Somebody please tell me that the trucks in the picture below are NOT the laser systems they are talking about in the article. Imagine trying to get something that size mobilized in time to actually catch a small drone. :eek:

China has developed a highly accurate laser weapon system that can shoot down light drones at low altitude, state media reported. The machine has a 1.2-mile range and can bring down “various small aircraft” within five seconds of locating its target, the official Xinhua news agency said, citing a statement by the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), one of the developers.

They are not the laser system they are talking about in the article.

That is a Dong Feng 21 (DF-21) MRBM.
 
I would say those are SRBM's, but WHO KNOWS! it's china, maybe they transform

Hell, round these parts we call the weapon to shoot down light drones SHOTGUNS

My guess is that it was a press release and the Chinese news agency grabbed a photo. Like the top gun footage CTV claimed was footage of Chinese military

China imo, has reached technological parity with the US. They have already surpassed us economically. Wake up America, we are about to get rocked hard.
 
Tin Eye says that the image used in article was first Crawled on 2009-10-01
and has appeared on at least 8 other websites since that time.
 
This is totally true!!

China got a Laser Pointer (the kind you use to play with cats) and taped it to one of those trucks with the big missile. Now they can aim their missiles at drones. :)
 
In other news, North Korea rolled out their new stealth drone, and have announce their new impervious missile shield. They plan to tape it to their ultramegasonic capable jet fighter bomber transport bread slicer thingy and destroy 'Murica.
 
China has One Upped us again!
They now have Shark Missiles with LaserBeamPointers on their heads!

Range of only 1.2mi? Small drones? This is hardly advanced tech. I'm sure a few of us could figure out how to do this. Call me when they can shoot down something bigger at higher speeds from much farther away.

LOL no. You are just plain wrong. We have the most advance weapons on earth and the only advance technology they have is the stuff they steal from us. I have a friend who works cyber security for a unnamed government defense contractor and the amount of times they see intrusion attempts from Russia and China is crazy.
 
Lasers are way too easy to counter to ever be a weapon of war, they're only ever going to be properly useful against civilian populations. That's why the countries developing them are working so hard to do so, civilians.

China is probably only a few years behind, and catching up fast given they actually pump a TON into education. And unlike the Soviets 30 years ago, China actually has the manufacturing capacity to create and maintain high quality items.

No and no.

They, for instance, have barely begun stealthing their aircraft and there is vast disparity of accessible technology from place to place.

The US still has almost double their GDP. Ya know what's telling there? That tiny little Japan produces about 1/2 of China's GDP with 1/10th the population

I came here to post this. I'm pretty sure our drones can shoot hellfires from quite some distance.
 
China makes everything we use. I wouldn't be surprised if they are more advanced than the U.S. already. Everything is outsourced. They have all the schematics and all the blueprints to make everything we have. Only thing made in the U.S. now in days is fast food but even then they are outsourcing the meat also lol.
