Looking for a game like Skyrim but maybe better, i am resinstalling skyrim but having second thoughts about playing it due to the buggy nature of it, so any suggestions? My criteria is the following listed below. So any suggestions would be great, my system specs are listed in my sig for what my system can handle.

. At least 100hrs or more at a casual level
. Possibly modding, not on the top of my list
. Good character creation with a good amout of customization
. Rich Story and compiling characters.

Yeah DA:I fits all your criteria except the mod part, they are starting to trickle in but they have not released a tool kit.

Plus it looks pretty impressive.

I really liked Dragon Age Origins, and I really look forward to DA:I, of course when the cost comes down, as I am still playing through my back log.

Will echo the group here:

DA:O
DA:I

Inquisition is much more similar to Skyrim I found as the environments are large whereas it's kind of follow the primrose with DA:O. The box not checked with DA as modding is not possible.

Dark Souls 2 is cool but you might not like the challenge

I don't mind challenge since i came from the atari/nintrndo age, but Dark souls doesn't look like my kinda game , but thanks for the input :) Also to those who said Dragon Age, i might have to look into that, i have been checking it out but the tactic system seems odd to me but i guess you get use to it.

you dont need to use the tactics system at all and can play it like an action rpg

I would give The Witcher 2 a try. May not make 100 hours, but it has great character development and the story it top notch.

But it lacks the most basic thing I want in an RPG, a character creator.

You're stuck with the character you given whether you like it or not. And I hated him so much I couldn't even get myself to finish the damn game.

@OP

You didn't specify if the game had to be fantasy. So I'd add Fallout 3: New Vegas.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are pretty good. There are relatively few "Bethesda-like" RPGs out there. DA:I is more open world, but there really aren't many games in a similar vein or genre to Bethesda RPGs.

Sorry, i prefer fantasy, i have tried Fallout 3 and NV and couldn't put up with the bugs and the severly bad animations, Also in NV you cannot be a evil character no matter how hard you try, you keep on helping people and keep on getting good karma.

Why not? Just asking since I it's extremely popular and many seem to love it more than Skyrim. Many of my friends have put 200+ hrs into Dark Souls 1 & 2 each.

Well the whole locked at 30FPS thing turns me off, also everyone says that the game didn't take them that long, i work with 2 guys and they rushed right thru it in no time, but if there is 200+ hours of play then i might try it, still the whole 30FPS thing :( .

Well you can beat Skyrim in about 6 hrs I think, certainly less than 10. Just depends on the player I suppose. It will easily take you at least 40-50 hrs normally. New Game+ (or ++ or +++) keep most players going. Keep building up your character/items but the enemies get harder and harder each NG+.

I have never heard of Game + before, do have to unlock it or is it an option when starting a new game?

It's a little different depending on the game that have NG+. For Dark Souls it's pretty much taking your characters, stats, weapons, armor and items and starting from the beginning. For many the “real” game is NG+. Better loot, enemies scale, some new things to discover and deeper PvP combat.

i have never beat skyrim... or its expansions.. kinda sad when you think about it i always put off doing the story and then never got around to it.

The main storyline in Skyrim (and most other games of that nature) isn't that great or that long so you didn't miss much. My wife always ends up in that situation. She'll go bonkers for side quests and then get bored with the game before getting anywhere with the actual plot of the game.

Morrowind with that overhaul 3.0 mod. Much better than Skyrim.

Anyone who is rushing through Dark Souls and beating it in under 40 hours is doing it wrong. I have over 50 hours in on 1 character and I still havnt finished all the DLC content and moved on to NG+ yet.

Also if you use DSFix, which there is no reason you shouldnt, you can unlock it to 60FPS.

This. I always have a copy of Morrowind with MGSO 3.0 installed. I always find myself going back to it.

I keep wanting to do this, but I can't find my copy of morrowind (probably because it was thrown away). I don't want to pirate it (and believe me, I have no qualms doing that in many situations), but I also don't want to pay more than ... $5 for it, since i've bought it once already. Laziness, Apathy, and Cheapness all rolled into one. Chances are I'd never get into it again given those attributes I've leveled so highly.

I read that, and thought, "Surely you can get it for $5 on Steam." Took a look, nope, still $20. Though it looks like you can pick up a physical copy of the GOTY version on Amazon for $10. I still have my GOTY box, I don't think I'll get rid of it ever.

actually a pretty good deal, i would pick it up my self but i only have $23 in my checking atm lol.

i would pick it up my self otherwise.

wouldnt mind seeing my old Cliff Racer friends again it has been years since i played it.

the sad part is i still remember where all the item locations are in my head photographic memory of that game. like the chameleon ring at the bottom of a pond i would make a dash for at the start of every game to get my thief on. so many good memories of that game.

Morrowind came out when retail stores still carried disk-based PC games. You might find cheap copies at Gamestop and/or stores like Besy Buy and Target.
I think I still have my disks somewhere. Not sure about the remastered version, but the original one might be the 2nd most brown game of all time behind Quake.

The GOTY version isn't any different graphically, from what I'm aware of. It was just a re-release with the 2 expansions released.

Either way $10 is easily worth it, especially for a game that is miles ahead of Oblivion and Skyrim.

How about Gothic III ? The most common complaint is the combat, but it is a massive open world action rpg. It is played in 3rd person and has a lot of old world European looking environments. The game has a TON of mods for it, to the point of almost remaking the game. It's kinda of an odd duck, but if you take to it there is hours and hours of content ready to soak up your time, lol!

Gothic 3 was a bit of a buggy POS at launch, but a ton of patches by the community and subsequent mods improved that a lot. It's certainly not a bad game at all, once patched.

Yea the community patch is a must, just to get the game so it runs properly, the stock game is a shambles. Plus they added a boatload of content like graphics upgrades and game balancing options. Gothic 3 is not for the faint of heart, nor the impatient. But if you can roll with the flow, it brings a lot to the action rpg table.

Guess I'm lucky. Didn't find elder scrolls or the fallout games buggy at all.

Outside of those you can try:

Dragon Age series
Mass Effect series
Dark Souls

Or you could go old school and get Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

Popped in to say DA:I.
Its pretty damn big and has plenty drawing me back in to play it.
It has a strong storyline that is hard to miss.
A bit dangerous if you cant get to sleep because its not a way to tire yourself out, way too more-ish.
Feck, its 4am and I want to fire it up. Eek.
Think I'll fondle the puss cats instead but that can cause sleepless kitty syndrome, fingers crossed...

Edit
feeling pussy didnt help, I never did get back to sleep, cos DA:I.

Yaaaaaaaaaaawn!

You're asking for a game that doesn't exist. In fact if such a game existed we wouldn't be j-king off here on the forum spoonfeeding nubs... we'd all be too busy playing it.

Dragon Age:Inquisition comes close, other than that the wait is on for Witcher 3.

Yeah i forgot 2014 hasn't been a great year for games, but one can hoe that some dev will realize that people want a game like that.

I wouldn't recommend the dark souls series. I played it before skyrim and the melee combat system in DS is so superior that it will ruin you for other games. I can't play skyrim now, combat is just terrible.

Not sure how much it meets your requirements but I really enjoyed Kindoms of Amalur. Regularly goes on sale and is well worth the money IMO. Kind of reminded me of a single player MMO.
