Microsoft has turned its stores into magical places and the sales representatives into magicians this week, giving them all the ability to make the Surface Pro 2 disappear completely.

After poking around a bit and using the sales chat function, the representative said that the Surface Pro 2 is no longer for sale on the site and that's about all there is to say.

Wonder if it means that I will be getting a SP3 if my SP2 needs to be RMA'd. I have the complete coverage.

Companies pretty much always have some back stock. They could probably replace my 1st gen with another 1st gen.

The Surface Pro 3 will be next followed by the non-existent Surface 4.

Naturally, since people use and like this product Microsoft will kill it off.

Yup, I had to RMA my SP1 earlier this month and they sent me a SP1 as the replacement.

In related news, Microsoft filled in their landfill. :)

I knew they only dug up those E.T. cartridges to have somewhere to dump all the Surface RT's.

Surface Pro 2 they just didn't make that many so probably went OOS.

The Surface Pro 2 is a year old, not sure how you're coming to this conclusion based on what looks to be a pretty successful product in the SP3 and given the fact that Nadella did say that Microsoft was going to make a SP4, even making not that current peripherals for the SP3 would be compatible with the SP4.

The SP3 has brought in big revenue for MS so you can bet they will definitely up the marketing budget for next year.

Right now on Microsoft Store:

Citation needed. If you think the earnings report said anything about SP3 = big revenue, I'd suggest you read up on what the numbers in the report actually mean.

You would only buy a surface pro 2 if it was much cheaper then the surface pro 3. That said the pro 3 is so much better then the pro 2 it would have to be almost half the price.

Surface line almost made 1 billions last quarter so things are looking good for the new surface line up.

So, they're discontinuing an older model, and this is news why... ?

One of the bigger surprises, is that Microsoft's Surface division has performed extremely well. The Surface division posted an increase in revenue of a huge 127%, compared to the same three-month period from last year. The Surface Pro 3 has been successful for the company, with $908 million in revenue with positive gross margin, and will soon be Microsoft's next billion-dollar business

This is why they dont want to sell Pro 2.

Given your explanation of gross margin in the Microsoft 1Q 2015, I don't think you know what the SP3 numbers actually mean. In any case, no matter whatever random and nonsensical anti-Microsoft logic you wish to apply to the SP3 numbers, the general market consensus is that those numbers were quite good and partly why the stock was up nearly 2.5% the next trading day.
