A Picture I Took 2014 - Contains NSFW Images

Fucking A.... why did I stop by this thread. I have two exams this week I need to study for and now I can't stop viewing these amazing photos... lol

Wow! So many months of awesome photos to go through!

I quit visiting this thread so much since the NSFW tag was officially applied. Actually don't think I've posted anything in here this entire year! It's been a busy year, and my photography has taken a bit of a back seat, but I'm trying to get back into it in the last month or so.

I'm looking at upgrading some gear soon. Think I'm going to trade in my Nikkor 24mm/2.8 and my 10.5mm/2.8 fisheye for the new 20mm/1.8. And I am planning to finally upgrade to full-frame early next year.

I've got a few months now to decide between the D610 or the new D750.

Most of what I've been doing recently is food photos. Here's a few from my shoots on making Hotwings and making Hatch Green Chili! :D

Yes! I hope the clouds disappear in time for me to photograph it....

Here's an eclipse from earlier this year.

It was a perfect sunrise for me, a perfect blue hour and a deep red moon. The lighting conditions were perfect, it couldn't get any better. The angle was perfect too.

But of course the camera's battery was dead.

All three of them.

Oh shit.:(

I didn't plan very well. Went with my standard water tower composition. I'm thinking of brightening up the water tower. Not sure.

Fought with my 70-300 AFS the entire time. The lens has a infinity focus creep problem where it quickly loses focus when on the tripod and tilted back. I wanted to set it once when the moon was bright and be good for the rest of the night, but that plan flew out the window. My D800 of course has a poor live view implementation and only reads 1080P off the sensor, so focusing is made difficult for super dark skies. Used ISO 3200 and 1/4 second for the moon, so it was dark, dark, very dark.

...SNIP....

Should we leave the NSFW off next years picture thread and have a rule about no scantily clad women or men:p? There could be a 2nd dedicated NSFW thread. My intention wasn't to stop people from participating and viewing the pictures.

Here are two photos I took September 1st on one of the five islands off the Netherlands north shore. The specific island was Terschelling. This was a dinner boat that dry beached for low tide which happened to line up with sunset that day. I got lucky.

I normally do not take selfies.. but since people love microcenter.. there is a new one in houston that opens today literally a 5 min walk from my house.... This is after they hung up the sign, so I know I am the first one in Houston that got this picture :)

I'm not sure the NSFW tag has stopped people from posting all that much. I think the biggest thing for me is my work pales in comparison to most of what is being posted here so sometimes it makes me not want to post. I'm guessing other people might feel the same way but I could be wrong. It doesnt matter to me though I will follow this thread either way.

Post up a photo now and then. We are friendly people around here.

Here is a photo taken in Grand Marais, MN. Unfortunately the air wasn't as clear as I hoped, but I still got a decent image. After this night I had to move on because the clouds were forecast to be heavy for the next week. Wish I could have had a few more nights with the Milky Way, but it wasn't going to happen.

Congrats on MC. Love this place!

And dude... I thought you were about 20 years old, lol :p

What stopped me from posting is... well, the lack of pictures. Most of what I do now, I can't post anyway, and I have no time for casual photography anymore. :(

I have that problem as well I just haven't been able to make much time for photography this year. Oh the problems of having too many hobbies and not enough hours in the day to be able to do them all. :(

I have some crappy pictures to post.

Went for a walk last night and didn't have my camera so I had to make do with my phone. I'm pretty impressed with the camera on my Galaxy S5. I wish I would have waited another 10 minutes or so thought because the sky got all red and purple as the sun got lower in the sky.

Did you try the HDR mode? I have a Galaxy S4. Depending on your composition the HDR mode may have been able to expose that foreground and keep the sky looking great. Sometimes it works great, others not so much. Have to stay still. I have my HDR mode set to save 2 pictures, the auto one and the hdr one so I can pick later. Most landscapes shot I take with my DSLR I also take a photo with my GS4, so that I have GPS information. Most of the GS4 shots can look very nice with a little processing.

Daggah, great waterfall shots. Unique location for a town.

I took pictures for another wedding this last weekend. 4th time now. Each time my regard for the professionals who shoot multiple weddings a week goes up and up. If I ever get married I'm finding a professional wedding photographer who posts a blog album of each of their events, I'll know what to expect, and will graciously pay them their well deserved bill.

Solar eclipse this Thursday! Don't burn your retinas. Even a quick look through the viewfinder at 300mm with a 10stop filter will have you feeling funny for a few days (trust me). I didn't get any solar film ordered, so I'm going to try landscape photos and get a few pictures of the cool crescents on buildings and the ground.

Keeping with the waterfall theme, here are four waterfalls I visited on my five day MN car tour at the end of September.

The Cascades at Cascade River State Park, MN:

Kakabeka Falls in Ontario:

Little Falls at Kakabeka Provincial Park in Ontario. The short hike here is worth it. There are a bunch of other small water falls on the stream below this larger "Little Falls". Be careful of your footings on the steep path getting to and from here.:

I have only had my S5 for a few weeks so I totally forgot all about the HDR mode until i went to process the image later. However in this case I like the silhouetted look that I ended up with. Plus the foreground in that location is pretty busy and probably would have taken the focus away from the sky.
