Would you buy curved monitor instead of flat?

Assume the price, size, panel and everything else are the same, the choice is between curved and flat. Which one would you choose?

Of course it is primarily about bigger monitors where the curvature effect is more pronounced.
 
Depends very heavily on the size of the monitor. If the monitor was something like ultra wide, i'd go curved, otherwise flat for normal 16:9 or 16:10.
 
if it was fucking giant and had good refresh rates and was x10 instead of x9 yeah
 
21:9, probably curved, but I think only for 34" & up; 29" might not benefit from it much.

I'm eyeing the U3415W, actually, but it depends on what sale prices end up at.
 
Considering that I need a Flat to put the Curved Monitor in I'd probably start with the Flat. (heh)

On the real topic I think that the curved monitors/tv's are more of a gimmick that anything else and would definitely get a flat monitor over a curved.
 
A bendable display that can be (un)curved at will would be great, something like flexible OLED.
 
For gaming, I definitely would. And the larger and wider the better.
 
If it was wide enough, yes.I'd say anything 30" (horizontal) and wider would be nice with a slight bend.

Here's hoping for curved 4k OLEDs.
 
Curved with curvature matching usual PC viewing distance (unlike anything on market today).
 
Anything above 30" I'd prefer curved.

But that's absolutly last point I'd care about in display after picture quality, refresh rate , strobing and variable refresh rate support.

I bought LG curved UC95 last week from my experience if i sit in the middle of the screen i will forget that the curved is there .

if you plan to use monitor only sit in the middle of the screen then you get the best out of the curved for immersive both game and movie . ( curved screen is more about the feel rather than see )

if for desktop use only i would prefer flat version.
 
Curved is great for a monitor seeing as a monitor typically only has one viewer in the center. Some people think it's a gimmick, but after doing a long direct A-B comparison between curved and flat I prefer curved.

I think the case of desktop monitor used with sitting not in the middle is quite rare. Could you elaborate more this contradiction: on one hand you say if you sit in the middle you forget the curve but on the other hand for desktop you would prefer flat. What makes the difference between flat/curved for desktop apps :confused:.

i said that because i have another monitor and i can't sit in the middle of the screen all the time when working on normal desktop . i turn around to work on another thing and the curved LG will be on my left with make the image goes distortion .( yesterday i have been working on curved but i did not sit in the middle as i have to do something else on another monitor also. i told my partner that i feel like car sick working on this curved all day )

my conclude is curved for game and movie ,Flat is for desktop use ( but if you plan just to sit in the middle then curved would work just fine with everything )

for me the point of curved is for immersion , you don't need to feel like image wrap around you for normal desktop use really but for the movie and game it will make more sense to it.

My advice to go to see one yourself in store as i am sure its a personal preference curved or not curved :)

I'm hoping my next monitor will be a curved display, it only really makes sense on a monitor an only if it is ultra wide.

It makes sense on a monitor as only one person views it, stupid for a TV with multiple viwers.

OK, this last sentence in brackets clarifies things. I can not even imagine having curved on side with flat in the center as it seems so unnatural. Curved must be in the center and watched from the middle otherwise is makes absolutely no sense to me. Unless, that is, somebody is surrounded by 3 curved monitors :D.

Absolutely. As my ultimate dream has shaped in the form of 40" curved I decided to wait till January to see what will be coming next year.

This is example how stupid intentions may result in positive outcomes. Makes no sense for TV but finds big sense for monitors; without the stupid TV push the technology would not be developed for useful curved monitors :cool:.
