Dell U2415 with 16:10 1920 x 1200 AH-IPS panel

I think the consensus was that since it can't be detected as a TV (since it's 1920x1200) it won't be an issue.

Awesome looks like I will buy one and find out. Can snag one for 287 with free shipping from dell right now since I missed the 252 deal.

I thought the $280 deal was over too?

Nope, still going, just ordered now. I had to pay taxes which sucks but I guess that is what I get for living in WA.

Found on Ben's Bargains:
Update [10/25]: Dell Business has it for $400 - 20% off w/ code WQWGLVD2MG7NM9 [Exp 10/27] - extra 10% off w/ stackable code CTCBFMG8$BF92F [Exp 11/3] = $288 with free shipping.

Any one with this monitor having the display port/HDMI issues with the limited rgb color signal and nvidia cards like the U2414H had? Hopefully it was fixed. Just curious before I buy one.

I can confirm this is not a problem on the U2415. Nvidia set them to Limited (16-235) by default, but I was able to change to Full (0-255) through the Nvidia Control Panel.

So opened up both U2415s and connected to my laptop via HDMI.

Intel Graphics sees both as HDTVs, but I think that's because they're connected via HDMI. Both monitors are great, but one does have a stuck white pixel on the right side. I'll probably have Dell exchange it since this UltraSharps do have a stuck pixel guarantee.

I was able to change to full as well in the Intel graphics control panel.

So what does it look like when U2415 has a 1920x1080 FHD source, such Blu-ray?
Black strips on top and bottom or extended to full screen?

But it's supposed not to support 16:9, does that mean everything that has been said so far is wrong ?

Someone tried a game console ?

The U2415 stretches 16:9 inputs to fit the whole screen. I've already tested this by running a few PC games at 1920x1080 full screen. The monitor stretched the image to fit the screen rather than adding black bars. With that being said, you shouldn't have trouble with movies/TV shows. When I open a 16:9 TV show in VLC, it will play back at the proper aspect ratio in full screen with black bars at the top and bottom.

if you're playing games or movies from a PC then the graphics card is perfectly capable of controlling the aspect ratio to 16:9 for you, so you can happily watch that content with black borders. it's connecting external devices which are a problem, unless they have an aspect ratio control of their own which is rare. in those circumstances, viewing a 16:9 movie from an external device will stretch the image to full screen 16:10 format

Yeah with a PC app it's okay but I'm really talking about non-pc external sources only.

So what 450 wrote is BS or what ? Because how many owners actually tried an external source like a console or BR player ?

Just saying, he might be the only one so far and if the U2415 has got an automatic source detection feature (some monitors and TVs do) then he might be telling the truth.

The requirements for automatic resolution and ratio switching, defined by a manufacturer's engineers, are sometimes really unexpected and not what you might see in the natural PC world.

Just wanted to thank freakycody for the codes to get the discounts on this monitor. I bought one and it will be delivered this Wednesday (Oct. 29).

TFTCentral answered my question on twitter.
If from external device it will stretch full screen.

So I had a U2312 flanked by 2 old 1703fps on each side. The setup looked clean and worked. I broke the u2312 so I replaced it with a U2412. Looks similar to the 1703s with the bezels but it's so much bigger so it looks a little weird and I am not used to 16x10. Should I wait for the u2415s to go back on sale and just get 3 of them or would I be better off with u2414s?

Also what does it mean that there is no native support for 16:9 on the u2415? Is there any reason to go 16:9 over 16:10? I noticed that playing SC2 with the 1900x1200 res everything looked larger and more zoomed in.

Sorry but people dont read/search theads nor even read a few posts back on this forum, it's exhausting to have to repeat everything every 3-4 posts.
Sometimes I admire NCX's patience, seriously.

For the Nth time it's about external sources such as a console or a BR player.
Those dispense native 16:9 signal, would you like your games and movies to look deformed ?

@oversky: I've asked Simon over at tftcentral too, and even though he replied the same I'm still wondering if he even tried an external source other than a PC. I know he usually don't.

Then there's that post by member '450' on the previous page, who apparently owns the U2415 and says the monitor actually letterboxes 16:9 sources.

He could be saying the truth but he's not coming back to confirm. From my experience some monitors or other displays will automatically switch to a particular mode only when a very specific kind of signal is detected.
If this is the case here then tftcentral who probably haven't connected a real external video source for their review could be wrong.
I've seen chains of failure in noticing a specific feature or function in a device that lasted for months or even years because no one actually tried/tested the thing in real conditions.

Only NCX and prad.de try external video sources in their reviews, I'll only trust them or a user who comes and shows he actually tried everything before making any statements.

i contacted them as well and they said they connected an external DVD player and an external TV freeview box. Both output at 16:9 format and the screen stretches it to 16:10. They didn't have a modern games console to test but said that unless the device can control the aspect ratio itself (like a PC would), then the content is expected to be stretched to 16:10. any 5:4 or 4:3 sources can be handled as the screen supports those modes

Thank you very much Drags ! :)

And so... at member '450' for bringing confusion; Why the Hell did you post that ?

i expect he was referring to playing Blu-rays from a PC which would make sense as yes, it would give you black borders and handle the 16:9 properly :)

The U2415 will get a competitor -> Eizo FlexScan EV2455. The design and specs are similar.

Here in Germany the Eizo is already available.

Price for the Dell 339,90 € (Online Shop), Price for the Eizo 504,90 € (Amazon Germany).

I don't know if I order the Eizo, because yesterday I got already the U2415...

I have the Eizo EV2336WFS and it's a nice monitor but I don't think it's worth that kind of premium now that several of the Dell's have flicker-free backlighting and light matte coatings.

I have a question for owners of this display.
1. How uniform luminance? Is there a clearly visible lit? Has it major degree of backlight bleed?
2. How much pronounced glow effect?
3. Is there a noticeable fading, whitish?
4. What is the build quality and materials? Is there a backlash and squeaks?
5. How accurate is the color?
6. Is there a PWM or it have flicker-free backlighting?
I ask this because I've heard negative reviews.

Look at the TFTCentral review as they've covered all that
Thanks, I read it. But I'm interesting feedback from real owners. The different parties, different exemplars, etc. Additionally, the customer experience may seriously differ from the test results.:)

In case you missed it, I bought two of these for a dual monitor setup when they were on sale and posted my impressions earlier in the thread: http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1041179492&postcount=56.

If you have questions that weren't addressed by my post feel free to ask.

Thanks)) Yes, I read it too. I have the owner's feedback from another forum.
Here is approximate translation of his conclusions (but he works on MacBook pro 13'' late 2013, retina):
U2415 is bad display. If you choose among the displays of this category, you can take anything without looking.
Noticeable glare in the lower right corner, smudges, black is missing in principle, it is silver with uneven tints and shades, interspersed with lit, the colors are dull.
There is no such feeling of clean white background like on the MacBook
There are visible spots uneven backlight.
Did not meet expectations, the average office monitor, a handy stand, nice design, high price.
A little better, but overall the same class as the display at the below picture

I ordered 3 of them for a triple monitor setup. I have tried u2412m, u2413, u2414h, z24i and BL2411PT. We'll see how these stack up.

Will you write about the results? I would like a comparison with u2412, z24i and bl2411, cause I consider them as a variants for purchase also. What are they not satisfied you?

I wonder what the chances are of the Eizo being released in the US.

Where did you order from? I am looking at getting 3 for a 3 monitor setup as well but looking for the best price after most of these coupons have expired.
