Why would you hack a news outlet? Could you imagine how boring a CNN hack would have been?

The Intercept has obtained an FBI alert noting that the group implied threats against a "news media organization" on December 20th. While the bulletin doesn't name the company, The Desk's Matthew Keys has copies of the Pastebin-based messages (since removed) showing that CNN was the target. The GOP sarcastically complimented CNN on its "investigation" of the hacking group and linked a video calling the TV network an idiot, but didn't warn of any specific consequences.

Oh dear god I would LOVE to see a hack of FOX news network. Can you imagine.. then we would see they do entertainment first.. news second!!

I second that.

You are an idiot.

You REALLY don't think that Fox news sensationalizes crap for entertainment purposes and to rile people up? If you truly believe that you really should buy some of this future ocean front property I am selling. It will be a great investment for you!

While unethical, I don't see a hack of a major media outlet (FOX, CNN, etc.) as being boring.

I'd be very, very interested to know e-mail chains that showed clear bias in reporting, favoring things like political sides, one side or the other of a hot-button issue (e.g., police brutality, Ebola), emotion-tugging vs. fact/science, etc.

I mean, we all believe it's done to some extent, but having it proven in print would tarnish a media outlet for a long time. If it happened to a few of the biggies, maybe it would actually clean up some of the yellow journalism and "if it bleeds, it leads" crap that goes on.

Every top main stream news station does that bud. Fox news isn't really the worst one.

You REALLY think every other news outlet does not do the same?

News is a business, they will do or say anything to get more profit.

I have read CNN for years, I can almost predict their MO for selecting stories.

Basically anything racially charged or that will generate gun control debate they will jump all over. Recently (within the last 6 months) they have started to disable comments on these stories which I believe is related to the fact that many of the comments started to weigh against the slant of the articles being published.

Unfortunately we don't currently have unbiased media in the U.S. so we are forced to use the outlets available to us and draw our own conclusions. May the best spin doctor win.

You really think Fox is the only media outlet that does that? If so that property you have for sale is what you bought from me.

The problem is that most of the major news media are all essentially owned by a handful of corporations who are in bed with the government. So despite having the so called free press, the realities is that none of the major news media are anywhere near free. The only difference between them and the news organization in places like say China is only a matter of degree of state control.

Fox news is usually the target of liberal attacks but very few if asked actually go to fox news to read their stories, everything they know about Fox is really hearsay from their media of choice. That being said, my impression of Fox is that they are biased, but no more so than say CNN or MSNBC or Nytimes etc. People need to really start listening to the other side, you might actually find that you personally don't really belong along that left-right paradigm.
