Dell U2715H (new standard gamut model, successor to U2713HM)

Frame-less bezels inner black bezel ruins the perceived black level and makes blacks look light. Example. When glass, frame-less and glossy bezels are used, measuring the black depth is kind of pointless.

Unless this sells for around 450$ US, I don't see any reason to consider it, especially since AOC sells glow free Q2770QPU's and it, along with the BenQ BL2710PT have nice matte grey bezels. I will be shocked if it has less than a frame of input lag.
The U2715H has better black levels and usable contrast than both the Q2770QPU and the 2710PT.

The current 27" AU Optronics panels (e.g., M270 series) and previous LG panels are not competitive with the new 27" LG "Neo Blade" panels.

Any idea on when this monitor would be available at Best Buy, Amazon, etc? Wasn't sure if Dell typically keeps new models exclusive to their site for some time.

I understand from my Dell rep that the actual shipping is expected for early November, and KenF said the one he ordered is expected to be delivered Nov 12, so I'd guess availability at other stores to be by mid-month.

Obviously you did not look at my example. The measurements are irrelevant when paired with a black frame-less, glossy or glass covered bezel. The same thing applies to Plama's when placed in bright rooms due to the way the phosphors react to light (newer plasmas are much better) and pairing with glossy black bezels. I have calibrated and placed a matte frame-less IPS (1300:1, also owned the glossy S236HL with 1,100:1) next to a first gen PLS (850:1 S27A850D with a matte grey bezel), guess which one had deeper perceived blacks when the lights weren't off? Frame-less=useless (due to the thick bottom bezel) cost cutting junk until they change the inner black bezel to dark grey.

Matte Frame-less Example

Re-posting these: the right monitors blacks far lighter when using the glossy black bezel

Glossy monitor with matte bezel & matte monitor with glossy bezel // Matte Monitor with glossy bezel & glossy monitor with matte bezel

Whether someone notices or cares is the real question, but you have been warned.

The monitor arrived today despite the estimated November 12 ship date. Unfortunately, I won't have time to unpack before Friday.

So either this is destined to be the all-around best 27" 1440p IPS made to date, or is not worth buying because the perceived blacks will be bad? Got it.

im excited to hear what you have to report. hopefully tft comes out with a review soon too.

I am gonna get this thing as soon as I can sell a couple of my u2713hm 's

200$ more expensive than the AOC Q2770QPU and BenQ BL2710PT. No point in 'upgrading' from a U2713HM unless it suffers from cross-hatching and extreme overshoot ghosting (some revisions do) since the differences will be minimal at best, plus the U2713HM has a nice matte grey bezel.

yeah, I'm waiting for a detailed review, too. If sale prices put it in the same range as the AOC and BenQ, and the reviews are positive, I might pick one up. Otherwise, I think the AOC is where I'll B. (pardon the pun).

Just got 3 of them in today from Dell...haven't unboxed yet but I will this weekend. Was able to score them @ $363/ea through my Dell Business account. Might not be this low ever on the site but watch for sales. Rep said they should be more competitive than the U2713HM was originally.

I can't wait until the reviews come in. It would be great to have a 4K monitor, but the sexy design of the U2715H and the fact that most Windows apps aren't optimized for high DPI displays mean I'll hold out on upgrading to 4K for the foreseeable future.

Wow, $363 a piece! That's a fantastic deal, ckeck.

RIP my inbox :(

Lot of questions about contacting my rep. I have an old business account that is handled by their marketing group which I guess gets a bit more flexibility. You can't just call the rep as a normal or personal customer though.

Trying to figure out what options exist for everyone. The other benefit is these orders include a 3-year advance replacement warranty.

Regarding the monitors themselves...super nice so far! I have more coming in but the 3 I already received have no dead pixels and no really noticeable light bleed, just the typical IPS glow.

Ran quite a bit of Titanfall last night in "game" mode and plays excellent. I've never been sensitive enough to determine the difference in a few ms of response time lag on monitors...so these are a far better alternative than something like the ROG Swift, unless you really need/want G-Sync for some reason.

wow please let me know somebody if it hits this price ever. holy bananas.

Can anyone confirm that a DP cable is included and how long it is? I pulled the trigger and want to make sure I have the cable to connect when I receive it. Thanks!

Yes, it comes with a 6ft Displayport to Mini Displayport cable.

The slim bezel looks nice. Tough to tell much else. How is the bleed and glow if any? Can't wait to see more pics.

Not bad at all...I'll try to get another. When I snapped a shot with my phone it showed some insane light bleed (because most camera suck in low-light), but that is not at all what you see with your own eyes.

Monitor is great so far. No dead/stuck pixels, bleed, etc. Very nice and a big upgrade from my Philips 23" 230W running at 1920x1200...

What happen to your asus rog swift?

It had vertical lines during redraws or large parts of the screen, some kind of pixel inversion artifact. Failed pixel inversion web tests too. I couldn't unsee it, it looked real bad. I also couldn't enable ulmb in fullscreen games via OSD or nv control panel because g-sync wouldn't disable, but that was a much lesser issue.

Anyway, I have the Dell now.

Review: Everything is as advertised. Box was slightly damaged (thanks China or FedEx), but there is an excessive amount of packaging inside so the panel was undamaged. Colors and brightness/contrast/etc look... well, just plain correct out of the box. I didn't change any settings, which surprised me. It came with a calibration report, which I guess pros need for reference but that I'll probably never use. Maybe I'll tweak brightness and stuff later. I did change displayport mode to 1.2 (since I have a GTX 980) and response time to "fast". My first IPS panel -- the color improvement over TN is striking. No visible dead pixels (via a few web tests), pixel inversion, or worth-commenting-about glow/bleed. Using the included miniDP-to-DP cable, and a Dell Win8 driver downloaded from their support site (probably not necessary). I played some CS:GO and Hearthstone, very happy so far. Gonna fire up Skyrim and Diablo 3 in a bit.

Glad to hear it is working out for you. How is it going back to 60hz? Most people say they can't go back.

While I can see the difference (I tested the ROG Swift), it just isn't that noticeable to me. That's my personal perception though.

Also a few more milliseconds of "screen latency" is seriously not noticeable in games, particularly when playing online where there is network latency in the 30-70ms range. I think a lot of it is mental :)

Just got one through work for my home office setup. It's still boxed up right now, but I hope to get it set up soon - waiting on a new dock to also show up so I can connect it to the older work laptop I still have.

I may "accidentally" connect my gaming system to it when I get a GeForce 970, too. :) James, if no one has checked by the time I've got mine configured, I'll see if it does 48/72Hz.

Just got mine all setup. Very happy so far. No dead pixels and no visible light bleed. I have the brightness at 35 right now. This sucker is bright. I will post a couple pics later today.

Got my U2715H on Saturday with calibration protocol (and 100% pixel error free waranty from the distributor).
No pixel errors :) (was worth the 20€ I guess)
I am coming from a Samsung 226BW 2ms TN display (which was famous of having little input lag - ages ago). While the Rog Swift was my favorite replacement candidate for a long time, the price and the Revision 0 hardware problems lead me to the U2715H.
My 970GTX results:
BF4 max details 2560x1440 constant a 60Hz.
I also compared it to my 226BW - I do not feel any difference in Input lag during the testing of:
- Skyrim
- Battlefield 4
- Borderlands 2
- Diablo 3
When using the 6ms Fast Response Time I could some effects from Overdrive Overshooting, which I only noticed in Borderlands 2 and there only in the Sky.
What I do notice is some motion blur. The details are not that clear if you move your head in a FPS. The UFO and Moving text test showed that the 2ms TN can handle movements which are 50-100% faster without motion blur.
So from my point of view - never having had a 120Hz monitor - the motion blur is ok for me.
I do not notice any difference in input delay to my 226BW.

Now the more disturbing facts:
Brightness.
I had to set brightness to 13%.
And: a black screen is still gray - I guess this is IPS glow. The bleeding at the borders is little and ok for me, but the complete screen is somewhat gray/illuminated. My old TN has deeper dark. Even with the brightness set to 13% at the U2715H.

Besides this:
For office work and image processing the monitor is just great. Grayscale is absolutely linear. My 226BW TN has a horrible gray scale. The 226bw has only 10 %dark levels, 80% _one_ middle gray level, 10% white levels
Final verdict: For gaming it is also good - only in dark scenes it is to grayish/glowing (IPS glow).
Is this a general IPS, a small bezel, or a U2715H problem?

I am still not 100% sure if I will keep the U2715H - only due to the black level.

And I am looking desperately for some objective test results ...
Hopefully it has the same low input lag as the U2415: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2415.htm

Update: Sitting in the office in front of 2 Dell P2311H in the dark morning hours, I recognize, that they have the same non-black and more even more IPS glow, although they have big bezels. Maybe my criticism of the U2715H is on a high level, because with this incredible Design and that price tag I was hoping for an outstanding performance.

I got mine tonight. Clean look, basic.. used it for about 20minutes but the entire lower part of the screen was noticeable redder (almost half the screen, 60/40 split or so). Some annoying blb top left and a smaller amount running the entire top part of the screen.

It's not an expensive screen but I can't stand visible color temperature shifts like that so it's going back.

@tozz: that's a pitty. I had more luck. Mine has perfect color and perfect uniform white over the entire screen.

I am still waiting for more feedback.

The Amazon reviews at least look promising, so that I think my subjective rating of the monitor is right.
