Bug or they removed this feature?

Dual monitors - Windows 7 you could snap a window on either monitor to the outside and it would take up half a screen, you could then use the Windows Key + arrow direction keys to move that window to another monitor

Windows 10 - i can only snap on the Main monitor and using the Windows + arrow keys it will not move the window to the 2nd monitor..

I'm sure its a bug. Report it.

It seems like something they would've caught in their regression tests, if it's a bug. Might still be, but I'd wait just a bit before reporting it.

Anyone able to get Alien Isolation to play nice with the preview?

I'd be happy with a universal, non-context-sensitive minimize shortcut. It bothers me to no end that Win+Down doesn't actually minimize a snapped window. Instead, snapped windows get treated as something between standard window and a maximized window.

alt+space, n?

Virtual box does not install virtual machine tools on the tech preview...bah limited to 1600x1200 resolution. I wanted to see how DPI scaling looked on a 4K monitor.

im using windows 10 here at work, things I hate, TILES, apps why do I need these apps here for work I even set apps to, "NO" when asked even after uninstalling the apps the icon is still there, i would like to be able to remove them. trying to get to mapped drives i had to add my computer so that I could get those. devices and printers so I could add a printer, SUCKS i had to use that stupid search which I would like to remove from my tool bar.

things i like, it does seem fast on the net, I have the ability to add certs for all my users. being able to left click on start to get my to my used programs and right click to get to control panel, event viewer or device manager is cool

There is a bug in the current Start Menu. It doesn't update properly when installing and uninstalling programs and requires a log out for changes to update. There is no issue with uninstalling modern apps and there is no need to use tiles if not wanted.

I tested this on my Hyper-V 2012 box last night. Integration services installed automatically. Its smooth, I like the start menu and the multiple desktops.

this OS doesn't like my OCed 6234 chip took me days to get the an oc that wouldnt bsod me .
so loaded a game ( alien isolation) which is installed on win8.1 and runs perfectly on that os,the game started to freeze up ,
when I was finally able to alt tab to desktop and look in the task manger and see that the game was using 99% of my 16 gb ram . this os is still more experimental then anything . but it seems just like windows 8.1 with classic shell installed

I think Microsoft has mad it clear that this is a very early build with 90% of the planned features yet to some. The important part here was all about getting the basics of the new desktop UI out and letting people know that for keyboard and mouse operation Windows 10 will in essence the same familiar paradigm that it's been for 20 years. That lack of desktop familiarity was by far Windows 8's biggest problem.

It's been noted that the 10 TP has references to Windows 8.1 Update 2. I think the original intention early on was to bring the new Start Menu and windowed modern apps as an 8.1 update. But given 8's bad rep the decision was made to go with a new version altogether and since we're at the normal 3 year point for a new release anyway, it doesn't seem like it makes a lot of since to keep updating 8.

thank you for this, though the tiles I have removed so I now have this blue blank spot, it would be nice to have like control panel or device and printers there, like the old way, sorry but it just made things easier that way.

I have a weird issue that happens after a few hours of use. The whole OS eventually slows to a crawl. Windows wont update, buttons get pressed and stay that way. I can do a restart but booting back up takes forever once I've started seeing the symtoms. If I reboot when the OS is acting normal reboots take less than a minute. My backup install of 8.1 works fine. Sounds like a possible driver issue. I do however like all the changes so far.

you check the event viewer to see what errors are displayed? left button click on mouse scroll up to event viewer and select.

I like it so far, running on Fusion 6 on my 15" MBP. No issues at all to report. Definitely a step up from windows 8!

you do realize this win 10 is really just win 8.1 build 9841 right? Its not really a new os at all but in reality probably what win8.2 was rumored to do to begin with

Every version of Windows starts off from the latest production version of either the client or server. In this case Windows 10 client started off from Windows 8.1 Update, this is nothing new. The Windows 10 TP is a pretty early build with what Microsoft says isn't even 10% of what will be in the RTM.

just thought it a bit funny they put back the start menu and all of a sudden its win10 instead of win8 lol

Downloading it to try on my shitty laptop. Hopefully its an improvement.

Everything seems to be a lot smoother and responsive on my laptop than 7 ever was...which is weird because every other pc I run 7 on is butter. It's a shitty laptop, though, and maybe that has something to do with it.

OEM,

Don't get me wrong i'm not meaning to insult you when i say this, just clarification and a bit of a "heads-up' to those that always post the same comparison. but I always struggle to believe comments like yours when you don't state exactly what you did. If i compare my current Operating System installation (6 months/12 months/2 years since first installed) with one i'll download in an hours time and install fresh... of course it'll be quicker. Are you meaning comparing side by side on both clean installations? If not... o_O

The Windows 7 install wasn't as smooth as this from install. This laptop sucks something fierce, and I may have missed a setting that was causing it, but even initally this is much smoother.

We'll see how smooth it runs after a couple of months.

It surprised me, too, that 7 wasn't as smooth since 7 is one badass OS. I'm rocking it on all my other computers and have never had a single issue. I have a 4 year install on my gaming rig of 7 and its still buttery smooth.

I installed it as a VBox VM but current Guest Additions don't support Win10 -- yet.

Next I tried to run it off a USB flash drive, using WinToUSB. No luck, it hangs at the boot screen, though many others have succeeded.

Phew, at least I got Win 10 out of my system. :D Hey Nutella, make it free, and make it install on flash drives so I can make a copy for all my friends!

Mine installs fine from a usb flash drive. Perhaps you should have tried Rufus USB Drive Maker. What I have noticed depending on what you are upgrading from or what type of upgrade you do clean/keep files. Things to go different for each user after that. Some aps works for one person while it doesn't launch, can't install or crashes for them.

I didn't mean install it from a flash drive, but run it from USB flash, just like Linux does.

I completely goofed on that read. Missed the "wintousb" part for some reason. Maybe they will fix it a little later. I know windows 8 and 8.1 does it. Guess we will have to wait and hope they fix it.

How do I get .Net 3.5 installed? Trying to install ESXI Vsphere client. Keeps failing when I try to install the feature from application wizard.

It might be in the Turn Windows features on and off section of the control panel.

Anyone have an issue with vmware workstation 10 and VMs not bridging to the local network and host only being the only option to get VM's to get internet?

Latest thing is Diablo III won't start for me even in compatibility mode. Doing a re-install of D3 see if that does anything.

I'm really digging the new start menu.

Found another way to always crash explorer.exe, right click a file, then properties, then click on previous versions tab. Will crash explorer.exe every time for me

just tried that but didn't crash explorer for me :) tried it on a new file and one i adjust every day.

So has MS thrown out the icons that give dimension completely? I hate the flat look, looks very bland. I am assuming you can just change the icons? I know, it is not a technical issue but I like the way W7 looks.
Has anyone tried running running something like Ojectdock from Stardock with this?

No, most of the old icons are still around. They've really just started trying to bridge the visual gap between Classic and Modern. They'll all be replaced with the Metro variants at some point.

I do know that an Aero Glass add-on (brings back Aero Glass in Windows 8) crashes every time on startup. Had to completely uninstall it.

I don't care much about the flat look. I guess it may be that I'm used to it. I don't mind it, but I don't like it much, either. It's just one of those things that I accept as normal, but not as something I really like.

Impressions so far with new 9860 build:
NVidia Control Panel will not open. I tried to open it because it appears SLI is disabled but I can't double check because the Nvidia Control Panel will not open.

IE: When you navigate pages it flashes white for a split second.

Overall the last preview version was better.
