Asus GTX 970 Strix (Open Box) $284

Not bad if you could combine with masterpass (newegg mobile) for $15 off to get price to $265.

With all the people who return cards for low OCs or coil whine, it makes me wonder if anything is wrong with it.

I got a Open Box 980 Strix from NewEgg just last week for $450. It came in a plain white box, but did not appear to be a refurb (OEM card perhaps?). I contacted Asus who verified it's warranty was good until 2017. No coil whine noticed and OC's game stable to 1508/8000 at 1.2v.

Update: I did contact NewEgg about the Pick your path code and they agreed to send it to me even though my purchase was open box.

I've bought a number of open box items from Newegg and never had any issues.

I bought this exact card at microcenter open box for a tad less. They gave me the free game. Although, this card has Hella annoying coil whine. If almost sounds broken but what ever it works. I might look for an old antec p180 quiet case. It is super cool temp wise and makes no fan noise when I'm just watching videos. It is weird that the fan doesn't even turn on until there is a decent load.

Just an update:

got this card saturday morning (!!!!)

put in atleast

5-6 hours of dragon age inquisition @ 1080p ultra
2-4 hours of team fortress 2 @ 120fps

Have yet to hear the fans spin on this thing let alone any coil whine!

Just got my 2 cards. When I first put them in they were giving me red flickering in SLI. Removed both cleaned the connections, and now both are working great no coil whine at all. Both came in a white box.

^^ If you haven't already, you should contact newegg support and ask nicely for game code(s). They hooked me up, even though it was white box.

Nice :D!!!!! Grats.

Nice score!! Even with the fans running mine are exceptionally quiet. These are some nice cards even though they don't oc quite as high as the MSI or Gigabyte. The build quality is top notch and they just sip power.

I picked up a pny 970 off dells website for $300 right before christmas. Wish i had of waited for this

In stock for the moment...

Still in-stock, shame I don't need one :(. No masterpass or visa checkout discounts available that I know of offhand at the moment, but still well worth biting on then getting the game code once it ships :D.

Back in stock.

I received mine a week ago and it does have coil whine but it's barely audible except when running Furmark, Valley or other stress test. In games it's nearly silent. Sounds more like a fan spinning at low or medium RPM rather than a high-pitched whine. I wear headphones so it's not an issue for me.

Edit: out of stock again :(

I read something somewhere that the infamous coil whine can be remedied by bumping up the OC and voltage? Any truth?

Have a Gigabyte 970 in my cart waiting for my build next month.

It can help the noise for some configs by changing the current going though the coils, it isn't a fix all. And for some people it makes the problem worse.
