Since Oxford Dictionaries obviously picked the wrong word, I guess it's up to us to find a suitable replacement.

As 2014 draws to a close, it’s time to look back and see which words have been significant throughout the past twelve months, and to announce the Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year. Without further ado, we can exclusively reveal that the Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year 2014 is….vape

Still better than all the other choices. Plus I vape. Been smoke free for almost 3 years

Slowly.... I don't think it's that slow. My wife watches reality TV shows. I see shit posted on Facebook. I think we're pretty fucked. I don't see it much outside of that, as I work with a lot of knowledgeable people and interact with geeks. But, when I have to interact with my in-laws or other people, I can really see where we are headed.

Redneck Wedding (or whatever that show is) is becoming a reality.
 
I think they should put this under the definition of Oxford Dictionary:

I love my vape and all, but I really don't see how the heck "vape" got to be word of the year.
 
First time I've heard the word honestly and given it's competition I suppose it was the least retarded word in the list. Not like that is anything to brag about. That all said, if it results in me running into smoke less and less, whatever I support it.
 
I say we just say "smoke" and apply the same negative social pressure we use against tobacco smokers.

Agreed..I hardly ever see people "smoking" anymore, but the last 18 months or so the number of people I see with those retarted looking "vapors" seems to be going up.
 
As others have stated out society is getting dumber by the day. Then again big government wants it that way...

Negative social pressure? Like what lol... I mean aside from not being able to smoke indoors any longer, what kind of pressure you talkin about?
 
The problem is that addicted people, no matter what they're addicted to, have similar brain defects that permit such addictions. I think the bigger problem is that we don't, like, do something to figure this stuff out and then put better controls on who can have children and how many so that the good things that we want stay and the bad stuff that is broken or just dumb doesn't pass along those genes to more generations of themselves.

Well, I dunno about you, but if I see someone smoking, I'm a lot more likely to kinda shun them or avoid them so I don't have to smell their stink or deal with their addictions. I think a lot of people are like that, where they realize on some innate level, that smokers have something wrong with them and they'll avoid them. I hope it isn't like ridicule or other bad stuff like that because a lot of them really can't help it and aren't ever going to be able to fix it, but many of us who don't have those kinds of defects don't want to deal with those that do.

Smoking is a dying (literally - but slowly) thing and I really hope that society is moving away from that. The biggest problem with smokers isn't really an interpersonal thing since it's easy enough to just avoid or ignore them while staying outside their aura of disgusting odors -- it's really that when you buy used books from someplace like ebay, it's hard to tell if you're going to have to deal with the smell. I really wish that smokers would put that in their sales descriptions more often so everyone would know about it in advance and better people could just find the same book from a different seller. It's such a huge problem.
 
I guess Vape is cool .. until the FDA regulates e-cigs and liquid nicotine.

Then the word will die along with all those annoying shops all over town

True, and even being a smoker myself, I don't mind at all. I mean, i was sad that i couldn't go to sherrys anymore and smoke inside, but everyone else doesn't need or want all that second hand smoke. But I have a feeling I'm more considerate than most smokers when it comes to my habit. I know that people who don't smoke have a distaste for it.

Both you and the guy above you must be arrogant, uneducated assholes. Ecigs and "vaping" is real, delivers real nicotine and stops me from smoking real cigarettes. Its enjoyable, and LESS unhealthy. Anyone who says inhaling anything other than clean air is healthy is a moron. Why don't guys go fuck yourselves, or better yet, go fuck each other? Since when does everything have to be a fasion and accessory show?

I don't smell like smoke anymore since I don't smoke anymore, but I'm still addicted to nicotine. There's no way I could put myself in a situation to deal with someones texting addiction, alcohol addiction, masturbation addiction. The point is, LOTS of people have addictions. Grow a brain and stop being narrow minded. You won't have to deal with most peoples addictions unless you are so close you are sleeping together.
 
The narrow mindedness of people just completely blows my mind. One thing I will agree on, is just how fucked the world is.
