Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

in FPS MP games it's all about the maps...and the maps look kinda weak in that video

I wouldn't worry about the maps, most people that have been playing for awhile speak very highly of them.

The one issue is dedicated servers. The devs say the game supports them but all platforms so far seem to be p2p based (host migration even on PC). Some people think they simply haven't activated them yet, but I don' t know how likely that scenario is considering it's already out in various regions.

I don't mind the lack of server browser as long as the backend is on servers, but if it's straight up p2p then I won't play, no matter how good the port is.

Aha 91 fps is the Quake 3 default. I like how they still have not changed it.

Do they have the console enabled?

It's uncapped in SP, though. So it's probably a design decision for MP at this point.

It is probably a hybrid like Ghosts where it falls back to P2P, but who knows. They are doing an AMA on Reddit but aren't answering any PC questions and when asked about dedicated they only said yes.

I guess they will be able to come out like they did with Ghosts and admit the truth later.

Looks like the trash that was ghosts. Sounds like everyone is getting terrible performance lol

Pretty sure it's just a bug with one specific map. FPS tanks for some reason during the first few minutes, then it's fine.

Maps are important, but what you are both overlooking or ignoring is that a functional and intuitive server browser is absolutely fundamental to fostering online communities.

Firstly, clans and competitive players require the ability to pick and choose the servers they play on. Secondly, both casual and competitive players need the ability to pick servers that deliver the lowest latency and ping. Thirdly, server browsers are far more efficient in terms of getting into a game as opposed to the slow arsed match making process. Fourthly, even though casuals don't care as much, having a large constituent of clan and competitive players means that there is always someone to play with.

There are a plethora of other reasons which back up the argument that a server browser is crucial to the longevity of any FPS MP game, but if you need first hand evidence then look no further than any CoD game released after MW1 where the community for every sequel has died in the arse within a couple of months after release. Its hilarious and pathetic that MW1 still has the largest online player base out of all the CoD games released since.

Looks like infantry only titanfall. Only with even smaller maps................innovative!!

Whatever, it will sell a billion.

The multiplayer looks like the worst thing ever. Somehow they actually thought making the full auto guns fire faster and take less bullets to kill was a good idea, the other 20 weapons serve no purpose at all.

I imagine the next iteration of the series will just have a laser accurate instagib smg that you don't have to reload.

yeah, i noticed exactly this. i watched five minutes of that stream and it made my decision so much easier.

he points the SMG from 50 ft at a guy and the guy dies 500 milliseconds later.

Saved $50!

The Kid streaming is good but has a low IQ he must not know what staying up 24/7 does to the body.... Game totally looks like Titanfall but with worse graphic and nausea graphics.
Totally not going to buy it despite my Dew and Doritos thing. The reason why Respawn entertainment added Co-op them knew this game was coming.....

Mad accuracy huh.

Actually it won't. 50 percent less preorders than Ghosts. This is set to be the lowest profit on a COD game ever actually.

It looks like the community is finally tired with the formula. I still don't get why anyone buys COD on the PC. Its a console focused game with almost no PC support. PC versions are just full of hackers and bugs.

Just like Ghosts and MW3 this is another lame COD game.

Where are these hackers you speak of? I have hundreds of hours in MW2, MW3, BLOPS 1 and 2 and Ghosts(less than the others in that shit) and I haven't met very many hackers. I've said this on the previous pages, but 90% of the people you accuse aren't actually hacking. The reason I play on PC is because I sometimes want to play against people who don't suck at the game, plus controllers are horrible for an FPS. The point I'm trying to make is you should focus on the actual issues and not making generalizations that aren't even true.

I did not buy this an am not planning on it because Ghosts was shit and this looks similar, although they seem to have worked on the graphics/settings on PC a bit. (Watch TotalBiscuit's video)

Boot up MW2. I can almost with certainty bet that there will be one or two or more cheaters using aim bots to destroy you. Boot up BLOPS 1 and you'll see people getting banned left and right by Punkbuster for using aimbots. Boot up Ghosts and you'll be met with more hackers than any of the other games. Hell boot up COD:MW 1 and you'll bet hit with more bots/aimbots than you can fathom.

You must have played with hackers frequently because this is a well documented issue. The PC versions of COD are plagued by hackers and have been for ages. It trashes them and the fact that Activision barely patches their PC versions speaks to even more reason why they don't care. They don't get hardly any profit from the PC versions. Their profit margin is console only focused. Its released on PC to stave negative publicity.

Matchmaking is another issue. MW2 used Peer to Peer for godsakes.. PEER TO PEER on a platform where dedicated servers are an absolute must we have MW2 using peer to peer. Any real PC shooter uses dedicated PERIOD. Activision knows this and doesn't give a shit. Peer to peer also makes hackers more of an issue because that means more client side management which means a great chance of being hacked.

There is no need to candy coat COD. Its a left over franchise when the PC versions are considered. BLOPS 1 was the only attempt at a PC version like state and that was pretty much left to rot. I can't play any COD version without encountering hackers so don't try to play it off as a non issue.

This isn't even scratching the surface while other issues are not being discussed such as bugs that have continued to plague COD games left to rot for years. People even went as far as to make a dedicated server version of MW2 (which was illegal) and patch its long list of MP bugs. Activision sued these developers in court and won of course.

COD deserves absolutely critical reception. And since Activision couldn't care less about the PC version they deserve it as well.

Dunno dude, I played CoD4 over 300 hours and about 150 in Black Ops 1, the cheating situation was not as bad as you described.

Insecure admins banning good players was WAY more prevalent than actual hackers.

I've got less than 100 hours in Ghosts and I can say that I encountered 1-2 hackers every time I've played.

First impressions:

Better than Ghosts
Tiny maps
Better have a lot of video card memory if you want max options. @ 1080p with a i7 5960x, 32 GB RAM, 2x Geforce 980s (though this game doesn't use SLI), and installed on an SSD (Corsair Neutron), if I set max options, the game would be very choppy, and multiplayer was unplayable (assuming you wanted a decent score). Sadly, optimized video puts my computer at low settings.
Still P2P, which is a shame. The few matches I played, there would be multiple times where the host had a 3 bar advantage over everyone else. I don't understand why companies keep deciding the person with the most pathetic connection is always the host, while here I sit with a 100 Mb connection, 50 Mb upload, and never a host.

Quick video demonstrating the issues:

The first 7 minutes are everything on as high as possible @ 1080p sans super sampling, the second is optimal settings with a few things bumped up. (You can see my obsessive behavior looking at the latency bars).

MW2? You will be stuck playing with a couple of Russians most of the time and thus have a terrible ping. You probably won't even find any games, which is the actual issue. Once the new CoD comes out, the old one usually dies out and nobody plays it. Same thing with BLOPS 1, but there were servers there so they could have been banned. Last I checked there isn't really anyone playing BLOPS 1 though.

I've played all of them in their prime time though and the hackers were far and in between. MW2 I actually had a hacker on my friends list for shits and giggles, but I only encountered him maybe 4 times, 2 of them being him inviting me. There were a couple of others, but again I rarely saw hackers even though MW2 was one of the worst when it came to that. BLOPS 1 I don't remember a single hacker, but there were dedicated servers so that was expected. MW3, I don't remember that much of anymore. I never really liked it so not sure how it was there. BLOPS 2 I think I met one or two hackers in my 300+ hours. Those people you think are hacking really aren't unless they are killing everyone on the map within a few seconds with headshots. When my clan and I would play, we would generally dominate the enemy team so badly they all cried hacks because we were going 50-0. All of our K/D's are above 2.00 with some of them being 3.00+ after 100k+ kills. If you were to join in our games you would cry hacks no doubt, because that's what happens when you have learned the maps and spawn points. You start to be able to prefire corners are at least come around a corner with your gun aiming already aiming at the enemy. Not something you would expect from CoD noobs, hence why you cry hacks.

Honestly unless you have a decent amount of hours in the game I don't think you should be presenting your opinion as fact. The fact that the previous CoD always becomes obsolete is an actual issue. I'll also give you dedicated servers, those should be included in the PC version as well. (Matchmaking does make it easier to group up and be on the same team though)

As for Ghosts, well that game is just so terrible that anything will seem like hacks. There is some weird lag and messed up hit detection going on in that game. Not being able to see pings doesn't help either.

I actually played CoD4 semi recently (about 6 or so months ago) and there were a couple of servers still up. There are still quite a few Promod servers out there which can be pretty fun. I did get banned from a server for supposedly wall hacking as well though. (Not my fault the admins decided to let dead players spectate both teams)

Well my GF bought me Ghosts and she also bought me AW. I am happy to have played it but here is my impression of the game so far after 5 hours of playtime with some mates.:

- The game has a low ( and I mean low) TTK (time-to-kill)
- The game has a super low skill cap ( Duh it's cod), but with the TTK and lack of recoil of weapons the guns feel like lazer beams -- and it is not the best aim but who-saw-whom first.
- The maps are about as generic as a COD game yet. (although I didnt play Ghosts as it ran like ass and I was done with it so I dont know shit about those maps).
- The game, the entire game devolves into; " getting shot at SUPER JUMP onto building, run away....profit"
- Camping is now a thing of the past. It is now double jumping and running away,
- Skill cap is far too low. Most of the weapons have no recoil. SO it becomes a matter of a) what does more damage, b) what has a higher firerate.
- It does run smooth at 91 FPS on my rig, so that is good.

This game is much better than ghosts ( didnt really play it it was that bad) but is not really worth 60 bucks and the MP is a frantic who can outjump and double dash and hide past another vs gunplay. Basically it is typical COD -- low skill cap, low recoil weapons, high on frantic engagements with high powered laser beam weapons.

I wont be playing again. I will spend my FPS time playing BF4 or CSGO. This game is LEGO FPS.

LOL BF4 and CS:GO both bore me, too. Farcry 4 looks good though. It's COD what did you expect? Not worth $60, I suppose so - but I can name at least 10 games I bought in the last year that weren't worth $60 either.

Seriously? I listed all my experiences from COD:MW1 (I began playing from the first COD by the way) to Ghosts and somehow I don't have enough experience playing the franchise?

Wow. Seriously , people complain that PC gamers are to opinionated about the kind of shit they put up with but when I see even a small grouping of people basically pandering as if the franchise hasn't been a total and complete mess on the PC for a while now I just really don't know what to say..

I really just can't fathom why anyone would support a publisher that basically treats you , the PC gaming audience , as the least important consumer they deal with. You can say a lot of nasty things about EA/Dice after BF4 but at least the BF4 that came to PC's was made for them. It wasn't just a straight port that Activision is well known for doing for the PC versions of COD. Frankly EA/Dice have really begun to make up for it with some solid changes and a stable game now. I slammed them hard for BF4 as well but I've never seen Activision step up and fix the problems that have plagued COD PC ports.

I'm not sure what to tell you guys but COD on the PC is the least important platform to Activision. They simply don't care about the numbers they get from PC gamers. They are much happier to channel casual players on consoles. You all realize that COD is absolutely a casually aimed game now right? Even if pro gamers want to elevate it Activision still has the casual audience in mind first and foremost. COD isn't simply an FPS shooter for gamers its a franchise for anyone who wants entertainment even if they are not what we consider traditional gamers anymore.

Even the producer of Ghosts had this to say : http://www.computerandvideogames.co...-many-call-of-duty-players-arent-core-gamers/

"We have an enormous amount of players who are more in the casual game space, but they play a lot."

"It's kind of a weird, ironic thing to say. They aren't hardcore gamers, or even gamers, but they play Call of Duty every night. And those guys are going to continue to play regardless of platform. So I think not only will we continue to engage with that existing player base, but we'll take next gen and see how far we can go with it."

Don't think that COD:AW has anything different in mind concerning this. Its a casually targeted game and PC gamers are NEVER casually targeted gamers. So you are buying a casually aimed game expecting PC gaming level performance when in fact its now publicly stated that it isn't aimed at that audience in reality..

So I've said what I'll say on COD. For consoles its what they want it to be but for PC its a ported mess almost every time. I get that we all have difference of opinions on this topic but PC gamers really need to understand that publishers are looking always for the path of least resistance and PC gamers are a bunch of resisting folks even at the best of times.

Damn, some of ya have some serious anger issues about a game. If you don't like the game, vote with your wallet and move on. Anyways...

I picked up this game for $50 to see if it fills my "regrettable game purchase of 2014". Or rather, "can it be any worse than Battlefield 4 at launch til about 6 months later?" I did load up BF4 recently and the fixes are damn nice but it shouldn't of taken a year (BF3 was in better shape). I'm a sucker for a Sci-Fi theme, I won't lie!

This will be my first CoD since MW2 so my expectations are very low. But so far, its not bad but not exactly inspiring. "Is it well executed?" - I'll come back in 2 week for that answer:

The Good

-Movement feels like a blend of UT's dodging, a bit of Crysis 3, and I guess Titanfall (only played the beta).
-Sounds seem decent, need to spend more time listening in more.
-Weapons/gear/perks are standard fair with some funny gimmicks. (lol at the energy shotgun)
-Maps only feel small if its Ground War mode.
-Graphics - its looks pretty enough...til I ran into options and did my adjustments. Doesn't beat BF4 but good enough.
-90 FOV!

The bad/"concerning"
-Easy to kill and get killed.
-Inconsistent FPS drops - either drivers or...
-Some maps need a optimization pass or something's up.
-Where's the dedicated servers as they keep claiming about? (linky to Reddit AMA). Ran into a few matches were my ping was declared awful and it reflected. Did not run into "Host Mitigation" in the 1 hr I played tonight.

I'm not exactly bothered with no server browser as long as I am on a dedicated server. It really depends what type of player experience and interaction the developer wants people to enjoy. The L4D-series and recently Evolve "Alpha" were matchmaking, CS-GO was either depending on what you are doing, same with BF3/4 and I think Insurgency as well.

Looks like you only get Zombies mode if you order the season pass, only $49.99!

Appalling that the devs lied their fucking arses off leading up to release about the PC version having dedicated servers. I seriously don't understand why anyone would risk pre-ordering these games given these types of repeated offenses by Activision. They know they are going to be found out but obviously do not give a shit if it means they can secure a miniscule increase in sales by duping those naive enough to believe their PR bullshit.

I have the game on PS4, it definitely has a lot of players to go against. I find that it is a slight "breath of fresh air" injected into the CoD formula. I'm a big fan of the CoD series (Though CoD4 is my favourite, then followed by probably BLOPS 1/2).

I can see it being pretty fun. I only played 4 matches and landed at level 15 with the 2x exp. Not too shabs, after my raid today in Destiny I may hop on again!

One thing that's strange to me is that it seems as a FPS, CoD is coming around full circle. The series started as a WW2 game, less realistic than something like CS, but more than other FPSs at the time. I remember when IW placed a delay into the jump/landing so that bunny hopping wouldn't be all that players ever did. And now? We have the boost double jump. Remove regenerating health, place weapons/health packs on the ground throughout the map, and you practically have Unreal Tournament. With the way the series seems to be headed, we might soon have Call of Duty: Demon Warfare, where you play the part of a space marine sent to mars to kill all the aliens & demons terrorizing the planet.

I remember when UT was the FPS game everyone strived to be. Now it's the opposite, everyone wants a slow paced realistic shooter.

- Inasanly Fast TTK combined with obscure netcode makes most engagements razor thin lots of weirdness and kills behind cover

-The double jump basically breaks an engagement, its useless to even aim for a player, i can assume this was designed to break the "lock" of aim-assist for console players

-The Hitbox for punch/melee is hilariously huge, i have punched a vast majority of players without them even being in view

Wow, people don't even buy the game yet want to keep coming to this thread to shit on it. Love the internets!
