Directron currently has the Asus X99 Deluxe for $379. Price comes down to $341 with the 10% off coupon "WASC10"

Coupon also applies to select other Asus products

No tax except in Texas I believe.

Enjoy :)

Damn good deal , decent board , I bought it on release day for 400 plus tax.

It's a little more than 'just' newegg reviews.

Are you referring to one of the reviewers that had issues or what?

Just one board going up in smoke doesn't mean much. I haven't had any issues with mine.

Meh, if I'm going to spend this much on a X99 board I rather do it right and get the ROG version.

There were actually a couple of boards, of course anyone knows that one board is an exception, but when it crosses three, then we have a problem.

PLUS, the OC socket doesn't really match the description for providing that extra juice like its supposed to..... Do you guys even read anything these days? lol....

This.

This.

The other one was an MSI board. I don't know of any more incidents.

There are two boards I'm aware of. An ASUS from Legit Reviews, and a MSI from Phoroix. So unless you are claiming that somehow ASUS is causing other people's boards to do the same thing, you have a problem with your logic. It seems for some reason there have been some failures on this platform. Not ASUS related, given they have happened to MSI. On monday supposedly Legit reviews will have more info.

I dunno, sounds like you don't read anything, or rather you read what matches your preconcieved notions.

I wouldn't buy an ASUS over someone else because of the socket, but I wouldn't give them a miss because of it either.

There were a couple of others too, may be from a few reviews that I read. I'm not claiming anything, but the fact that it's been a month and they haven't still come to a conclusion really doesn't help anything or anyone.

It's like asking yourself for popping in a $1K CPU in this board, and taking a risk of it blowing up at any specific instant. In the end, it's all about taking that risk.

This x99 stuff is WAY too pricey. Ridiculous.

I guess i'll be waiting longer.

I can't believe nobody mentioned that the R4BE could be had for $383 with the 10% off coupon. At that price it's simply a steal, many used ones go for more than that!

Then your argument is to not buy an X99 setup at all, which is fine, but that isn't what you started with. You are up on this specific board and the OC socket and now you've moved the goal posts.

I'm fine if the argument is "There may be problems with the X99 platform, you should wait." However trying to claim this board is particularly problematic is fallacious. There is no evidence of that, and plenty to the contrary as meany people, HardOCP and myself included, have one and have no issues.

But isn't that a x79 board?

Why would you buy an outdated chipset from 2011? Even with any issues the X99 might have it's still much more feature-rich and up to date without needing all the extra chips to mimic what the X99 has built-in.

Because for me a lot of "features" of X99 are either useless (m.2, SATA Express) or I can live without (>2 native SATA3 ports, native USB 3.0 support). Not to mention the price premium on the boards and DDR4 make them an even less attractive proposition.

Anyway I was just pointing out the best X79 board could be had for an amazing price, and could be of interest to people still wanting to build an X79 rig.
