

Anyone else having trouble getting it to start? I haven't played in a while, waiting for my wheel, but I tried to play a couple times recently and have had no luck.

It'll start, but it hangs at the Bandai games splash screen until I alt-tab. Then I can log in and select free practice, and a car, and track, but when I go to start it goes to the loading screen and just hangs forever. The data on the loading screen (where it should tell you the track, etc) is all blank (just the headings) and the music plays but it never advances. If I alt-tab out and end the program with task manager I still can't start it again because Steam says it is already running. So maybe there's a hidden service hanging it up somewhere? I have to reboot to be able to try to launch it again.

Game is up to date, and I tried verifying all files.

The lighting is better in DriveClub, but that doesn't matter when the real issue here is 30fps vs. 60fps.
DriveClub fails completely for that.

I don't think that DriveClub is trying to be a sim also. So it's two different animals. ;)

It did the same for me and I deleted my Project Cars folder in My Documents to fix it. Works perfectly fine after that.

Rain looks crap in pcars, but driveclub looks crap in clear weather. And I prefer racing in the dry anyway. So this doesn't move me much.

So what. That video just proves that the rain is realistic in PCARS and that it is more aesthetically pleasing in Driveclub. I'll take the realism, thank you.

Just sharing what was around - not a DriveClub fanboy trying to pick a fight :)

It reminds me of when Project Gotham was around, and the similarities/differences to Forza and GT.

I uploaded the raw 60 fps avi and not only does it look like shit; it is 30 fps now. Maybe I'll mess with it tonight and render it on my machine and then try again. Looks a thousand times more fluid and clearer in game than the travesty that Youtube posted.

If that trailer's any indication, maybe they should rename it to "Project Over-saturated Color".
