overclocking 2500K bsod124

Hey im not new to this forum but im new to overclocking.

I think that my system is old enough and i wanted to give it a boost.

i5 2500K
Asus Rog Maximus-IV Gene-Z
Thermalright truespirit 120M
Asus GeForce GTX 570
2x4GB G-Skill 1600 1.5v
Antec TruePower 750W

So i went into this beautiful bios started to mess with these settings
i knew that my setup can take 46 multiplier without any problems so i started with that

Multiplier : 46
BCLK : 100
Vcore 1.35
Pll overvoltage off
Intel speedstep off
ram voltage 1.5

i ran prime95 small ftt for couple hours without any errors
idle temps 32c
prime95 temps 70c

the only thing that bug me out is that i get random bsod while watching youtube videos
bsod 124

i know this could be vcore related as the bsod 101(low vcore)

any other settings i had to mess around that i forgot. otherwise the system look strong while playing video games.

Thanks for any help. i don't know if 46 multiplier is nice for this gaming rig if i can go higher or stay as is.
 
update I also get bsod 124 while running prime95 blend after a minute of running it.

I am on a vanilla installation of windows
 
What is your load line calibration threshold at?

Also, I would just bump the Vcore up top like 1.38 just to see if it is stable in P95. YOu might just a not so great chip.

Why would you think that? Have you had it running stable at that speed before? Every chip (and board) is different. I have a 2500K and it needs a lot of voltage to sustain 4.6 and just makes 4.7 if I push it. I run it at 4.4Ghz day to day because it will do that without any extra voltage. There are some that won't even get over 4.2. Don't assume that you can get a specific overclock just because someone else has.

Start low, get it stable then work up. Apply voltage as needed but don't go nuts. The idea that a chip can definitely handle a specific clock speed without any testing has killed a lot of chips.
 
That's a pretty hefty overclock, likely above average.

I don't know how different the 2500k is vs my 2600k, but my chip runs stable at 4.65 with a slight bclk bump. and 46 multi.
I had to do plenty of tweaking, and slight voltage boost to obtain that.

No matter what I do, it won't run stable at 4.7 or above.


You should have started with a much lower overclock and worked your way up.
look for an overclocking guide for your board/chip. that should help alot, but don't expect to just automatically get 4.6 just like that.
 
Start at Multi 40 and work your way up. I don't remember the sweet spot for those chips off hand, but 42-44 might work at that vcore.
 
I'd just back it down some till it's stable. Mine does 4.5 and I don't remember messing with the volts. I'd have to check and see what my settings were.
 
yeah sorry ended up at 4.6 for 1.395volts and my brother decided to back down to 4.5 at 1.35 both setup are stable now and temps never go past 72c on 100% load but in real life in never go past 50c
 
That's cool 4.6 is pretty good. I never tried higher than 4.5. I had found a guide on overclockers I think about recommended settings and put those in and it worked fine. Ran all the test and it held. I left it alone after that. I guess I'm just not to super adventurous once I find a formula that works.
