My new 1080p 60" TV (LG PB 6650) is within 15 feet of my computer desk. It occurred to me it would be great to play PC games on it.
My video card is an EVGA GTX 6600 (2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 Display Port) connected to a 24" Acer G245HQ but it's DVI only. I'd be willing to get a new monitor with HDMI because it's my understanding that one cannot use HDMI and DVI at the same time with a GTX 6600, and only an HDMI connection would carry sound to the TV's speakers. Are my assumptions correct, and would it be possible to switch on-the-fly between TV and new HDMI monitor? Thanks.

Do you mean the GTX660? There's no such thing as a GTX6600.

According to NVidia's own spec page the card can run four displays simultaneously. So simply run a HDMI cable from the PC to the TV.

FWIW, I've never had an issue with simultaneously running DVI and HDMI on my GTX670.

Also look through that tv's menu it probably has a game setting for better response rate, my older LG 5500u has one.

You can have the monitor and TV running at the same time (mirrored), extended (where they run as independent screen spaces), or just one display at a time. The video card will have no problem running DVI and HDMI at the same time. If you don't hear sound from the TV, don't panic - go into the sound settings and make sure to set the TV as the default audio output.

@BlueLineSwinger, doh, it's a gtx 660 (used to own a GT 6600 years ago), and also don't know where I got it in my head that HDMI and DVI are incompatible together. Thanks.

i use a tv near my pc, and i alternate back and forth with a touch of a button (between an hdmi tv and a dvi monitor) using eventghost:
this screenie might be helpful to you if you are into that sort of htpc thing.

(i use a built in windows exe, and command line switches)
(also for amd crossfire, i cant use both simultaneously in 3d mode, so i cant leave it in mirrored)
(the audio switches are accomplished with ffdshow audio automatically)

Thanks. I'm hoping to be able to a switch between computer monitor (DVI) and plasma TV (HDMI) with my GTX 660 video card through Nvidea control panel. The responses here so far lead me to believe that's possible.

Not sure whereabouts in the world you are but if you're in North America, look at monoprice for some cheap cables. (if you don't want the ultra thin ones they have "normal" hdmi cables for cheaper)

Thanks. I've just saw a 15' HDMI cable for $6 on BUZZILLIONS, and on eBay there's one for $5. But I've been disappointed before with cheap cables that are DOA.
I just got one for $12 - "Amazon Basics"
