Samsung F8500 $1000 + tax.

Not a bad deal. Taxes could kill it though. I love my Pioneer Elite. I prefer plasmas over LCD. To each their own, of course.

Horrific input lag on the 8500 series, nearly 400 ms, so unusable for games. The best bet right now is the PN60F5300b, which has the same black levels as the 64h5000, and far better than the A version. $699

When I went to BB yesterday for mine, the boy-salesman insisted they sold A models, even pointing to the sales tag. I insisted too, that he go back and look at the box. They're indeed B models at BB right now.

Samsung stopped making in November, and so it will be LCD pie for breakfast, lunch and dinner until OLED's are affordable. Three years maybe?

I have this plasma in my bedroom. I don't notice any lag when gaming on it. The picture quality is tits too.

Not sure if you play fps games, but nearly 400ms would cause any such player to give pause.

I have the 60", great TV. Played many console games without issue, currently playing Destiny/PS4 on it. Enjoy!

I love a good sammy plasma. It is a shame they are not making them anymore.

I have a pn64d7000 that im rocking. Hopefully I'll get another 4-5 years out of it. By that time a good oled should be sub $2k.

If you really care about picture quality, I would jump on one of these before they are all gone.

I tried to jump on BB's plasma deals last week, but none available in my area.

I'd get one from Amazon if I wanted another Plasma. My local BB has them in stock as well.

I'm going to hold out and replace our 65" DLP with a 75" Samsung 4K curved after the new year.

the link you posted to says it has roughly 120ms without game mode, and 80ms with game mode.

Still bad, but not nearly as horrific as the numbers you posted.

Hmm. The footnote on the screen shot is as you say, but the screenshots show 315 and 481, so it's confusing.

Anyway, it's not for twitch gaming, but the picture is arguably the best available right now.

It is like buying vcr at this point. I wouldn't recommend this to even my enemies.

 This Plasma has better PQ than any LCD on the market so as long as you are willing to live with some minor drawbacks. Only thing I'd consider better is an OLED but that's around 2-3x the price.

On input lag, I've heard it's around 50ms when PC mode is enabled (not the same thing as Game mode).

Yep right now for image quality this is really all there is.

OLED will need time to mature and settle down.

OLED prices are high,
Currently most makers push OLED with 3840x2160 resolution further increasing the price. And may force you to upgrade many components or upscale.
Current inputs limit 3840x2160 to 30 or 60 hz and will for a while
OLEDs also often come curved.

So it will be some time before the OLED you want comes in the configuration you want for the price you want. In that time who knows what will happen. Lots of us myself included were screwed when LCDs hit and we missed getting good CRTs. It took over a decade for LCDs to mature to the point where they were not horrible. If we are lucky we will see some good OLED in 3 years otherwise who knows how long. Until then this is about as good as you can get for $1000.

Its a tv. I'm pretty sure content will still be available for it during its useful life (5-10 years). I'm still rocking a 42" 1080i Samsung DLP in my bedroom that I got in 2006.

Sounds like you know absolutely nothing about TVs.

For those interested in actually learning something, I believe The Wirecutter does a pretty good job of explaining the current state of the market.

I'm so thinking about taking back my Sceptre U500CV-UMK 4K TV that I got at Walmart for this unit. Only deal is that this Samsung is $1000, my Sceptre was $400. Also the slow game mode on the Samsung, even though I don't really game. I hear that renaming the last HDMI to PC drops the latency down to 50ms. How is that in terms of TVs? Is that doable or still too much latency?

$1000 Plasma at the end of it's era as 4K arrives. Doesn't sound like a smart move but purchasing one of the best plasmas ever until OLED is under $1k doesn't seem like a stupid move either.

I NEED SOME CONVINCING!!!

Also how about this compared to the Samsung PN60F5300 for $200 less? This TV isn't as great all the way around, but larger for cheaper. What is your thoughts?

You're looking at the right TVs. Get the f5300b model, since it's every bit as good as the h5000 in terms of black levels. It's a steal.

I think what happened was this: Samsung was ramping down production of plasmas and had to figure out how to make the most of the parts they had on hand by assembling as many TVs as possible. They probably ran out of A model boards, but likely had ones for the H5000 that they could use.

For B model calibration numbers, go here. The picture will blow you away!

Honestly, even the lower model Samsung plasma's are damn good TV's. Picture quality is still amazing. You just won't have smart, 3D and some processing features. It'll still blow away LCD in terms of black levels and quality. I'd say get one.

I'm really bummed plasma is a dead format. I wouldn't trade the ones I have for anything.

Just an FYI, it shows up as in stock online, but for many people it says the item isn't available for delivery or store pick up farther into checkout.

You WANT a nice plasma. 4k is still 2-3 years away from being able to really catch on. There is simply not enough NATIVE 4k content to justify it.

All regular led tv simply can not reproduce the warmth of colors that a good plasma can.

My advice it buy the best plasma you can afford and hope it'll last you until OLED is cheap enough.

The problem with 4k summed up perfectly:
There are a number of reasons why you shouldn’t consider a 4K TV just for the sake of it being 4K.

The first problem is there’s very little 4K “Ultra HD” content yet. Yes, Netflix and Amazon have a few programs available in 4K, but that’s only if you have a fast enough connection (that’s not being throttled) and you pay a bit more for the privilege. Sony has the $700 FMPX10, which gets you access to the majority of the available 4K content. However, to get actual movies and TV shows that aren’t on Netflix, you need to buy them. Prices are a bit more than regular HD movies/shows from iTunes and Amazon. Samsung has the $300 UHD Video Pack hard drive/media player that is pre-loaded with 10 movies and 30 documentaries, but it only works with Samsung TVs. The PS4 and Xbox One don’t have the hardware to support true 4K gaming. So the only other 4K content you can get is via a high-end PC connected to your TV, and even then 4K gaming isn’t quite the wonder you’d expect.

The next problem is that the claims about an increase in picture quality due to the increase in resolution are somewhat dubious as well. Your eye has a limited “resolution.” The example I like to use is sitting in the sand at the beach. You can see the grains of sand beside you, but can you still see the individual grains of sand out past your feet? This is the issue with 4K TVs. Your eye can’t resolve the increased resolution in anything but large screen sizes. I mean really large. Our own Chris Heinonen has an excellent 4K calculator to determine if you’ll get any benefit going with a higher-than-HD resolution display. Basically, if you’re sitting where most people are (9 or 10 feet from your TV), then you’ll need way more than a 70-inch TV before you even start to see a difference.

Yeah I ended up with the 51" and it's looking like probably my best purchase.

I went through two stages:
1) Ignorance - bought a cheap 50" LG from Microcenter.
A couple hours later (and noticing the 'grays' and lack of blacks) I check online reviews. It has abysmal black levels - and now the price makes more sense lol. Returned quickly.

2) With emphasis on black levels, I try the Sony W700 (cheaper Best Buy variant of the W800B).
Great black levels and great input lag - and it was (tested the night of the purchase watching Walking Dead, where 90% of the episode is at night).

Unfortunately, the viewing angles were an issue - and I never realized how much I took it for granted until I got a Sony LED. Mind you I'm accustomed to IPS/VA panels on my desktop, so I don't have much tolerance for the TN nonsense any more.

Sadly, returned this as well.

3) Finally - after much chagrin, I moved to the F8500.
Yes, the input lag is higher than the Sony. But overall, my HDTV consumption is movies/sports first and foremost. I recently got a WiiU, but it's not for twitch shooters haha. I have my PC/Catleap 2B for that.

So yeah, caveat is if this is a family or living room HDTV, I don't think the input lag issues is as big a deal for us. This is [H] - I would think are primary platform is still going to be PC. And if that's the case, our monitors have usually been better than our TVs to begin with haha.

4) I will probably revisit OLEDs, but years from now.
4b) I looked for a non-gouged price of a used Panny, but was never satisfied. Thus, the next best thing are the Samsung F8500s :p

I'm in the same boat currently, but shopping for a general purpose TV for the living room. It won't be used for any critical viewing, but I'm having to choose between good blacks (VA) or good viewing angles (IPS).

Leaning toward the later right now, but know the blacks are going to be lacking.

I wouldnt hesitate to order one from Amazon.

I bought my 64" plasma through them. The delivery company broke one and another arrived defective. Amazon gave me 0 hassle about swapping the broken and defective one out.

I would not hesitate either, but Amazon was about $1000 more IIRC.

I been to a couple SoCal stores, none have these in stock. They do have the 64" floor model on sale but at $2400. Plus who wants a floor model plasma anyways?

Some Costco's still have the PN60F5350BFXZA if interested.

Man I missed this deal by a few hours and have been on the lookout since. I sure hope they will bring some back in stock at this price, my dad would have loved this thing. Perfect gift for him.

Back in stock at bb right now. Just ordered one, jump on this if you didn't get a chance the first time.

Looks in stock! But I think I'm going with the cheaper 60" for $699. I seen in store and it looks pretty good for the price.
