Gigabyte GTX 970 Mini-ITX (and discussion for other small 970 cards)..

hellooo, what's this?

http://www.galaxstore.net/GALAX-NVIDIA-GEFORCE-GTX-970-OC-4GB-p/97nph6dt8rvz.htm

Just happened to browse their store site when someone posted a link to it in the thread about Galaxy leaving the US market.

I see a heatsink with horizontal fin structure AND a place for air to vent out the back. It's not shrouded, but it's also only 7.6" long. That'll fit in a CM110, and those are notoriously stubby.

It's also slightly overclocked, base core 1126mhz and boost 1266, both 50MHz higher than the Zotac card, the heatsink doesn't hang as far over the back of the PCB either.

Looks like a definite ITX option.

Nice find, thanks!

Appears to be one of the smallest 970 cards yet (a slight bit longer than the Gigabyte ITX, but not as tall.. ~4cm² larger overall, according to their listed dimensions). Still much smaller than the ZOTAC, which was a little smaller than the Inno3D.

So, there isn't a mfg-direct GALAX store to purchase the 97NPH6DT8RVZ card in the US, like there was for Galaxy.. just importation only?

EDIT: Looks like you can order from the GALAX store in the US, but the item still ships direct from the factory (in Taiwan, I'm guessing?). And wtf.. this card has 2x DVI, but only 1x DisplayPort??

First time I hear about this brand. Canada and USA only. Two six pins instead of one 8 pin connector. Little difference but I also think its 'ITX length'.

Galax has an EU site here. Here in the UK you can buy their cards.

You might not have heard of them because they have formed from the merging of Galaxy and KFA2

Thanks. What are considerations regarding the power connectors? My Strider has single PCIE 8 pin split to two 6+2 pin. The video outputs look overkill on the Gigabyte but its good option.

Most GTX 970s (including reference) have two 6 pin power connectors, with the exception of some 'overclocked' models that have a 6 pin and a 8 pin.

The ITX Gigabyte has a custom pcb and I guess they decided to stick a single 8 pin on instead. Theoretically one 8 pin provides the same power as two 6 pin (150 W), so it shouldn't really matter.

According to a pre-order listing, shipped & sold by Amazon.co.jp, the Gigabyte GV-N970IXOC-4GD release date is Nov. 7 in Japan..

Also, just saw this interesting quote in a PCPer review of the MSI 760 ITX posted just a few days ago (LINK)..

This looks to be the last ITX branded card from MSI anytime soon. I asked MSI if they would be releasing a GTX 970 in the ITX form fact as Asus and Gigabyte have announced.

I've looked all over, but couldn't find anywhere that ASUS has mentioned plans for a 970 DC Mini. If anyone finds evidence of an upcoming GTX970-DCMOC-4GD5 from ASUS, please let me know!

I had a mini itx and the full-size card fit just fine. Guess what really should be taken into consideration is the case. Used it in a Cooler Master Elite 120.

Not many cases out there are really built around only supporting short cards.

What this is really interesting for (for me) is building a custom small case for it.

Just found this new slide, that wasn't shown with the others last week..

Yep got mine on amazon. This is going in my full sized desktop and in about 2 years when I upgrade again I'll move this over to my ITX htpc.

They are available from the Amazon link with a 2-3 week shipping.

I also bought one. I can't wait!

I know, I already posted the link above :D Just thought they might've been in-stock somewhere.

Please let us know when you guys get an update on shipping date! I'm kinda hoping I can do the $30 off Masterpass deal at Tigerdirect and get the free Nvidia Pick-your-path deal, if they get them soon enough.

And good thinking on your upgrade path. I'll be using mine in my M1 ITX build (which can also fit full-size cards), and will eventually move it over to an even smaller case.

Just got an e-mail from Amazon. My delivery estimate is Wednesday, Nov 26th - Tuesday, Dec 2nd. :D

Hmm.. that's a little past their 2 to 3 week estimate.

Iirc, @99_HONTEN_Parts originally stated availability in Japan on Nov. 6, then just recently adjusted that to an additional 10 days due to some unspecified delay. Might be the same for the US.. or perhaps Amazon has already sold through all of their 1st upcoming shipment (think it peaked at #32 for top-selling graphics cards the other day).

Thanks for the info ITR, and def let me know if they update it again!

Yeah, I'm hoping Amazon is just being generous with their estimate. I've had my M1 sitting in my living room for a while now and I'm dying to build in it. Hopefully this little card doesn't run too hot.

Upcoming Manli GTX 970 "for Mini-ITX" photos & benchmarks @CHIP.co.id (ID) (Nov. 5, 2014)..

Length is 19.5cm, and appears to be quite similar to the small'ish GALAX 970 OC found by Deruber last week. No SKU number was given, and the card isn't present on Manli's website yet. It seems Manli is part of the PC Partner Group, including ZOTAC, Sapphire & Inno3D.

Fellas, would it be a bad idea to put this in a mATX rig for gaming? I like the size of it and would rather go with a minimalist approach vs a full length flagship card.

Just wondering if the components used are just as good and the downside of using one of these versus a full length card.

Dunno that anyone has hands on one yet, and I haven't seen any reviews, however, I wouldn't automatically equate smaller card to lower quality, ever.

The companies that have been mentioned - Gigabyte, Zotac, Galax(y), have reputations for making good hardware, and I'd expect that to apply here as well. I might expect the same from the one AFD just posted about - I'm not familiar with Manli, but if they're part of PC Partner I would be surprised to see skimping on parts quality.

I haven't made a purchase yet, but if I wind up with enough spare cash at the end of this month I'll be ordering the Galax one. Maybe there will be more hands-on or reviews of models by then.

Did anyone ever ordered anything from galaxstore? I don't think any store in Canada is carrying their products.

I heard someone over on OCN ordered one, don't think hes received it yet though.

Oddly, Amazon US changed their ETA from "3 to 5 weeks" back to "we'll email you with an estimated delivery date when available" earlier this week, and just yesterday, they stopped taking pre-orders and delisted the item from their internal search results (now listed as "currently unavailable; sign-up to be notified"). :(

ShopBLT and AntaresPro just started pre-orders, but no ETA is given yet..

OCUK has also updated to say they're overdue. They've also dropped the price (i think)

Nice! That port cluster still kills me :/

Looks like good contact on the heatpipes and really good noise levels. Temps pretty good too considering it has zero outside exhaust, but I don't see what they tested it in.

I don't think EXPReview has tested it yet.. just took photos and tore it apart.

The noise and temps they mentioned were from benchmarks previously released by Gigabyte..

No idea what setup GB tested the card in. Could've been in an open-air test bench while pouring LN2 all over the place :D

Newegg has the Gigabyte card in stock:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125706

Sorry if this was already posted, I didn't see it.

Ordered, thanks!

According to one of their CS reps, this particular item doesn't qualify for Nvidia's Pick-your-path free game promotion (it should, so I'll waste their f'ing time until someone relents). It also didn't qualify for Shoprunner 2-day, so I signed up for a 30-day trial of their stupid Premier service to get free 3-day. I really hate shopping w/these guys.. but they do get new stuff in sooner than most :p

Nice size but does it really need so many connectors instead of just having some type of exhaust port?
DVI is being eliminated on current monitors, certainly do not need two of them plus 3 display ports.

I can't see why they could not take their 750TI twin fan which is <7 inches long and basically just replace the die since Maxwell are the same size, 28nm.

twin 100mm fans would do the trick better then 1.

9796_big.jpg

The card doesn't really make any attempt to direct the exhaust air, so I'm not really sure an exhaust port will matter.

I guess they could do a dual fan cooler, but two 100 mm fans would mean the cooler hangs over the end of the pcb by about 30 mm, which would suck :/

Damn I just bought a PNY GTX 970 a few days ago. Now I really want that Gigabyte ITX card!
Also FYI, my PNY 970 reuses the PCB from the 670 so it's only 241mm long with the fan and 173mm long without the fan! Which means if you're brave enough to void PNY's crappy warranty you can stuff it inside a ITX case (which I plan to do at some point :D)
