Nexus 6 speculation

Where the hell are the reviews??? It's 2 days before pre-order and I'm not ordering one without any review at all.

I have to think the big sites have the phone and are waiting for embargo to lift. Seriously Google, just announce the final release data already. I don't want another fiasco with availability.

That was my thinking. The reviewers have to have it already. Hell one guy on XDA in the N6 boards posted a picture of the blue N6, and was then trolled off...whether he was legit or not is unknown, did seem like he might have had a handset however.

I'm debating pre-ordering.... or walking to Sprint on launch day and getting a subsidized handset and/or trading my Note2 L900 in.

Are there any photos of the Verizon version yet? I might have to go unlocked if they put a gigantic logo on the back.

Dude, that's what cases are for ;)

And with that, I am so looking forward to the Nex6 - I put in my e-mail address to be notified when I can order/ upgrade to one. My jump occured in August, but I held out on my Nex5 until I saw more of the 6. I nearly went for the Note 4, but didn't feel comfortable, as I have had horrid experiences with TouchWiz on G'Bread 2.3.

My next concerns are what we should see for cases for this phone. I have a strong preference for an Otterbox, or similar (I'm using a Ballistic hybrid currently), screen protectors, and I am sincerely hoping I can upgrade seamlessly and still use my 1st gen Pebble, as well as my BT headset that was made back in 2010. Yes, there's a lot on my mind regarding my upgrade LOL

It's all the same model.

Same hw model. Not same SKU. Verizon is free to mess with bootloaders/firmware all they want.

Its not like the same phone is sent to all the carriers and they can't do anything to it. They can modify the software all they want, its their phone. That's why you are going to see added bloatware on AT&T and Verizon models for sure.

It'll be the same SKU.

You won't. Look at the Nexus 5 T-Mobile and Sprint sold.

What has changed between the Nexus 6 and the Galaxy Nexus? I would have assumed that Verizon only agreed to carry Nexus devices again if they could mess with it, as they did with the last version they carried.

Does anyone know when Amazon started selling the nexus 5 las year? I'm trying to come up with an expected date of when we should expect them to sell the Nexus 6.

I am surprised there hasn't been some good YouTube videos or real hands on yet with the Nexus 6.

Google announced it two weeks ago, and it officially goes on sale in a couple of days, and still no Nexus 6 out in the real world yet ? Yeah they may be two videos out there, one with some foreign dude from either Britain or Australia comparing it to a Note 4, and another short little vid from Des the T-Mobile dude, but that's it. But those videos sucked, not good lighting and detailed.

It was announced October 31st and available at Amazon on November 8th.

It's 1am GMT on the 28th, just checked Google play UK and...

Nexus 6 (32 GB, Cloud White) is not available in your country.

For those of you looking to buy one on contract or through a carrier.

As such, we asked if history would repeat itself with these new carrier Nexus devices. "I don't think we're going to do that. There is carrier testing that has to happen—you can't get away from that—but we're trying to have our updates be frequent," Burke said. "I think the carriers are learning and realizing that's a feature they want. So I think these are getting more efficient and they're getting better at it."

So it sounds like carrier Nexus devices will lag behind the unlocked versions, as they will have an additional carrier testing step. The hope this year is that the carriers wise up and won't delay things too much, but the potential for a delay is there.

Here you go, confirmation from Google that the carrier version will likely have update delays and thus shouldn't be considered the same phone as Play store version.

Here's the relevant quote -

Why can't Google have a Nexus phone on all carriers and worldwide, just like Apple and the iPhone ? When iOS8 came out, every iPhone 5S had the option to update it and grab that upgrade, with no waiting on each carrier to approve something, when Apple releases a new iOS, it's there for everyone at the same, Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, Sprint, European versions, etc...

Do you ever see ATT Crapware on the ATT iPhone ? No. Or is there a big Verizon logo splattered across the Verizon iPhone ? No.

I don't understand why a Nexus phone can't be on all carriers and be treated just like an iPhone, meaning no carrier intervention, it's all handled by Apple.

Because Google isn't Apple. I was hoping that at least for their prized Nexus line they wouldn't give in to stupid carrier demands, but no, they don't care about any of this. Now the Nexus 6 is just another phone, at this point we can't even be sure the carrier version will have unlocked boot loaders or the same firmware even.

Apple can do this. MS can do this. Google can't.

Makes me happy I got my OnePlus One last week. Yeah I hated the whole invite system, and BS, but for $350 this is a damn nice phone, nice enough to make me sell my HTC One M8 which I LOVED. CM11S is as close to a Nexus phone as we'll get, compared to like Touchwiz, and Sense, etc...

So the Nexus 6 is $700  And maybe the carrier versions won't get the best support from Google directly, but have to go through another chain of carrier approval  So sad to see Google do this to the Nexus. Why didn't Google just make a OnePlus One killer type of phone, a 5.5" screen, better hardware, all for like $399, sold off contract on the Play Store only.

1. they wanted to get it on all carriers, unlike previous Nexus phones. They could've made the carriers behave nicely, like Apple does, but didn't

2. they want to make profit off the Nexus line

I think we should treat the carrier subsidy phones as separate if they start locking boot loaders, blocking updates etc. Then the Nexus line is well and truly dead.

I figured it'd be like the N7 tab wifi compared to the LTE, the wifi gets updates first, LTE later since it has carrier crap in it.

As long as the bootloader isn't locked, the N6 still has value IMO over a droid turbo for instance, which I'm sure will be locked down and have a bunch of BS on it. It may well get later updates than the play store version and that blows, but if it's unlocked and rooted, one can take care of that pretty easily. Not so with anything else, on VZW anyway... I'm still undecided myself but I'm going to get one or the other, and it's damn well not going to be for $700 outright, that's insane in my world. I'd have been perfectly content too with a 5 or so inch with a bit less spec for $300ish off contract direct from Google. My assumption is that's kinda what they tried last time with the N5 and this is, as is everything with Google, an experiment. Maybe next year they'll make a cheap Nexus phone again.

Well I'm no photographer, but those pics look pretty good to me. I'm assuming they're from the Nexus 6? Did you take them, if not what's the source?

I'll get the phone as long as Verizon has an unlocked bootloader and can flash Google factory images, and Verizon doesn't block activation.

$700 is too much for me so I want to sign a contract and keep my unlimited using the upgrade trick.

Its from one guy, i don't want to share it because they may take it down, but trust me those are N6 photos :)

Those camera pictures look horrible IMO.

There's a right way and wrong way to take pics from a Nexus device.

I use the HDR quite frequently on my N5, and have a pretty good mastery of other options on it's camera. Anyone can take a camera and produce the right picture if they know what they are doing ;)

And with that, I agree, some of those pics could have been done better.

HDR photography always looks ridiculous, especially when it comes from a phone. I would like to see standard shots instead.

HDR off doesn't look any better. On the N5 I almost always take shots with it on because low-light conditions on the N5 make pictures look attrocious.

Anyone else in for the preorder today? Just waiting for the clock to tick over on the East Coast.

I was going to preorder but I think Ill go to a store and see if it fits in my jeans pocket before I buy. Just in case.

Been refreshing the site since 0300 and no option has come up to push an order through. Anyone have an idea when the gates will open?

What is the benefit of pre-ordering vs buying off amazon when it comes out? Did the N5 run out of stock or something if you didnt pre-order?

I would be getting 3% back if I got it off amazon because of my Chase credit card.

edit: Will amazon have it up for pre-order also?
