Blizzard: Olympics Should Include Esports

It's preposterous that they called an activity a "sport" in the first place.
They have Texas Holdem on ESPN, that makes it a sport, right? Or think about how old and fat you can be and still golf or bowl just fine? And whats that thing where you just hurl a puck on ice that hosers play? Curling or whatever...

And as someone said... the air-pistol Olympic shooting.

Not everything has to be physically strenuous to meet their current standards, and we have a separate Olympics for tards, so just call ours the "Special Gamer Olympics", and expectations will be set appropriately. :D

They they rid themselves of wrestling I lost all respect... Go ahead put gaming in there.:(

The Olympics are about exhibiting physical prowess. What is it about pressing keys and moving a mouse millimetres around that makes it worthy for such a competition?

Try actually competing at that level before making ignorant statements. Playing games at the pro level in no way compares mentally and physically to sitting on your couch playing CoD with your bros.

That aside as much of a supporter of esports as I am I wouldn't even agree with this. Esports has no place in the olympics and for that matter a number of the events in there already don't belong either. I strongly believe the olympics should be kept to the "Traditional" olympic sports only.

Aside from sitting in a chair hunched over a keyboard, how is it really different? It's not like people who are trying to make a living out of playing games are standing up or running while they're getting all bloodshot and stinky looking at a screen. I know they _want_ people to think what they're doing is difficult or matters, but there's a pretty big increase in risk and effort needed to learn how to say, swim competitively, play soccer, or do gymnastics (even not at any kinda Olympic-competitive level) versus moving a mouse and poking keyboard buttons. So before you make assumptions about the amount of effort needed to be athletic, try competing a little.

As I said, try and actually do it. I've played sports and I've also gamed at a fairly high level though never quite good enough to go pro. They are far more exerting at that level then those of you who's only experience is limited to casual at best can even comprehend. But as I said, I even agree that they have no place in the olympics.

This is the single dumbest thing that a Blizzard employee has ever said. Why not have an Olympic typing champion also?

yeah the Olympics are supposed to represent competition on a physical level, there are a few oddballs though, like Curling

What a stupid idea. Despite what some people would have you believe, the "skill" required to play video games is no where close to what is required of Olympic level athletes.

The last thing I want to do is sit and watch other people play video games.

If you are interested in the game itself then it can be enjoyable. Fans of basketball play basketball and watch basketball, fans of x video game play x video game and watch others play x video game, it's the same thing.

You're comparing apples to pancakes. Any activity can be entertaining when one person stands above his peers in that activity. Is the best gamer going to be able to compete against the best runner? Is the best runner going to be able to compete against the best weight lifter? Can the best weight lifter compete against the best chess player? The answer is most likely No, because they are different activities, but where they are all the same is in individuals of a certain expertise competing against one another to show that they are the best. Ultimately, we're looking at different ways of tickling that same low level animal instinct. Who gives a shit how it's done, all that matters is whether or not you find it entertaining, and if you don't, you don't watch it.

Goodluck paintball has been trying for a decade now. Atleast that actually requires physical activity./

I vote we remove any of the shooting competitions out of the olympics, too.
Shooting still requires physical agility.

Mental and physical stress is not uniform between people. If it was my only source of income then I could understand the pressure of needing to perform well. But just because it's stressful does not mean it qualifies as an Olympic sport.

I'd fine with e-sports in the Olympics as long as we're talking about Quake or Starcraft.

Might as well include rolling dice as a sport in there if they're going to use LoL or some other RPG kind of game.

I can't tell if you are kidding or not.

Many olympic events require the mental capacity of a chimpanzee, and they are far more about the training and musculature of the individual, with next to zero thought involved.

Or are you really trying to convince us that the creative thinking, strategies, and fast mental responses of the top Starcraft II players is somehow LESS mentally challenging than someone that runs as fast as he can or jumps far.... lmao!

Too mentally challenging, can't do it.
