Windows 10: the top 10 most requested features

But to declare that no one should have the option because you don't personally find value in it - is just pure arrogance.

Maybe you don't understand how software development works, but resources are finite, and if there's a list of 10 features that a poll of the customer base would like to see, then you can expect that only 6 or so might make it into the product. Given that, it's very unfortunate that attention is being diverted away from worthwhile, modern feature requests in favour of making the OS look dated and more visually cluttered.

The theory floated around that Aero was removed in Win8 "to save battery on laptops & tablets" was horseshit, and there's no reason it couldn't have been offered as an option for desktop other than because it didn't fit the Metro "vision".

It's not just the "Metro vision", it's modern digital design principles in general. Effects for the sake of effects is something that generally speaking should be avoided.

Exactly. Like Metro. But since Microsoft likes to impose stupid visual effects upon their customers, most Windows users have voiced that they would take Aero over Metro any day.

At least MSFT this time around is listening to their customers about ditching a screen of blocks and reverting to the traditional Desktop with a factory included start menu within their new Wintendo GUI. It's a breath of relief, really. WinTen is going to be a success.

What's wrong with having options? You can still choose the classic theme that dates back to Windows 98, if I'm not mistaken. Just add Aero to that list of options. Some people lack to have depth and clear definition as to what is being clicked on, in the foreground, etc. Myself: I can't imagine I would ever be as productive now if I were using a flat interface.

Agreed. I actually like plain, white, border-less windows myself. Windows are simply containers for content, and should therefore get out of the way as much as possible, let the content inside those windows provide the colors and effects.

Though with that being said, I'm all for choice, so if some people prefer Aero glass and MS has the ability to add it, why not?

I'd settle for them completing the theme / personalization settings. I noticed that a dark color got applied (auto colors) and I really liked it, so I saved it. But the active title text was still black so you couldn't read it. Decided to check .. No options to change. Changed in registry .. doesn't apply to that one section. Works everywhere else. I'm guessing they have the auto theme coded for each color.

If you switch to high-contrast mode, you get all the options to color things in the GUI. Lol..why isn't that available for the standard theme? Staying in HC-mode makes other UI elements look funky. So I had to stick with the default theme as I don't feel like using uxtheme to hack it.

Let me guess you were one of those "I dont get why people want the Start Menu back" people too. So why would you understand that Aero Glass was popular and people want it back as an option. And the best part about options: You can disable it if you don't like it. But to declare that no one should have the option because you don't personally find value in it - is just pure arrogance.

The only reason Sinofsky ordered Aero Glass removed from Win8 was to try to reduce the jarring dichotomy between the desktop and flat monochrome metro. The theory floated around that Aero was removed in Win8 "to save battery on laptops & tablets" was horseshit, and there's no reason it couldn't have been offered as an option for desktop other than because it didn't fit the Metro "vision".

Fact.
