Nvidia 980/970 Availability Thread

I wouldn't hold my breath. Nvidia doesn't seem to be having problems selling the 970/980.

TigerDirect leaked the promo bundle a few days back but took it down shortly...so it's definitely happening, it's just a matter of when...and with AC: Unity coming out next Tuesday I would hope this goes live within the next few days

A fair number of people have reported coil whine across all brands, including a lot of H members that have gone through multiple cards from different vendors. While it may not happen to every card, it does seem to be a real issue. Coil whine isn't exactly a new thing either, people have been complaining about it for years with various GPUs.

If it's only a "fair number," you might want to look up the definition of "pervasive."

Skip to 4:05 and you'll see its happening. There isn't any doubt.

As of when? Well, I'm sure we are very close. That video just came out a few days ago. Tiger leaked the promo and yanked it a few days ago too. So it has to be real soon. I would say within the next week or so.

lol do you seriously want to argue semantics? I could have said "common occurence" but I'm sure you'll have a bone to pick with that as well. Bottom line is you and I have very different definitions of "common", so we're never going to see eye to eye on this.

Probably not, since "common" is not a good way to describe it either. Honestly I don't care about how you see it or whether we agree or disagree. It's certainly not going to keep me up at night.

If I purchase more than one at the same time, I should be getting 2 promo codes to redeem right?

Also the Amazon link for those who want to purchase from Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/b/?node=10287901011

Edit: Just found this in Amazon's TOS. • Offer limited to one per customer and account. Sigh.

[WRONG]
Correct. Apparently this promotion started back around the 23rd of October so people should be chasing participating retailers for codes if you purchased after that date.
[/WRONG]

EDIT: That's a shame. Some dude on OCN got Newegg to give him 2 codes for his 970's even though he bought on the 20th.
Looks like the promo starts today, not the 23rd. Ooops!

the crazy part is that the Gigabyte G1 card is actually the best 970 card and is the cheapest (sold by Amazon)...I just ordered it today...the fact that Amazon lets you order it even though it's not in stock is a great deal

Holy shit are those nVidia direct sales cards with a Titan-esque blower?

Its 980 cooler not Titan and you cant actually buy that card there. It was just a pic used as part of promo. Some system builders supposedly got the card but again its not available for purchase by itself.

what's the difference between the reference 980 blower cards and the Titan blowers?...I thought blower style coolers were only good for SLI configurations?

You can get the MSI gaming, gigabyte gaming g1 (recommend these two as the top video cards). EVGA and PNY as well GTX 970 video cards on tigerdirect. They do have 9 dollar shipping but you can get 10 dollars off with coupons.com linked card and 30 dollars off with masterpass. so approximately 31 dollars of the price of these video cards. They also eligible with the Nvidia free game offer for either the crew, ac unity, or far cry 4.

Just pulled the trigger on purchasing a GigaByte GV-N980G1 GAMING-4GD card from NewEgg just now. Now to check the NewEgg a couple hundred times to check on the shipping status. :)

Just bought my 2nd MSI Gaming to sli at 309 dollars after 30 masterpass and 10 coupons.com discount. So I got both cards for price of 629 which is about the price for a single gtx 980 gaming. My first sli so I hope I'm not one of those people who are sensitive to microstutter or any of the other cons of sli.

Has anyone had any trouble getting a refund from eVGA for a defective GTX 970? They are dragging their feet on my refund, and just today I threatened a credit card chargeback if I do not get the refund by Wednesday.

Had to RMA a Strix 970 to Asus. They couldn't fix it. Basically it got power but no display. Tried other cards in the same build which worked fine and tried the card in another build and no luck either. Anyway Asus has taken forever to conclude they couldn't fix it. Finally they told me after about three weeks they would send me a new card. Turns out they are sending me a new Strix 980 so I'm stoked.

I never had a card that was DOA I know that must be extremely rare for Asus.

Thanks! Out of stock at my local Microcenter. Although I think I'm going to hold out for Newegg Business. That $50 off + no sales tax is hard to beat.

I think you mean "I love Amazon for putting a warehouse in PA", enabling same/cheap next day delivery to Philly, Baltimore, DC and such.

He's referring to Keystone Commonwealth sales taxage (which is worse than that of Maryland, which is 6 percent). Though they may have a warehouse in PA, neither Mom or I have EVER had anything ship from there (she's a Prime member) - instead, everything fulfilled by Amazon comes out of Hebron, Kentucky (not that far from Churchill Downs, where the hay-burners play).

Best Buy is selling an NV branded 970 with a 980 style cooler on it.

Bought 2 myself. Very quiet so far, havent tried to OC them yet.

Anyone know how long on average it has taken for Amazon to get more Asus 970s in? Last time they had it in was 2 days ago...

Actually, a similar card is indeed purchasable at select Best Buy locations - my local Best Buy actually has some in stock for their Black Friday event.

What my concern is is (of course) the cooling (compared to both other aftermarket-cooled cards (such as STRIX and ACX 2.0) - not just compared to more traditionally-cooled cards (such as PNY's XLR8 version).

The card in question - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nvidia-...lack/9855169.p?id=1219441201895&skuId=9855169

I linked the same info in my post above, and there are several of us now it seems that own at least one of them... peek in this thread for some info/comments.

This one had some info too...

http://www.overclock.net/t/1525046/best-buy-sells-the-reference-970

My 2 in SLI are quiet, seem to hit 1500 pretty easy and they are built like a tank.

Apparently they are also now part of the NVidia promo for the free game codes and you can try to price match and see if you get lucky like I did and walk out with 2 of them for $349 each instead of $379.

There might be cards that can do higher speeds, but I wanted blower cards and not cheapo plastic shrouds, so for me, I'm quite happy with them.

Sorry ass Bestbuy would not price match for me. Not until Tuesday regardless if it was a Black Friday sale or not.

Sorry if you answered this before, but which card/website did you use to price match with?

Some people had been posting online that they snagged a card for $299 at some Best Buy stores, so I started trying to get them to match that by showing them the online posts and pictures, but without a clear date, they wouldnt match to it.

The kid then says, "We can price match other retailers though if they're cheaper" and proceeds to pull up Amazon.com and types "970 GTX" into the search box, the first card in the list was an EVGA 970 for $349.99 and he goes "That one?" and I said "Um, sure!"

He didnt seem all that smart, but they do sell EVGA branded cards so maybe thats why he did it, I dont know for sure as I wasnt about to push my luck and start asking too many questions. The stores are in price match mode for the holidays so that should be a bit of a help.

Here's something else that may help, a shot of my receipt. Its got their store info at the top, the date and the price they rang up for me with their SKU on it. It might be enough to get them to match for you.

Sorry for the largish pic, but figure its better to be clear so they can see its not doctored other than to white out some of my personal info and order number from the one they had to ship in from the warehouse.

Its really a nice card, and though I've had a few driver issues with them, I'm very happy with the quality and performance, esp at the price I managed to get.

Good luck!
