Well that was fast  Still no word on availability, pricing or region (has a global product page, but like their 760 Mini, no US product page).

Too bad ASUS was too f'ing stupid to release this information a couple weeks ago when everyone was buying the Gigabyte ITX. I'm still very happy with mine, but might've waited to get rear vents and a nice backplate (if this is actually coming to the US).

Ehh, just like the Gigabyte its a bit taller than reference, which irks me.

Nice backplate, but the Gigabyte has nicer port options (and I wish it was a full blower card!).

Yes, it's the same taller ITX size as the new Gigabyte 970, and the old ASUS 760/670, MSI 760/270X, and Sapphire 285 Compact.. which of course, doesn't actually fit in quite a few different ITX cases. The short Galax would probably be a better choice, if that's an issue.

A fully enclosed blower ITX with 980 reference ports and vents would be sweet (so would an actual 980 ITX-sized card! :p)

Interesting cooling setup they have there. Looks like a radial cooler over the GPU and then more fins over VRMs, for the air that's getting blown in that direction?

I especially like that a lot of the companies doing this are going for single 8-pin PCIe power instead of 2x 6-pin.

Just installed one into my wife's ITX gaming box and its quiet and runs smooth.

I can verify that the Gigabyte card dumps some heat into your case. My heaven runs were similar with chip temps around 75° but the heat it dumped into the case made it hot to the touch. There's no room in my 4.2L build for a radiator, but I do need to upgrade the cooling. Does anyone know if it is possible to add a 3-pin 120mm fan to the GPU fan header and keep the dynamic fan RPM throttling? Or is full duty fan the only option?

Could you not plug a pwm 120 mm into your motherboard and set up some kind of fan curve?

Sure, but tied to what temperature? I have an Asus H97 Plus, and it only takes a temp in two zones.

Would love some thermistor pins on that board about now. Maybe I can research the stock GPU fan and voltage match it to a replacement? Hmmm.. a full duty 120mm is probably the best option I have now.

Spoke too soon my my wife's card. Just died after gaming all day yesterday on it. While she was playing WOW the monitor went into power save mode and would power on but no display. Checked cables and then eventually put in my test PCI Express GPU and sure enough her card decided to stop working.

Wait is this the Gigabyte? Damn, that sucks.

Damn you make me worried. I have a PNY GTX 970 and I voided the warranty by watercooling it. Hope it does not die anytime soon.
But atleast you got a Gigabyte, I've had very good experience with their RMA department.

Plenty of thoughts! I actually picked mine up from the post office this morning. Installed it earlier but haven't had time to test it much. Early impressions: I was right, the horizontal orientation of the fins coupled with that exhaust port has it dumping a decent amount of warm air out the back of my case.

It isn't as nice as a blower, but I'll take it. Also: metal shroud on that heatsink, not plastic like some other 970s. It has a buzz during some 3D stuff (unigine benchmark is all I've run so far) but has faded noticeably since I first heard it. Hoping it will be gone in a day or so.

I'll get a few pics and some more details posted tomorrow if I get a chance.

The Galaxy version looks like the twin windforce 750ti. That is what I would like to see Gigabyte do to the 970.

Not really short but not 9+ inches long either so just about right.

Posted impressions of the Galax(y) card here:

http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1041272317&postcount=26

Short version: some odd noises that may be coil whine, card is MUCH shorter than advertised (170mm PCB, 173mm at the heatsink shroud, a full 2cm shorter than Galax' website says), performs as expected, load temps are low 70s C, might need a reapplication of thermal goop but haven't checked under the heatsink yet.

I'm quite pleased with the purchase, will be even moreso if the odd noises continue to fade as they have since I first powered it up.

Thanks Deruber! Did you take any pictures of it installed?

My wish would be for a mini 980 card with lowered clock and voltage for best efficiency.

Nvidia never really releases a short-PCB version of their top tier cards (-80). I bet next year we'll have a short -60 equivalent that's a near rebrand of the short 970. Much like the 670 and 760.

Yah I know. The closest would be a 980 manually downclocked, bios editor for voltages, for the true low wattage freak.

Hello , i am considering to buy a GTX970 , i play at 1200p and i plan to remain to this resolution till 4K becomes mainstream and affordable .
My dilemma was to either go with 960 or 970 , but i think that 970 has better $$/performance ratio than the 960 and that i hope it will last 3-4 or even 5 years .

My case is the raijintek metis , so i cant go above 25cm . So i can only choose either ITX version of GB/ASUS or go with abit longer version of GALAX/ZOTAC .
Or even 960 and go straight to overclock

Which one would you recommend?
(the games i play are mostly MMOs , but when something good comes out , i will definately play it )

(note : my psu is be quiet SFX 400W , giving power to 12V1 ,17A and 12V2 ,16A , and with just 1 8pin connector available )

Say the Gigabyte model found its way into a mid-tower case. Open box $260, something like that. Can the fan speed be capped to reduce noise and still be cool? 74° instead of 65° means nothing to me.
