Witcher 3 delayed till 19 may

Clearly they haven't been paying attention to the AAA devs on how to save money on QA

Amateurs :D

The game is feature complete and they are just stomping bugs?

It's called Alpha ...

Witcher 3 delayed to polish and properly bug test the game equals win for developer, publisher and consumers.

While I definitely agree that delaying the game for bug-fixing and optimization purposes is definitely a good thing, I really hope that people don't misinterpret that or construe it as meaning, "We're going to release a perfect game."

There is no such thing as a perfect game, and there will still be some bugs. It's inevitable, but I'm sure it will be a very, very solid game with very few major bugs, unlike what we've seen so far with AC:U, FC4 and DA:I.

Just please, don't get your panties in a bunch and grab the pitchforks when the game is released and still has a bug or two. No piece of software is perfect.

Pretty disappointing that it's getting delayed for another three months but CDPR is one of few game developers that actually deliver quality games. I don't see this delay being anything less than absolutely necessary. Gives me more time to go through another playthrough of TW2 :D

Beta.

Traditionally "Alpha" was reached when there was first a game for the testers to play. Once enough of the tools and engine and such had come together that there was actually something to play, and not just some isolated tests. "Beta" was when feature completeness was reached. At that point, new features were generally not added, unless something came up, just bug fixing, including balance and gameplay. Some companies also had a "Release Candidate" phase which meant "a beta we think is good to go" which would then go live if no problems were found, or another would be released if problems were.

Lately it seems that "Alpha" means "We don't have anything but an engine and some basic models, but we'd like your money anyhow," "Beta" means "incomplete, buggy, and under development for an indeterminate amount of time," and "Release" means "We spent all the time and money we want to, here's the game, bugs and all."

:p
